As an American watching this for the first time in September, 2021, it was so freaking obvious that Girls Aloud did not come to play. They came out to annihilate. Holy cow, what a debut back then.
Let's face it the lads had no chance they were bland. The girls were not all the best singers but were interesting and Sound of the Underground is just a banging pop song still now in 2021
I was in the audience that night sitting on this row at 16:33 with Cheryl Tweedy's family, I was sitting next to Cheryl's brother Joe who I had some conversations with during the Ad breaks and after he invited me to join him and his family at the bar in the studio where they were waiting hours from Cheryl to join them, I got to know them a little while we waited for her, they were so kind offering me drink's and cigarettes. Finally her mum introduced me to Cheryl when she arrived, she was quite tired and busy texting on her phone but still kind and friendly.
I remember my housemates watching this back in the day (I wasnt into pop so didnt watch the show) I came in when 'sound of the underground' came on and all three of us were sat on the couch by the end agreeing, "THAT is a fucking tune". Still sounds fresh. Was so rare for girls to get a better deal than the boys (because boy bands ruled the day) and it was very obvious the girls had been given the banger.
Yep, totally agreed. The fact that OTV got a cover song, while GA gotten a original song. I do believe they were set to lose, the competition and the girls to win it.
Thanks for this. Wow when they came with Sound Of The Underground. Floopin heck. That song gave Girls Aloud a career! The right girls, the chemistry, everything all came together. Go Girls Aloud.
the girls actually looked good as a group. the boys, well i think daniel thought himself as lead singer, they didnt really look right together, the boys that didnt make it went on to form phixx and were much better
I think about this moment in music history more than I should. By all metrics, the boys should have won this show: - They were considered stronger singers overall - The girls were criticised for being more about looks than talent (and were marred somewhat by Javine’s failure to make the final lineup) - The key viewing/single buying demo was teen and pre-teen girls in an age where boy bands like Blue and Westlife ruled the airwaves - The boys were managed by Pete Waterman - still hot off the success of Pop Idol while the girls had the lesser known Louis Walsh in their corner And then Girls Aloud performed Sound of the Underground - one of the best UK pop songs of the early 2000s. Still a banger to this day. Those poor lads in their beige coats didn’t stand a chance. I would love to have been a fly on the wall then they heard the girl’s song for the first time.
I think the girls had a lot more personality though. The Spice girls were weaker singers than GA, but the similarity was they all had character and star quality. And good move having Nicola sing last … she’s the strongest singer easily, Nadine step aside, and she was the only one with Sarah singing a banger rather than another bland r&b song like the boys, Kimberley and Cheryl.
@@Quidwitchh I don't agree the Spice Girls were weaker singers. Spice Girls had much stronger and elaborate harmonies. Girls Aloud couldn't really harmonize for shit.
The boys were definitely stronger singers but they were let down massively by their marketing team. I think at this point in time the public was tired of the whole boy band routine, especially when they weren’t offering anything new. I don’t think anyone was excited by the prospect of 5 guys wearing trench coats singing a boring ballad. Whilst Sound of the underground might seem somewhat pedestrian by today’s standards it was exciting and different back then. ANTON DRIVES A TAXI NOW.
I honestly think Cheryl is a really good singer. But maybe it’s a British thing?
Really? I'm British. Maybe it's a deaf thing..?
It's a 'not being tone deaf' thing.
Uh what 😂😂😂😂
@@TheMannSays love it I like cheryl shes an amazing dancer but vocally her tone of voice stays flat as a pancake, nothing wrong that but she struggles with holding a melody unlike nadine. Sarah was good but she has tendencies to shout her singing which I hate! I like watching this back the boys could have done good with the right song??! Poor lads lol.
Weak vocals from Cheryl on Stay-not surprised obviously!
Nadine is the strongest singer obviously
nicola was never in the bottom 2, she has a great voice, very under rated
Wow one true voice seriously sucked didn't they.
One True Voice are better looking than BTS
Kimberley was awful there. Nadine the strongest with Nicola second
I really liked this song shame they were just another one hit wonder
20 consecutive top 10's more than any other girl band ever and you say one hit wonders Christ you must look even stupider than you sound
Hate all the Showbiz 'love each other crap' 🤢
What! Why are you here, then?
One can watch, doesn't mean one has to worship shiney objects 😄
Without a doubt boys are the better singers shame could of gone far
It’s only if they got their own original song and had a chance or at least push further, I just feel like they don’t seem to be the boy band they promised to be.
I think they should have wonl
1. The name of the group: ONE TRUE VOICE - out of touch, completely disconnected with the intended audience.
2. The name of the song: has the word "SACRED" in it??? Completely out of touch with the intended audience (it would have done slightly better if it was titled "TRUST IN ME").
3. Visually they looked so mismatched! The first rule for pop groups like this is that THEY SHOULD ALL BE THE SAME HEIGHT!!!
Lame!
Well, considering OTV got a cover as a single. If they won the competition, while GA ended up getting a original song.
I feel like OTV set to lose and GA was going to win anyway, whether or not OTV had a chance against GA.
@@GrizzlyPurpleBearKatieExactly. OTV were stuck with a cover song, while GA gotten a original.
I'm embarrassed as hell for Sarah
SARAH AS A BRILL VOICE,YOUR MUST BE TONE DEATH
