    I had to laugh when you talked about drinking wine and only being able to handle one glass. Yes, exactly! A couple weeks ago when my daughter took me out to lunch I had one drink ... and then made the mistake of ordering a second drink. I spent about two hours afterward ... sleeping on her couch! My surgery was 11 years ago when I was 65. Other changes I have experienced ... no more sleep apnea or use of a CPAP machine, and no longer need my cholesterol medication. But, I have developed a lactose intolerance over the years. I absolutely can't eat ice cream, but over the past few years, I found that even milk bothers me. Luckily, cheese is still OK. I can eat a pretty big portion of food depending on what it is. I usually make a veggie scramble with either eggs or tofu for lunch. But if I eat things like pasta, or meats, my capacity is much lower. Like you, I'm eating a lot more fruits (and veggies) every day. I try to make both breakfast and lunch mostly fruits and vegetables ... adding some protein with eggs, tofu, greek yogurt and things like that. I also have coffee each morning with part of a protein drink as my creamer. I take my little dog for a walk each morning so we both get our exercise in. I use the Healthi app to track what I eat and wear a Fitbit to track my steps and sleep pattern--both nice tools to keep me on track.

      Haha- the struggle is real when you get that second drink 🤣Great tips on how you are staying on track so far post op!!

    Interesting video Kaki. I am 15 months post mini gastric bypass and like you would have the operation all over again. With the mini bypass, there is nothing that I cannot eat, some things definitely do not sit well, like rice which for me fills me up too much. I also like wine tasting and eating out. I have had no issues and still go but it has to be over fours hours and I can eat and drink everything as long as they are small servings. I loved the comment about tastes changing, I never liked oysters and now love them.
    I had a message from a lady in the US asking me what a mini bypass is as she had read one of my previous comment which got me thinking why did she not know about this as it was first performed in the US. It turns out that the mini gastric bypass is not covered by most health insurance in the US and because of this there are hardly any Surgeons trained to perform this procedure which is a shame as it is a definite alternative to a roux en y bypass 😊

      Hi there! You are right about the mini-bypass- it is not familiar to most of the bariatric community in the US, and not covered my most insurance. The SADI-S procedure it the same with little coverage. It is a shame. I feel like there should be as many choices available as possible so people can decide what is right for them specifically.

    • @kellielambert2184
      @kellielambert2184 6 месяцев назад

      Most definitely - all options should be provided. The mini bypass is overtaking the traditional one here in Australia as the preferred bypass operation and it is the same in the UK as my cousin lives there and had the same procedure as me. 😊

    I am 62, 5 months RnY and 30 lbs from my goal. I love NSVs almost more than the weight loss itself! Energy to do the things I love. My skin is soft and smooth (hydration). Knee arthritis pain down by at least 50%, so was able to plant my garden for the first time in 3 years! Brain fog cleared from my mind. Crossing legs is so fun! Being off many medications. I wish I had not waited so long to do this....That is my regret

    Hi kaki. I've found your videos to be so informative and helpful. I'm just one day shy of being 6 weeks post-op. Only yesterday I really noticed my weightloss when I had to get dressed for an appointment because it has been slow going for me. My pants were looser, my t-shirt hung lower over my tummy and I had to put a new hole in my belt. 😊

      Those first weeks after surgery are so exciting- learning to handle your new anatomy and advancing foods. Good luck!

    Hi Kaki, love your videos. Started following you before my surgery and watch every video. I'm just over 7 months post op. The night I got home from surgery (second night post) I slept so much better and have continued to sleep so well since having the surgery. As the weight comes off my joints feel better, there's a marked relief in pain, I just feel so much better. I'm able to do housework and simple things like tying my shoes without struggle. I'm able to get out and be more active. I still have a ways to go, but I'm down 84 pounds. I would love to loose another 30, I think. But, if the weight loss stopped tonight and this was as far as the surgery took me, I wouldn't have any regrets. I feel so much better! I miss certain little things. We camp every year and it was much easier in years previous where I could just eat whatever was going or eat at the campground's restaurant. This year I will have to be very mindful and will take a scale with me and it will involve a lot of extra planning. But, the results are worth it. I really appreciate your videos and guidance and hope you continue to do well.

    As of May 26, I have lost a total of seventy-four lbs. It is the NSV that means so much: crossing my legs when I sit, walking up stairs without being winded, feeling more confident, and not being afraid to sit in chairs at events. The only drawback is that there is no padding in my rear, so my tailbone hurts sometimes, lol. I would not change this for the world!

    • @kakisrnyjourney5376
      @kakisrnyjourney5376  6 месяцев назад

      I have that tailbone pain too!! The fear of sitting in chairs at events really resonates. I had a flimsy plastic chair collapse under me once, and I have been scared ever since then. So nice to not have that fear anymore!

    Hi Kaki, what a great ‘anniversary” post. It’s great to hear the reflections. For me, the weeks are starting to fall into a rhythm and it’s all starting to become the new normal. I’m 10 weeks PO and currently in my first stall. It’s frustrating, but I keep telling myself that I just need to “ride it out”. I know I need to increase my activity and have finally been given the all clear to go back on my horse 🎉 so am looking forward to riding this weekend. I gave up riding last year because I was too heavy to get on, so I’m very excited to get back in the saddle. My poor horse won’t know what’s hit him 😂

    Hello from Canada! Just wanted to let you know that I look forward to all of your videos and I have appreciated all of the honest, realistic and down to earth advice you have shared along my journey. I am 13mths post op, doing excellent, and I too understand what you are saying about missing a few things along the way like the wine/food tours. Its like a bit of mourning lol. But all of the other victories make it all worth it 😊.

    Thanks, your info is always so helpful. I’m almost 6 months out and I love that you’re sharing all aspects of your journey so I can have a plan in place for avoiding weight regain from your last video as well as an idea of what life will look like once I reach weight maintenance. I took a few minutes to think what I would do different at goal weight than now and there’s really not much other than eating more vegetables and indulging in potatoes and peanut butter a little more often.

    • @kakisrnyjourney5376
      @kakisrnyjourney5376  6 месяцев назад +1

      I am glad that you are finding my videos helpful and that you are planning for life in maintenance. Honestly, the main thing in my diet that has changed are the increased fruit intake, more healthy carbs like these amazing pea pod snacks I found and adding things like a little protein granola to my yogurt.

    Thank you for this honest update! I am 2 yrs PO and it helps to hear where others are at with intake etc. Can't wait to see if you do a video on RH. I finally get to see a bariatric dietician about it next week and I hope to control it will diet. Do you do any carbs aside from ones from protein and veggies? Like rice, potato etc? I am now wearing a CGM and wow, how my glucose goes way up over just a couple small bites of refined carbs.

    • @kakisrnyjourney5376
      @kakisrnyjourney5376  6 месяцев назад

      My glucose does too, even sometimes with sugar alcohols in sugar free treats. I don't eat potatoes or rice much other than a bite every blue moon.

    • @kakisrnyjourney5376

      Congrats!! My biggest advice at this point is to prep some different flavors of broth and freeze them. I scoured Pinterest and found several different varieties and made them, then froze in single servings. It got me through the liquid pre and post op diet! Just write down any questions and be sure to take them to your pre-op appt. It is so easy to get overwhelmed and forget to ask things.
