About 40 years ago a wire wheel on my grinder stuck a wire in my eye. Emergency pulled it, and the next day the eye doctor sat me down, and essentially used something that looked a lot like a dentist's drill to remove the rust halo that had formed from the wire. I had regular eye glasses on at the time it happened. I can still remember seeing that damn drill bit descending into my eyeball. I have used full safety glasses and a face shield every time I get near anything rotating in my shop, my yard, or my car. Just sayin'.

@@davidwright9688 I totally agree that a full face shield is smart and appreciate the reminder about how important shop safety is! Also, thanks for watching...

If you use garnet sandpaper you'll find that it removes rust but does very little marking of the cast iron, the other tool that I use for rust removal as a sawmill machinery technician are the fibre paint removal wheels. I regularly have to rebuild and recommission machinery thats been in storage in damp and leaky sheds so got pretty good at rust removal from planer mill beds and such .

I agree that the garnet sandpaper does a great job. I'll have to try out one of those paint removal wheels next. Thanks for watching!
