Often I am intrigued when I see parents in the West explaining very educatively and interactively to their children things around them. An interesting case study is that of the Senegalese society. Despite having similar social structures to that found in The Gambia, the Senegalese are effective communicators both in their local dialects and French. They are very coherent, logical clear and persuasive. This is attributable to the fact that they have far stronger command of the languages and dialects in their society. In the case of The Gambia this deficiency in communication is part of the root causes of poverty and under development. Unless, this is addressed there is little chance of any meaningful sustainable development in the Gambia.
