Tune is used for the Christmas song What Child is This?
This is said to have been written by Henry 8th (rightly or wrongly) What Child is This is sung to the same tune, you need to hear "My Maria" Tim and Austin and friends please please x
I absolutely 2nd My Maria on Austin Browns channel.
The song is hundreds of years old dating back to Tudoe times. It's said Henry VIII wrote this. It's melody is used for the Christmas song What Child Is This. Often played around the holidays in instrumental versions. It's very haunting. Thanks for posting this, Peter and Tom do so well together.
You definitely should check out MY Maria by Austin and Tim and also Drivers License by Chance. You will love that one, another story song. 😊
Tim sings low so effortlessly. I love his voice and every time I hear him sing, I just smile. He brings so much into every song and he blends so well with Peter and everyone else he sings with. How happy I am that I came to know Home Free and all the talent that each one brings.
What child is this, the same melody. Chris Rupp ft Home Free does an incredible version of it, Tim does some crazy bass things there
When Chris or Adam arrange songs they always give Tim some crazy bass things to do.
Was going to say the same thing about the melody.
This is the best version I have ever heard, so beautiful - wow. I love this song and Peter and Tim did a fantastic job with it. Tim's range never ceases to amaze me and this song is a great example of that. I can totally understand your goosebump feeling, love your reactions from HF!
I actually had this tune on a music box growing up. One day I just hit 'play' on Peter Hollens' channel and INSTANTLY recognized the tune and fell in love with this version. (after 7+ years of not hearing the music box) About a year later I finally fell down the Home Free rabbit hole (more like, shoved, since I didn't get the first two hints :P), and it took me longer than it should have to put two and two together.
In other words, this melody just sticks with ya! Its beautiful and slightly haunting.
Ya know, your smile is just captivating. Don't ever forget that. 😊😁
I love seeing you get the chills with these amazing voices!! How could we not?! It's great to be a Home Fry! 🥰
😊 thanks
Nice example of Tim's vocal range.
Another good one with Peter and Tim is Fire and Rain.
Beautiful old song done by 2 very talented guys. Their voices blend very well & showcase their incredible ranges. Love all the collaborations they have done together.
TIM has a 5 octave range. Listen to "MAYDAY". You will be very surprised! These two collaborate fairly often. Their voices really compliment each other. If you haven't heard "MISTY MOUNTAINS" yet, please watch it. TIM goes so deep that it is unreal. You are one of my favorite reactionist. HOMEFREE has approximately 150 recordings, and each one is spectacular. If you are sentimental, then you would enjoy "MY OLD MAN" and "MOM". THEY ALSO HAVE COLLABORATED WITH KENNY ROGERS, JEWEL, THE OAK RIDGE BOYS, DON McCLEAN, and so many more. Please go down that very deep rabbit hole. You will be so happy that you did! I am sure that you hear this often, but THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. I, for one am very grateful.
I have a large playlist that keeps growing lol I believe I have a couple of these already on there if I am missing some just comment again on a different video saying that you looked through them and found I was missing this one so I know what to add :) (it also helps as RUclips does not give me a notification sometimes to a reply on a reply lol
Henry VIII wrote it for his future Queen, Anne Boleyn. It’s said he was quite musically talented. I Googled it to find the history of the song. Peter & Tim are great together. Peter’s great at layering.
Theme song to the Lassie tv show for multiple years
The Brothers Four did this song in the 60s…it’s a folk song dating back to at least 1580. Absolutely beautiful done by the guys…the timbres of Tim and Peter Holden’s are so good together. The tune is also What Child Is This. Never heard of Greensleeves being done in a movie…and I’m one who used to live at the movies!
My mom used to sing this to me when I was little, and I'm 63. It was old even then ... Beautiful, haunting melody. Thank you for bringing back sweet memories of my mother ....
Yes this was written over 300 years ago in the time of Henry VIII !! This was filmed in one take shot on the side the highway!! Beautiful background and a haunting melody! Great Reaction!!
This is a VERY OLD ballad. It is from around the time of Henry the 8th.
This is hauntingly beautiful and really showcases Tim's 5+ octave range! I love the flexibility he has to allow such movement up and down the scale so easily and still sound so perfectly pleasant at both ends of his higher and lower register. Peter has a beautiful voice and sound! So very light and soothing. When these two blend their harmonies it is magical!
Thank you for reacting to this amazing song! ♥️😀
Wasn’t it stunning?!!! They did the video in 1 take on the Oregon coast I think. Peter and Tim are remarkable. Yes, you hear the melody in What Child Is This at Christmastime probably. It’s a very old song, maybe from the 1500’s. Might be about Anne Boleyn (married to King Henry the VIII? It’s so beautiful and one of my favorites of Peter and Tim. They are magic together. Yes, I am always surprised by how high Tim can sing. Good reaction TS. It does give one goosebumps.
I've heard this song before I first heard Peter and Tim sing it. I heard one of the cook ladies in The Secret Garden sing it (it's in the background as Mary is first getting ready to go outside). I have always loved this tune, and had no idea it was a traditional old English song.
What Child is This has the same melody. Wonderful reaction!
There was a version of this song in "sons of anarchy", it was on one of the soundtrack albums at least. Performed by Katey Sagal if I'm not mistaken.
Katey Sagal sings ??......Peggy Bundy ??.......wow, the things i've learned at 64 yo.....lol
As said, the same tune is used for the Christmas song What Child Is This but it is also considered a folk song in the U.K. and even the Beatles recorded a version of it.
I am so so HAPPY you did this one! It's my favorite collab between Peter and Tim. Tim la voice in this one gives me chills every single time! And if you didnt know this, this video was not done with a green screen. It was on site and they did it in ONE take to capture the scenery.
"Greensleeves" is a really really old song...you may have heard it if you've ever seen a movie about knights...like Sir Lancelot and Guinevere for example or something set back in those days. I believe its roots are Old English or Scottish...Im not sure.
I just know I'd never heard it like this and it will forever be my favorite. Loved your reaction!
I am a big medieval fan with fantasy and romance. So this could be where I heard it from!
Peter and Tim do an amazing job with this song. Their voices together really put the feelings and chills to this song. I have heard it lots of times but not sure who else sang it. I that it seems King Henry the Vlll wrote the song for Anne Boleyn, anyway that was what was said on one page when I looked it up. I just know Peter and Tim did great with it. Thanks for reacting to it.
This is a beautiful song, a beautiful melody, and what Child Is This? also uses the same melody. That’s why it’s familiar to you! Thanks for your great reaction!
This was a lovely version of this song. Wonderful harmonies. Thanks for your reaction
Greensleeves is an old English Folk song. From the time period of Henry V111. It's been in a lot of movies and the more popular version of the song is a very popular Christmas song. "What Child is This".
Christmas song What Child is This is done to this melody.
Also, I never watched Sons of Anarchy but my husband did and he plays a soundtrack with a version of this on it...maybe?
Either way, chills galore. Thanks!
This has been sung in many T.V. shows and usually around Christmas time.
Greensleeves is one of my favourite old English folk? songs and this is my favourite version & it givesme chills too. And I love the scenery and its just amazing that the video is done as one shot. Great reaction mate
Greensleeves was used for the theme song for a very old movie, "The Alamo", starring John Wayne.
Love this song, Tim and Peter did a terrific job on it. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us!
Melody, courtesy of Tutor Troubadours, current familiarity courtesy Christmas song "What Child is This", chills courtesy of Peter & Tim.
You've already been told about the Christmas song that most people recognize; this tune has been used in instrumental form as soundtrack and atmosphere music many times and in many versions. I love singing this along with Tim when I'm driving...
Thanks for reacting to this treasure and a fine reaction it was.
This is my favorite of the many spectacular Peter & Tim collaborations. They make this centuries old song sound as if it were divinely inspired for them to some day sing.
The stunning beauty of the Oregon coast was the perfect setting for this *one cam one shot* video too.
It is hundreds of years old, The Tudors i think 🤔 My Maria by Tim & Austin will surprise you 😉🥰
Thats where I heard it from!
"TS", the version they're singing is an old English folk song from the 1500s. The version you've probably heard & are being haunted by is an English Christmas song, "What Child Is This", from the 1800s so I knew that as soon as it started, you'd know you'd heard the melody before.🤔 Even though it was an English song, "What Child Is This" is more popular in the US than the UK! I didn't know the version Tim & Peter are singing was called "Greensleeves" until I was an adult!😊😘
Green Sleeves was sung by Mark Lucas McCains son in the old TV series Rifle man seadon 5 episode 26, (I had to look that part up) but it is one of my favorite episodes. Hope this helps. Love your reactions. I have a suggestion as well Austin Brown the high tenor of home free has a individual channel as does Tim Foust the deep bass singer. On Austin's channel check out Austin and Tim singing My Maria a Brooks and Dunn cover and Austin singing Tears in Heaven a Eric Clapton cover both a awesome.
While the lyrics seem to fit the relationship between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, the song is in a style that did not reach England until Henry's daughters were on the throne. The first written mention is from 1580, well into the reign of Henry and Anne's daughter.
Have always loved this ballad, it's an old song Henry the VIII wrote it.
Also What Child is This uses same time.
It and Beautiful Dreamer are childhood favorites. A this is the most beautiful rendition.
Yep, it’s the same music for the Christmas song, What Child Is This. You should check out that song on Chris Rupp’s channel. He did it with Home Free after he left the group so it’s the only time we get to see all six most recent members singing together.
Centuries old. Always been one of my favs
This a truly beautiful song. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction.
What, Tim in high range. Amazing
Glad it's not just me who has these moments - obsessed to remember something just out of reach. If you're not into Christmas songs you wouldn't really remember where you heard the melody before, because it's not a vey popular carol. Cheers!
One of my favorite Peter/ Tim collaborations. You should also check out Peter and Avi Kaplan singing Black is the Color...just as beautiful.
Hi there Trivax! I dare say the majority of people will have only heard the instrumental music of this?!?! As this is my very first time hearing any lyrics to the music/medley! Gorgeous!
Most everyone knows the instrumental version but not too many artists have done the vocals. It's a very moving song. Great reaction😊❤️
This is an old minstrel song from medieval times.
They sang this beautifully 😍
This in my humble opinion is the best song Peter and Tim have done together. I love Tim chose to flex his range on this one
This video was filmed on the Oregon coast not far from where I live.
This tune is also used for the Christmas song :what child is this"
One legend is, that it was written by King Henry VIII for the only one of his wives that died naturally while still married to King Henry, and that was Jane Seymour who died from complications after she gave birth to his son, who followed Henry on the Throne as Edward VII
It's an old popular folk song and you can see some of Tim's range here.
THANK YOU FOR THE REACTION IT IS QUITE BEAUTIFUL SMILES AND LOVE
Such a wonderful reaction, What Child Is This and Greensleeves have the same tune, that is probably why is seems familiar.
This melody has been used for many songs. One is a christmas song. Where they sing Greensleeves etc. was This, this is christ the King,-who shepherds guard and angels sing. You probably heard it in church every christmas. song is What child is this?
Post before reaction, I am so excited to hear what they do with this ... this song is an older than usual classic. Irish decent I think, sorry if that's incorrect.
You probably heard the music at Christmas time, but with different lyrics. It’s a Christmas song called “What Child is This?”
This song is from 1580. Yep, I said 1580. It was registered at the London Stationer’s Company in 1580. It is believed to have been written by Henry VIII for his second wife, Anne Boleyn.
This song is old. We sang it in Chorus back in the 60s and 70s
I was taught at school that Henry VIII wrote this for Anne Boleyn, who he later had beheaded so he could marry Jane Seymour. So maybe not so romantic! Love this version especially Tim’s range. Thanks for reacting.
You know the melody from “What Child Is This”
Much love ❤️ always ty for the prayers for my momma 😘
The old version of tetris had this tune.
Tim and Peter do a beautiful version of Bridge Over Troubled Water...
Yes they do! Already done check out my playlist :)
GREENSLEEVES WAS IN THE 1962 MOVIE HOW THE WEST WAS WON. BUT PROBABLY WHY IT SOUNDS FAMILIAR IS THAT IT IS THE SAME TUNE AS THE CHRISTMAS SONG, WHAT CHILD IS THIS.
Them song to Lassie.
Think about the Christmas song What Child Is This, same music! Love your reactions, always put a smile on my face!
❤❤
Learned this in grade school ...... not sure of anyone else! Just Sayin'
This was written in the Middle Ages
Are you to Scarbrough fair ...by Amy Nutall. You might like as it to is old song
Since you like to check out live versions of Home Free’s song, here’s live “Castle on the Hill”. They are introducing using a “looper” like Ed Sheeran uses & was used in the official video of the song. Please react to it! Love your reactions & your smile! ruclips.net/video/MB3vPzYlQ4Q/видео.html
Think Tudor times and if you were at the court of Henry 8th you would be very familiar with this song.
Okay, the performance: superb..would be even more superb without the heavenly angels, it interferes with the guys singing, it does not enhance it! Only my opinion folks!
Thanks my friend, your reactions are the best. Pat on head for hounds and take care 💐💐
Suits you. You look medieval
Can you review the grand thief auto five rap parody
What child is this? They filmed in one take, with sun going down.
