Getting CCS certification is an added advantage, however, to be a trainer you will need a lot of practice and understand the inpatient concepts for PCS thoroughly. AHIMA has a formal ICD trainer program as well but it is very expensive.

Both are equally good. It depends on whether you are looking for outpatient or inpatient coding. Outpatient CPC is preferred but for Inpatient I would suggest CCS.

Hi Thanusha. To answer your question straight, there are no specific number of points for the case studies. Get the principal diagnosis correct on all case studies and that is the key to pass. To make it easy, I would say all case studies together make up for almost 120 to 150 marks in the exam out of the total 400.

You can go for CCS directly as long as you are prepared to spend time on learning and practice.

Only 6 case studies out of the 8 will be scored and two are pre-test questions, but there is no way to identify which ones are pretest.
