A Yak Grip cut into two equal sized pieces with one (1) of the pieces slid over the buckle works great! Take a needle and thread and hem cuff the end that was cut-off so it doesn't unravel before sliding over the buckle.
Yeah thinking of getting more stealth strips to wrap the main post to keep it quiet from anything that might contact it and warmer to the touch in cold weather
I got rid of buckles on everything I own- nothing is louder than one of those dense heavy squares of metal clanging & thudding against everything- no matter how careful. Have you tried a cam-over buckle/ over the cam buckle (commonly used to tie down boats)? I just ordered a few, still metal but much lighter- easier to quiet and very tight, can be finessed tight similar to a ratchet strap only lighter. Thanks for the video Joe, your stuff is always good- I'm thinking about a predator platform- guess I should have ordered a few months ago to get it in time!
ThanksAndy! My predator platform took about 1 month to arrive. Could you provide me with a link for the cam over buckle? I need one for my camera arm aswell as the predator platform if it's just as secure and quiet I'll definitely invest in them.
@@NYSaddleHunter I believe it was from strapworks, if you don't need the metal hooks, I suggest ordering without- will come with loops in the strap- the metal hooks are so hard & strong- you'll need a larger than normal bolt cutter to remove them- & they fly like a bullet when clipped (my buddy Stan experienced this- almost broke his window). I'll double check- but think it's www.strapworks.com
@@NYSaddleHunter i really like the simplicity of the WEI Perch. I can strap it to the outside of my backpack & I keep the Perch attached to the same Stepp which eliminates 1 more step for true mimimalism.
To deaden the sound of the platform, I sprayed mine with rubberized undercoating that you can buy at an auto parts store. It takes a few days to dry enough to handle and paint, but takes the metallic sound out of the platform.
I tossed my strap & buckle because it was very hard to get to release after setting & using the platform...I’m talking ‘beat on it tight’. Went with 3/16ths amsteel doubled within itself. Brummel sliced a small loop on one end and I strap it on the tree just like you would a climbing stick with buttons & rope. No worries now. Goes on & off with no problems.
I like the concept of quiet with no weight so the Amsteel that u can splice a loop in2 is the way that I will go, just need no stretch & it should be quieter putting on & taking off. Getting out undetected is half the battle.
Just don't bang it together, bro. 😂JK. Thanks for sharing your tips.
I'd use an amsteel daisy chain instead of the factory strap

Would love to see a pic of that can you post one on our Facebook page NY saddlehunter forum?
@@NYSaddleHunter Joe I already posted a photo of this a couple weeks ago. I will try to tag you
Wrap a bit of vet tape around the post where those contact points are works well too.

Inner tube works great for metal buckles.
G2 Outdoors did a very good video on splicing Amsteel & Predator cord, a must watch 4 anybody who wants or already is saddle hunting.
Yak Grips
I'm not familiar with Yak grips what are they?
Kayak Paddle grips, if you cut one in half you get 2 custom padded sound deadening buckle covers. 👍
@@chadgoebel7476 ah ok great idea

awesome video...thanks a lot...love the channel...yall are some really good dudes
I was wondering if plasti dip would work, either spray or dip. As long as it doesn't gum up the spring mechanism and make it unsafe.

Stealth strip makes something now just for buckles

I believe the Matt finish is because it’s cast aluminum.
I just got my platform tonight. First thing I did was bicycle tube the buckle. Thanks for the vid. Will be taping the contact points tomorrow.
I ended up using stealth strips and it worked out really well.
@@NYSaddleHunter this is what i was going to tell you to do, works beautifully (stealth strip that is)
