Amazing Grace Lyrics:
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
Gurrumul and Paul Kelly with their cover of 'Amazing Grace'.
About Gurrumul:
Born blind, the Indigenous Australian singer/songwriter Gurrumul grew up as a member of the Gumatj clan on Elcho Island, off the coast of tropical North East Arnhem land in Australia’s Northern Territory. Gurrumul’s songs speak of identity, spirit, connection with the land, the elements and the ancestral beings to whom he is related. His fragile but uniquely emotive high tenor voice and aura-like persona elicit feelings of peace and longing in listeners.
Gurrumul first came to the world’s attention when his self-titled debut album Gurrumul was released to international acclaim in 2008. His angelic voice connected with fans the world over, including such notable names as Elton John, will.I.am, Sting, Gary Barlow, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder. Half a million copies of Gurrumul have been sold worldwide.
Tonight on a fight from NYC to LA while flicking though the movie options I stumbled upon the documentary about Gurrumul that was released after his passing. It is a beautiful and moving account of his life and his profound contribution to Australian culture. There’s so much to learn from the way he approached life and the deep respect he had for his indigenous ancestry. It goes without saying that he was a musical genius with one of those rare voices that touched hearts in an instant!
Been teaching the mob up here in the Territory for 5 years now, they are indeed a deep spiritual people. Never seen that depth of spirituality anywhere else in Australia. Always was...
Always will be.
Aboriginal land !!!!!!!
The Southern hemisphere
This whole continent would be a safer place if we were under the governance of Indigenous owners as their custodianship lasted 65,000+ years as opposed to the current lot and the contamination of our food chain and water resources in the 236 years since.
His last page has closed and he is with his mother and father. I've never been more moved by any other artist. I love how this beautiful man makes me feel. RIP.
You put that beautifully❤
What a gift you were to Australia and the world. Goosebump city!!
And a gift as an Aboriginal, he is amaizing, blind but a gift♥️
'What a gift you are ...'Always ...
Love Paul Kelly, but gurramul , with the angelic voice, brings me to tears.
Thanks so much Gurrumul and Paul. I'm so pleased I found this song today (or maybe it found me). When cultures find ways to celebrate each other the beauty is so clear! RIP.
Just beautiful , RIP
I had the incredible opportunity to hear Gurrumul sing live. I’m not religious but some version of God was in the room, tears flowed from who knew where. Incredible gift gone too soon.

R.I.P angel voice
WOW Gurrumul a friend just mentioned you and OMg LOVE LOVE LOVE gonna introduce my 12 year old blind niece who is very musically inclined
I look at this song of revelation and epiphany as a symbol of when I emancipated myself from the superstition of religion and saw the light of shared humanity as a spiritual anchor. It was written by a ship's captain who transported slaves from Africa to British colonies in North America.
But whatever works for people is good. Beautiful song, beautifully sung.
The captain had repented. That's how he felt so deeply that amazing grace
Yes, I know the story. Doesn't change how I feel about slavery, god or christians.@@monblkcat5990

Reminding me once again that Beauty ought to have a capital B for it comes from somewhere wonderfully good, wonderfully deep, I am profoundly moved . . .
Fuck....speechless
I always disliked this song but appreciate this rendition because of the two genuinely different, interesting voices. Well done.
2 true australians
Gurrumul's singing is so damned beautiful. It gives me chills. I love PK, but his voice just doesn't work with this song, and it sounds so harsh next to Gurrumul's.
I'm just glad that PK with his voice brought out the best sound in Gurumu's Singing - i spent a lit bit of time with his family n I'm sure i met PK as well. This song is about reaching out to Thursday island mob & Nth Qld mob whose great great kidnapped grandparents worked on the sugarcane plantations (Simon Reeves 6Pt mini series Tropic of Capricorn" by BBC UK production does give small history. Believe the Slave Trader REPENTED when The Light Of JESUS Truly flashed into that dark spot in his SOUL n helped that Soul Trader turn his life Around
Was it William Wilberforce that pushed for the abolition of Slavery from Africa ? The Song Amazing Grace was written from A REPENTANT ❤️😪 / thru many Dangers Toils & Snares & life journey is full of them : My Dad & Aunt Clara Eustace both knew that Aboriginals needed their identity to be recognized before they could be classified as Australian ppl : they both wrote letters to 341 Darlinghurst Rd NSW : Bob Hawke Destroyd all those aspirations coz he borrowed all those SDR (Special Drawing.Rights) from IMF on the Condition that the Souvrenity (includes Native Title) of Australia was to be surrendered to the IMF ownership My dad was kicked out of home n business by CFR policy bosses Jimmy Carter Bob Hawke & Michael Somare (dad was born in Redfern near Beverly or Evelin St- the Block) Anglicans teach me some History. Bob Hawke pushed my dad to sleep on a Pk Bench & I'm sure he was not the only WW2 Vet that was treated like a piece of $hit. So Gurrumul song is timeless (Ian Clayton "Speed Of Light" good message. Dr Carolyn Leaf : How to Rewire your Brain ( she is a world renoun Brain surgeon) uTube
God bless Australia the land of my ancestors 😭❤️❤️❤️
