Actually, old glass is wavy to begin with. I only know of one company in the country that still makes it the old way. I don't understand why the park people don't keep the grave fencing in better condition. Back when I was a reporter covering the fire department I became familiar with fires started by construction crews not storing things properly. They didn't put the oily rags in a waterfilled, airtight can, put it under the house until morning and the family woke up to a completely involved house fire. They only wanted their house painted and lost everything, including their cats. Great video. Thanks for doing all the walking for me.

You can find a picture of the Bond brothers with their dog and with Jack London when he was employed by them.

I read White Fang in 8th grade but wasn't old enough to appreciate it. I'll have to pick it up again. Both he and his wife led very interesting lives. Imagine accomplishing all those things while enduring a painful skin disease. It's a shame that his house burnt down. It must have been amazing. I love that their ashes are underneath a rock in its natural state rather than a carved headstone. All the graves are very rustic and humble. I never appreciated how far reaching the effects of the 1906 earthquake were. Thank you for the tour. 🙂💕
Absolutely Fantastic! When I was a kid, I was dyslexic. For me to read and enjoy a book, it had to be something special. Jack London’s The Call Of The Wild was just that book for me. It was the first “real book” that I ever finished and holds a special place in my heart. I always enjoy your videos but this one in particular, meant something more to me. I met And knew one of Jack London's daughters Becky. We wrote correspondence for a long while. Of all the letters I have, there is many from Charmian Jack's beautiful wife, and quite a few items Jack signed during his short life as well. I have collected over the years. I research their lives and am a true admirer of the both of them.The Beauty Ranch is so "beautiful"around it one hears the complete stillness of quietness. The trees and bramble giving off a piny narrated smell that is pleasant to the nose. and one feels transported back in time when the Londons lived and breathed the very same air heard the calls of various birds and quiet stillness and much more. 2 true lives as one seeking action and full adventure throughout their calling in both their lives, calling each other "Mate" I love it so and want to go back again as I have been in the past. This is a very great documentary. You feel like you are there through the hikes and the hosts explaining it's rich history on the dusty trails.

It's amazing how much we know about him. A very open book so to speak. And my grandparents never told the story of their lives during World War 2! I want to obtain a copy of his book 'The Iron Heel' as it's considered the first in modern dystopian literature and inspired George Orwell.

Great job I had been to the ranch twice once in the 1960s and once in the late 70s I dont remember the cottage. I like the way you give a real historical perspective. Thanks
I was just there yesterday! Where was the cottage and stables? I missed those. I didn't know the museum was open either. By the time we made it back from the house, the park was almost closed so we walked around it. I'll have to go back soon to see everything else I missed. We didn't get there until 2:00 and it definitely wasn't enough time. I only live an hour away. Also, there's a better path that's paved with asphalt to the Wolf house and graves. It's an easier walk. You might've found it on the way back but it was on the right hand side after you enter the parking lot. I thought that closed up room under the stairs was a wine cellar.
Oh, but the width and breadth of this man's soul, staggers my very own soul! I'll probably return to this Jack London Page of yours, time, and time again, but I commence for now to tell you, that "Martin Eden" is my all-time favorite work of his. Though the events of Martin's, and Martin's creator's lives were radically different, Jack completely immersed himself into the body of his creation, primally so. When the world-at-large mounted it's wrong response to Martin's towering and, quite not-anticipated success, poor Martin's being was plunged into a depression so black, so black, that it might as well have been the barrenness of the Moon--no soft and dreamy romance--of a "Valley of The Moon". And Martin worked as hard as he could to complete his suicide, as hard as he did, to strive for his success. Oh, one other thing . . . from one of your other vids . . . could Sir Francis Drake have been here earlier than Cabrillo? I can't find my definitive California histories at hand to confirm or deny.

I love Call of the Wild. w\What a great video and excellent narration. I was born and lived in Sydney Australia. There are several historic sites here to commemorate his stay here. A great pity he was so ill while here. He would have enjoyed adventures in the Outback and on our Coasts and rainforests. He did write some observations of his visits and notes in his memoirs. A loss to modern literature that he died so young.

Having not heard of Jack London here in Australia, I was amazed as to what he packed into his short life. The remains of Wolf House looked amazing as the exterior hadn’t used machined rocks to make it look smooth. The style is very similar to what was built out here for cattle and sheep barons. Due to Corona things have gotten a bit screwy and the months have flown, but this morning I joined your “live” broadcast and now been shipped back to July. I can see the humour in that lol. The interior of Jack London's boat the snark was purchased by my friend big Bill Kennedy on the big island of Hawaii in the 1980s he built the snarks interior into two of the bedrooms in his redwood house in Pahoa. I actually got to sleep in one of The snarks bunks. Unfortunately about 10 years ago the house burned down.

Jack and Charmaine were certainly well matched for each other. I loved the house that Jack’s widow built 3 yrs. after his death. What a sad but great story of their adventures together! Excellent, research, Jeff! The background music is perfect for the times in which they lived. I’ve saved this video to enjoy again. Sarah’s comments about Charmaine are great! I think that Sarah possesses those same spirited qualities. What a shame that the Wolf House was gutted by fire. Thank you for making that rocky path to Wolf House and the Londons’s grave. great episode...if you're in the area when it's cooler, a hike up to his 'lake' should be in order...i usually stop by the glen ellen market for lunch, btw...also, just up the road, the old bale mill is an interesting stop, and robert louis stevenson history nearby...of course, detours to the petrified forest and california's old faithful are very touristy places...lotsa historic wineries...calistoga and angwin too...i'm not sure if the sonoma developmental center and napa state hospitals are still open or if they've been closed due to state budget actions, but they're a sad but necessary part of california history...i guess i sound like a chamber of commerce junkie...anyway, keep on truckin'...

The house was built by Italian immigrants and stone workers. My paternal grandfather , Guiseppe Moroni, and his 3 brothers from Tuscany worked there. Our grandfather passed down a packet of photos to us. They include photos of the brothers up on the Wolf House walls and pig barn silos, the main house, Jack, Charmaine, their horses and dogs. Great info and video!
Great tour of London ranch and ruin. I visited there in 2016. My brother and sister were with me and my brother suffered an episode of vertigo while on that trail yo the ruin. I had forgotten how young he was when he died.

As a late arrival here to your channel, History Hunters I had no idea that you'd already done an episode on Jack London.. Duh I didn't get that memo... lol I thoroughly enjoyed this look at Jack's house / Wolf home as I hadn't seen them since 1983 or 84 when my Mither had suggested we play hooky from her work and my school and take a drive up to Glen Ellen for the day and check it out. I was 17 that year and right in the middle of reading both 'White Fang' and 'Call of the Wild' as they were suggested by me Mither as she was a voracious reader and I take after her a bit more than I ever cared to admit. Thank You Mom. I've read em all Steinbeck, London, Joyce, Yeats, Hemingway, King, Connolly, Twain (me Mither was born & raised in Hannibal,MO) and L'Amour.. etc. Maybe you could do an episode on Louis L'Amour sometime. To me he ranks right up there with the Greatest of Storytellers.

I'm watching this from the dreary grey boredom of England in Covid lockdown in February. Thanks for the reminder that there is a great big beautiful world full of amazing places and experiences out there when it becomes possible to see them again, because life here at the moment is no fun at all.

I was just there yesterday! Where was the cottage and stables? I missed those.
I didn't know the museum was open either. By the time we made it back from the house, the park was almost closed so we walked around it. I'll have to go back soon to see everything else I missed. We didn't get there until 2:00 and it definitely wasn't enough time. I only live an hour away.
Also, there's a better path that's paved with asphalt to the Wolf house and graves. It's an easier walk. You might've found it on the way back but it was on the right hand side after you enter the parking lot.
I thought that closed up room under the stairs was a wine cellar.
The cottage is accessible from the parking lot to the right as you enter, not the left! You definitely need to go back maybe in the fall!
Oh, but the width and breadth of this man's soul, staggers my very own soul! I'll probably return to this Jack London Page of yours, time, and time again, but I commence for now to tell you, that "Martin Eden" is my all-time favorite work of his. Though the events of Martin's, and Martin's creator's lives were radically different, Jack completely immersed himself into the body of his creation, primally so. When the world-at-large mounted it's wrong response to Martin's towering and, quite not-anticipated success, poor Martin's being was plunged into a depression so black, so black, that it might as well have been the barrenness of the Moon--no soft and dreamy romance--of a "Valley of The Moon". And Martin worked as hard as he could to complete his suicide, as hard as he did, to strive for his success.
Oh, one other thing . . . from one of your other vids . . . could Sir Francis Drake have been here earlier than Cabrillo? I can't find my definitive California histories at hand to confirm or deny.

I was born and lived in Sydney Australia. There are several historic sites here to commemorate his stay here.
A great pity he was so ill while here. He would have enjoyed adventures in the Outback and on our Coasts and rainforests.
He did write some observations of his visits and notes in his memoirs.
A loss to modern literature that he died so young.
Great tour of Jack London’s property. My Caymus DAR chapter had their May meeting there but I missed it as I was out of the state. This made this program more meaningful. Thanks.

Having not heard of Jack London here in Australia, I was amazed as to what he packed into his short life. The remains of Wolf House looked amazing as the exterior hadn’t used machined rocks to make it look smooth. The style is very similar to what was built out here for cattle and sheep barons. Due to Corona things have gotten a bit screwy and the months have flown, but this morning I joined your “live” broadcast and now been shipped back to July. I can see the humour in that lol. To both you and ( ring a ding ) Sarah thanks from Down Under.

The interior of Jack London's boat the snark was purchased by my friend big Bill Kennedy on the big island of Hawaii in the 1980s he built the snarks interior into two of the bedrooms in his redwood house in Pahoa. I actually got to sleep in one of The snarks bunks. Unfortunately about 10 years ago the house burned down.
Wow! You are serious, right? We were wondering about the fate of the Snark. Now we know. It's a tragedy that the boat or its parts were lost! Is any of it still around, other than the pieces of it on display in Glen Ellen? What happened to the steering wheel?

I absolutely love this video! It’s one of my favorites! Your visit to Jack London’s ranch and famous Wolf House. “Call of the Wild” was required reading when I was in school. Jack and Charmaine were certainly well matched for each other. I loved the house that Jack’s widow built 3 yrs. after his death. What a sad but great story of their adventures together! Excellent, research, Jeff! The background music is perfect for the times in which they lived. I’ve saved this video to enjoy again. Sarah’s comments about Charmaine are great! I think that Sarah possesses those same spirited qualities. What a shame that the Wolf House was gutted by fire. Thank you for making that rocky path to Wolf House and the Londons’s grave. I was thinking, “They have to walk back up the hill in the heat!”. Thank you for your interest in Jack London. It’s such an educational and entertaining story! Hi Mo! We loved our visit to Jack London's property but it was so hot that day that Sarah almost didn't make it. I was worried for her! I do think Sarah has some of the same qualities as Charmiane!

great episode...if you're in the area when it's cooler, a hike up to his 'lake' should be in order...i usually stop by the glen ellen market for lunch, btw...also, just up the road, the old bale mill is an interesting stop, and robert louis stevenson history nearby...of course, detours to the petrified forest and california's old faithful are very touristy places...lotsa historic wineries...calistoga and angwin too...i'm not sure if the sonoma developmental center and napa state hospitals are still open or if they've been closed due to state budget actions, but they're a sad but necessary part of california history...i guess i sound like a chamber of commerce junkie...anyway, keep on truckin'...

The house was built by Italian immigrants and stone workers. My paternal grandfather , Guiseppe Moroni, and his 3 brothers from Tuscany worked there. Our grandfather passed down a packet of photos to us. They include photos of the brothers up on the Wolf House walls and pig barn silos, the main house, Jack, Charmaine, their horses and dogs. Great info and video!
Great tour of London ranch and ruin. I visited there in 2016. My brother and sister were with me and my brother suffered an episode of vertigo while on that trail yo the ruin. I had forgotten how young he was when he died.
I did a research paper on call of the Wild in high school. Loved the book. Enjoyed as always. He spent his money wisely back in the day.
I didn't realize Jack London was so young when he died. I love California history and regret not stopping there when I was on a wine tasting trip years ago... next time, for sure. As usual, I really enjoyed this and agree with the others, you guys need your own show!

As a late arrival here to your channel, History Hunters I had no idea that you'd already done an episode on Jack London.. Duh I didn't get that memo... lol I thoroughly enjoyed this look at Jack's house / Wolf home as I hadn't seen them since 1983 or 84 when my Mither had suggested we play hooky from her work and my school and take a drive up to Glen Ellen for the day and check it out. I was 17 that year and right in the middle of reading both 'White Fang' and 'Call of the Wild' as they were suggested by me Mither as she was a voracious reader and I take after her a bit more than I ever cared to admit. Thank You Mom. I've read em all Steinbeck, London, Joyce, Yeats, Hemingway, King, Connolly, Twain (me Mither was born & raised in Hannibal,MO) and L'Amour.. etc. Maybe you could do an episode on Louis L'Amour sometime. To me he ranks right up there with the Greatest of Storytellers.
