Please, get another job. I like watching your videos because it's your daily life, but it'd be much better to see your daily life without that pain, knowing you're okay. It must be harder to quit, I send you strength and love.
Salaryman is unfortunately the best someone can get, especially he lives in Tokyo. The rent prices are fucked up and some people even live in manga cafés. I highly suggest Atarashii Gakko! Songs "Tokyo Calling" it explains exactly the problems Japan is dealing with. They are hardstuck at one job, some even have two, struggling birthrates, Hikikomoris, less time for themselves to actually enjoy life. It's a protest song so to speak.
It’s been spoken that it’s extremely difficult to leave a job in Japan. They basically shame you, and you basically have to openly shame yourself and write apology letters + present them to your employer and coworkers.
Speaking from experience of clocking in 90 hours weeks for long periods of time: listen to your heart (beat), literally. You mention it several times in this video. Over time, that accelerated pulse that comes with little sleep, further accentuated by caffeine, is not sustainable. Again, I can relate after after having put myself through brutal hours over years, that, although it can definitely seem that one can is able to push through day after day, year after year, of very little sleep, a lot of caffeine and massive work-related stress (and recuperate during the weekend), getting through the weeks fueled by adrenaline (one of the reasons for the elevated heart beat) is going to catch up to you one day. At that point, your body will really try to force to you to listen to it and try to convince to you that, no, life does not "go on" regardless of what you expose it to. Saying this from a perspective of understanding, relatability and compassion. Don't neglect your heart, my friend.
This is too fucked up. You're not a shitty person, your boss is just manipulating you by making you feel that way. Damn I'd rather just become an ordained monk and live in a temple, or be homeless! No way I'd let a workplace treat me like that for very long!
Nah. In America, I told FedEx I wasn’t staying another two hrs after pulling a 10hr shift my 3rd official day. I literally told the manager there is no way me and the other new girl were staying from 5pm - 5am even though they didn’t have enough package handlers to load millions of fucking chewy and blue apron packages. We were encouraged to bring lots of snacks, water, and whatever we needed to feel comfortable and safe. I’ve walked out and stood up for myself at so many jobs since the past 11 years. Your mental and physical health, AND time are much more important than any job in the world.
You are not a shitty person. The stress and lack of sleep is already messing with your heart and will kill you someday. Do what you need to do to take care of your physical and mental health. Get ahold of one of those companies that offers to quit jobs to do that for you if you can afford it and would rather not do it yourself. If you want to be a good husband and dad someday, change your life for the better so you can remain the kind person your future wife will fall in love with and your kids will look up to, so you can set an example for your kids to not allow themselves to be treated like shit at work and so you can live long enough to meet your grandkids. You're a strong, gentle soul. Don't let anyone take thst away from you. ❤
When I first started working, I was so terrified about making mistakes and being humiliated by bosses or looking stupid in front of coworkers. I've had a few bosses who made me feel like crap even though I tried my best to do well. It was terrible. I feel you. Things got better when I stopped giving a fk-no matter how much I did, they always felt it wasn't enough anyway, so why even try? At that point I was too tired to worry about being fired; it was always a possibility even when I was overworking myself. They couldn't do anything about me and I ended up transferring to a different department that suits my skills way better. I still don't enjoy working; I don't think anyone does, tbh. But I'm doing better now. I sincerely hope things turn around for you. And they will, even if it doesn't seem that way right now.
Omfg despite being somewhat of a night-owl that also have jobs everyday, I still can't imagine the pain of 2 to 3 hours of sleep on average while having to withstand extreme stress from workplace and social. I also get pretty depressed from works and stuff but never have I leave my office after 10 pm and get scolded after home 😩
RUclips recommended your video, I just want to let you know I recently quit at the company that I’ve worked for 16years. I’ve always given my best all this time but recently they hired a new manager and guess what, she started to treat me EXACTLY how you were treated. Me and my other colleague quit after 3 months she joined. It’s not worth it my friend, quit and find other oppurtunity even if it’s working at a combini store. Ppl like your boss only make ppl miserable, all they care about is money.
Your boss is a dick. You're a very loyal, hard worker. Unfortunately, a lot of Japanese bosses don't see that their employees are doing everything they can and some. Most off them probably have been in your shoes, but "forgot" how bad they felt. Keep your head high, and know you are a fantastic person 😊
There is more to life than this. I don’t know you personally, but if this isn’t what you want to become then start taking steps now, be who you want to become. Move somewhere else, do something different, you’re not a bad person
Man, that part about coming home to a family in such a state is sad The country is grappling with a declining population but continues to proceed with that kind of work culture in too many places I’d say “hope things get better”, but I bet those in power won’t make a real push until things are already exploding around them and it’s far, far too late
Honestly, as much as I love the brilliant works of art Japan creates whether that be games, food, anime, architecutre, I could not stand to be Japanese, and am thankful to be European. It's no wonder Japan has a declining population. What motivation and time do people have to actually meet a significant other. An office worker here will spend a 40 hour week, get a 5 week paid holiday which some companies will practically force you to take. You will work maybe a few hours extra a week. If you go higher up into management you probably expect 1-2 hours over that 9-5 every day and flexibility to do extra adhoc hours. I was working in kitchens a couple of years before Covid, was a head chef temporarily and then second chef basically. The extra hours I worked there - especially during Christmas/Easter combined with my weight made my blood pressure spike and give me palpitations. I knew I had to get out of there, so I went to University. I'm not in the job I want yet, but I'm in a much better position (even if I'm earning less money than before).
Come to Australia - preferably Sydney. Our work laws protect you from being treated this way. Yes, you'll get shitty people everywhere, but harassment and working those stupidly long hours is illegal.
It's not easy, especially if you come from a non-white country. Australians prefer Europeans or the USA. I can name 5 people I know who are talented and completed multiple exams to get into australia but rejected from every job possible for having an asian visa while the lads from UK can basically walk into australia. Saying this is easy.
Don’t give up! There’s always something better waiting for you out there. Life will throw rocks at us until we stumbled on the right path. Will follow your journey through this channel and will drink to your success! (:
In my country, some people keep saying Japan is an example to follow, it's a perfect country with perfect discipline and everyone which talks bad are called "lazy ones" which don't want to work and want to live on government's welfare (and some even keep saying labor rights "ruin the economy and the business liberty"). Not every Japanese company are like that, but it's really concerning how many are like that. You are just a number, a gear, which can be easily replaced. The profit above human's life.
the price of collectivism. japan is what it is today thanks to people working like you do. individual don't matter. society does. that's the ideology most foreigners can't wrap their head around. and poor will always suffer wherever they go.
Your observation about Japan’s societal ethos raises important questions, but I’d argue that conflating its work culture with "collectivism" risks masking deeper systemic issues. True collectivism should prioritize the equitable well-being of all members, not just the relentless sacrifice of individuals for abstract societal progress. What you’re describing-exploitation disguised as communal duty-aligns more with Marxist critiques of alienated labor, where workers are disconnected from the value they create and reduced to cogs in a machine. The poor suffer not because collectivism inherently fails, but because power structures (in capitalist system) always prioritize profit or productivity over human dignity. The challenge isn’t about foreigners misunderstanding ideology; it’s about recognizing when systems weaponize unity to justify inequality. A society that truly values collectivism would ensure shared rewards, not just shared toil. The USSR is an example of the right approach to collectivism.
I'm rooting for you Salaryman. I hope your goal comes true and you can leave that godforsaken place. At the rate you're going I'm so scared you're gonna get heart palpitations.
I don't have any right to judge your work-life nor I can say any good stuff to make you feel at peace but the way you are fighting day after day in this so called reality is highly respectable.
We're all rooting for you salaryman, I hope RUclips eventually gives you enough money so you can finally quit this job and go look for one that treats you better!
Such people are toxic, you need to get away the sooner the better. Save some money, start looking for work online maybe, a translator/tutor for example. salaryman, you’re definitely not a bad person!! i think quitting your job would be the best solution, really. maybe there would be a way to search for a new workplace during days off or breaks? if anything, i think it would help you stay with money, because you’ll literally switch jobs. if it’s possible, please, consider. maybe you’ll leave to another town, that is quieter than Tokyo? all of us are worrying about you. please, take care of yourself. i hope things will get better.
You cannot accept this, this was unacceptable from the very first moment, if tou can leave your job or push back do not hesitate and do it as soon as possible. You deserve peace and a good sleep schedule whatever your boss think.
Man you need to quit, whatever it takes. Take some time off and apply to a Nordic country, I'm 100% sure that would solve your life problems. We work 8 hours a day and value our physical health over capital gain. Ofc there will be corporate bs here but not like in Japan. You've worked so hard that you'd get a job from Europe with no problem.

I do hope you can quit your job and find a way to support yourself that makes you happy. I’ve heard many things about Japanese companies and the nonexistent work life balance. And I hope you’re able to find a place that values you as a person as well as your hard work.
What your boss is doing is literally mental abuse “You think I’m stupid?” Hope you get out of this situation, I don’t know where you are from but maybe returning to your home country is a solution. Hope you have family or parents you could stay with for a while. This is not a healthy life. Gambate! Wishing you the best
revolt! join a union! mistreatment by your boss is unacceptable in Brazil. its a lawsuit waiting to happen, and that's because of the work of unions in the past century! only workers unity can ensure them enough power to actually make this treatment and overworking stop
Wish you could leave the company snd find an easier job but understand from your videos that is hard. You seem like a good person. Your boss on the other hand… If you can, listen to your body for your own health.
well you look at japan and your dump wherever it is. i'm sure japan looks much better. that's the ideology. you don't matter. society does. and everything comes with a price.
@@asddsa9468 high suicide rates, huge number of hikikkomori, extremely low birth rates, salaries going down and cost of living increasing, it's going so well! Copenahagen, Helsinki, Warsaw, Bern, Zurich... You are simply clueless.
saying fake is definitely wrong, but this video alone is a little bit exaggerated tho but pretty much that’s life of a salary man working for a black company.
Man, watching this just makes me feel exhausted for you. I think you should get another job that doesn't take a toll on you physically and mentally. I recommend you, a channel of a Japanese RUclipsr called "Samurai's daily life". He doesn't work in a black company and still be able to make and upload videos about his daily life. His channel wasn't created that long ago, probably only around last year and he's gaining a lot of views and subscribers so i think you can also do the same as him since your and his video contents are similar.
Bro you are not a shitty person. This system is shitty. Your boss is shitty. This should be illegal. You are not even getting enough sleep. A human body is not built for this. This is so wrong it makes me so damn angry
You must feel so overwhelmed and exhausted I can’t imagine. Is it legal? How is this possible to work until 12am? I am complaining at work even if I stay 5 more minutes after my shift and I work 37 hours 😢 Please just quit and get a new job maybe in a smaller town…your lifestyle is worrying…
Life may be shitty, but you sir, are not a shitty person.
He might be a shitty person. There's really no indication good or bad.
Please, get another job. I like watching your videos because it's your daily life, but it'd be much better to see your daily life without that pain, knowing you're okay.

revolt! join a union! mistreatment by your boss is unacceptable in Brazil. its a lawsuit waiting to happen, and that's because of the work of unions in the past century! only workers unity can ensure them enough power to actually make this treatment and overworking stop
I want more salary-man!
This is a terrible existence 😢
Wish you could leave the company snd find an easier job but understand from your videos that is hard. You seem like a good person. Your boss on the other hand…
If you can, listen to your body for your own health.
I feel sad for you my boii 😢
This seems like a parody. Is it for real?
This one in particular doesn’t seem genuine
people should work 9-5 , overtime must be paid, thats reality, japan is not living in reality ...
well you look at japan and your dump wherever it is. i'm sure japan looks much better. that's the ideology. you don't matter. society does. and everything comes with a price.
@@asddsa9468 high suicide rates, huge number of hikikkomori, extremely low birth rates, salaries going down and cost of living increasing, it's going so well! Oh but the streets looks clean, wow truly incredible then! Any "dump" in central europe offer better living standard and conditions, sorry to break it to you. Copenahagen, Helsinki, Warsaw, Bern, Zurich... You are simply clueless.
This isn't even living man.
You dont need to work on Japanese companies to live in Japan. Just find some remote work from US companies.
Nice to see you
Dance in front of your boss and tell him some jokes. It might help.
'Japanese Wojak' XD...
Maybe this video will let people stop fetishizing Japan
I don't believe in Gods, but sir, God bless you
good sir it would be better to make money of video blogging daily life in japan, leave that shitty job
I agree. Hopefully he can develop a bigger following!
This really looks like a call for help, please get a better job somehow. You are not defined by what your boss said about you.
I really hope this is fake/exaggerated because if not this is absurdly depressing
It’s almost certainly dramatized.
saying fake is definitely wrong, but this video alone is a little bit exaggerated tho but pretty much that’s life of a salary man working for a black company.
You say no wife or kids right now so you can enjoy life. How the hell is working long hours with a shitty boss enjoying life?
God, no offense, but I thought my dinner was shit.
Is there no alternative? Another job? Wish you all the best. Cheers from Croatia.
Japan. A nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there.
Hope you get a better job soon.
You are not a shitty person, the one who is a shitty person is your boss for not treating you with respect.
Why work there for 10 years if its such a pain. Just move?
Go to Okinawa
take care of yourself brother
Bro you are not a shitty person. This system is shitty. Your boss is shitty. This should be illegal. You are not even getting enough sleep. A human body is not built for this. This is so wrong it makes me so damn angry
Your boss sucks. Hate that he treats you like dirt.
How old are you
I hope it's not real, please tell me that it's just a short film, a social commentary....
pretty much real.
