I love your pride in our great country Neil.
Neil is a gem on YT. Truly a gentleman and a scholar.
Hello from New England, Neil.🇺🇸
I hope to visit some of the British Isles you speak of with such admiration. There is so much British history I would never had learned about except for all your podcasts, which are so interesting, so beautifully designed and expressed. The photography is breathtaking too. I give you and Paul kudos for creating all these wonderful podcasts for your appreciative audience.👏👏
A Patreon subscription to Mr Oliver is worth every penny. Highly informative, entertaining and the extra bonus of connecting with like minded people. Keep speaking the truth. It keeps us all going. The voice of sanity in an otherwise insane world.
As a true Londoner, a female born and bred in the early 60's (East End) coming from a staunchly patriotic and fiercely protective dad and grandad, who both taught me SO much history of London, this makes me feel very sad and heavy-hearted as to what we have become.
Our little Isles, a fabulous jewel in the sea, so small yet so strong and powerful, our people with so much bollocks and guts over the centuries, we were so mighty and would front up any super power, never back down💪 ever since Boudicca and beyond! I feel my ancestors running through my veins yet the people here don't seem to be like me anymore, an old soul yearning to defend and keep what's ours, our freedoms, our eccentricities, our uniqueness, all the things our ancestors fought so hard for. I feel very helpless and sad, that the majority are so 'woke' and pathetic nowadays, that's why I love to listen to old soul Mr. Oliver, he is my kind of human💎💥
So grateful for my 2 beautiful, strong and intelligent daughters...💎💎 thankfully they are old souls too!!!🙏🔥🌠💖
Hold on to all of that. England is the people, their history, their language.
I wish the internet had been around when I visited Greenwich and London. I would have derived so much more from the experience.
@@LilyGazou Thank you🙏🤝💕
@@ellenoneill7853 yes me too, moved out to Essex for my girls when they were little, for a better way of life. Yes we are old Londoners at heart, and it will never be the same again but we carry the old ways with us 🤗💝 nice to 'meet' you 🤝😁💕
Simply a beautiful episode. Thank you, Neil Oliver, Paul Ratcliff, and team.
Scammer alert
Thank you Neil. You just inspired me to visit Greenwich on my next visit to London. Was watching this halfway through yesterday and will finish watching it soon. Always an honour and joy to listen to your sharing. Thanks for being a true fighter. X
oooh that gave me chills. My son used to live in Greenwich, before he married. I loved it there. I'm a Londoner, but hardly go there now. It is a wonderful city. Thanks Neil. Great episode.
Fascinating - the y actually made Britain and Greenwich the centre of the world and time
Did you know if you flattened out a world map that Israel is the centre of the world ?
I could listen to you and Paul for hours. I often replay episodes again just to revisit people, places, and times past through your voices and personal vision. The graphics are pretty cool too 😊 Thank you.
Brilliant Neil
Hello Neil from Missouri USA.

My husband and I always look forward to The Love Letters from you and Paul. Thank you so much. The best!

Best content on the tube
Very moving. I love Greenwich - and you’ve just inspired me to love it even more. 🙏💕
They had character those early clocks, not to mention, some rather impressive craftmanship. Fantastic historical timepieces!
Great episode Neil, fascinating and beautiful.
*_If you want to find a loyal, true Champion for our beloved country ? - You're looking right at him, right there ..._
Explain him being a champion,if you please..

That was indeed beautiful. I was born in London and spent many childhood hours at Greenwich in the shadow of Woolfe, looking out across my city. The view has changed so much in the past 50 years, as I suppose it must, but St Paul's may still be seen as it was by Turner over two hundred years ago.
Great show! I live in Shooters Hill in Greenwich Borough, so all this is very familiar! I'm also a trained cartographer and currently an RS Surveyor! So all pretty relevant to me - but still learnt a thing or two!
Thanks Neil 👍🏻
Anyone else remember dialling TIM to find out what time it was? 🙂

I love the beds you have for your dogs Neil. They clearly appreciate them.
Another brilliant video
Good story lad
I remember learning in school that time zones were also made due to the railways; that before time zones, each zone wasn’t an hour difference, but that time changed minute by minute the further west you went.
Such a treat! Fantastic channel Neil, love all this history and its relation to who and what we are now 😊
It might just be my brain but this episode made me consider the time delay of sending the Greenwich meantime to America and how they calculated it, ended up reading about the signal pips that I remember hearing from BBC broadcasts even here in Aus. thanks for another excellent episode.
Teaching history was nothing like this when I was a lad: sadly.
Subscribed and listening here in Northern Maine!
Wow amazing podcast thank you so much. I’ve just booked a trip.
Del Boy found one of these old time pieces in his garage . . .
How do we really know that this is true. We have been lied to about so much, and told of the time zones. How do we know what is true anymore.
Excellent question, and I agree. QUESTION ALL “AUTHORITY”. Use critical thinking skills, find information yourself, feel your inner being, you will be able to discern truth from LIES by how strong you feel inside. LIES drain us.
Does anyone know why we pronounce Greenwich like grain... instead of like green (colour)?
Local lad here. Its pronounced grinnij
In Old English, it was Grenawic meaning Green Village. And in old English the w was pronounced like a v.
I’ve read that it was originally pronounced Grin idge or Grin itch. Supposedly the Grenn itch is a US import. Others call it a “middle class pollution “.
Look up the Great Vowel Shift sometime- lots of fun. Reason and raisin used to be pronounced the same.
I notice that the English pronounce the g in “ing “ and in the NY area people say “in”. Hey
I’m walkin’ heah.
J. Probably same reason we pronounce 'through,' as thru. Or ,'tough' as tuff. L.
One day we will decide we want our supermarkets to supply a tool that make cylindrical poop into square poop. The future looks good
Same reply for all of us who look forward to your preaching of scripture of our Lord Jesus Christ. and this constant changing world.
Wolff's *Fatalism* appears to be an unusual interpretation thereof, given "force of will" apparently got him to where he eventually arrived.
Your stuff is like fairy tales, very interesting. (U.S.A.).
Plains of Abraham..
I'm not in different times. Time is a sphere. Bloody flat timers! Grrr 😂
GBNEWS presenter so best ignored. And climate change denier. A begging letter to his “time travellers “
What an awesome episode, I could listen to you all day 👍
No one brings history to life like you do Neil. You have a well-deserved place in the Nation's Heart.
I went to University in Greenwich (graduated 2003) and visited the park often and have done so since.
You are right about the view, it keeps on expanding and expanding, at very acute angles! I will add, that I love the view from Primrose Hill too but the view from Greenwich encapsulates how important the river is to our London.
Thank You Again!
Wonderful journey, as always! Thank you!
🙏🏻💪🙏🏻
Love this. Greenwich park was a major aspect to my life over the years. From skateboarding in the 70s to Sunday visits to the market and the park as a family, including the Oak tree prison and the Royal observatory and the Naval college. A favourite place of mine 💙
As someone lucky enough to be born in Greenwich, you cannot be immune to the sense of history this place exudes. The best park in London, in fact anywhere and a most magical and spiritual place. Thank you Neil it was a magnificent video 🥰
And a great market too, visited it in 2004 and never forgot it, think the "Cutty Sark" is there too?
Thankyou for being you
'Time' well spent listentng to this, thank you. Another fascinating look back at history.
A truly fascinating moment in our development....having a watch! Great episode, Neil ❤️
Gives new meaning to "Won't give you the time of day."
Greenwich, My Home town. Thank you Neil for Visiting here.
Keep speaking truth and facts to the Masses
Neil, this video was absolutely wonderful! As an American, I have been interested in the history of the British Isles. Now if Americans can stop with the "daylight savings time" (except Arizona and Hawaii, as those states do not change time), maybe they will embrace GMT.
I spend most days in London and at first I thought "awww London?" But, what a fascinating episode! I would never have believed that everywhere had their own time frames such a short time ago. I remember some teachers bringing in the occasional vhs of something they had seen on telly to bring in and show us. I never really liked history, maybe it was the way it was taught. When I was a kid, I thought "There were some people, they died and now we're here, who cares?" I hope many teachers take notes from you because you do seem to have a knack of inducing engagement like a hypnotist. Now I see the importance in and value of history and if my teachers were more like you, I have no doubt, I would have chosen to take it for me gcse's. I look forward to the next one.
Thank you for this fascinating video. I have never been to Greenwich but will definitely be heading there soon.😊
Could I just say that tho many of us okder citizens support you we are unable to sign up to Patreon dye to limited funds. But that does not mean we do not supportbu. Both i your historical podcasts and in yourviews on the latest political events.
Yes, I listen to some great tubers, Neil being one of the best. My pension won't allow me to go there.
We have to go back to go forward! It will take work, but the joy is infinite. Jesus came to tell us how. God bless all on the journey 🙏❤️✝️
Thank you Mr Oliver for your insight much appreciated! Your doggie is awesome! :D love the hounds
Hello Sir Oliver Neil rise up my highland Brave i ears. Hug.
PS: I have learned SO much on this series ,
Thank you so much My Friend 🙏⚔️🕊️
People used to call it "Railway Time". :)
james cook was also there at quebec , i think he carried out the depth soundings under the cover of darkness prior to the attack so wolfe's men could complete their task to access the cliffs to the plain of abraham great history translation neil. cheers from down under. ps i was lucky enough to walk the abraham plain & check out the battle area as well as the fort there in 2018
The image that stuck out to me was the old black and white photo of old men with beards standing in front of the steps at a conference building. The way they dressed and looked is surely from another time. Men looked so accomplished back then. It gives me nostalgia for the past. Wow have times changed.
Brilliant Chanel Neil.
Good Morning! Thanks for the new episode.
Really Interesting, really enjoyed this.
Hi Neil and Paul, from Waikato, NZ
I just knew you would say France, you can always rely on them.
Me too, and I'm French! ;)
21:30 here in Thailand. Hi Neil :)
You are the truth Neil, from coast to coast.
Love listening to you…love your stories ❤
What a country you have! You are so lucky.
In China monks set time for prayers and their regularity. (976 AD first mechanical clock invented by Yi Xing a monk). Greenwich was used because of the British Empire really. I think it's great that it's something not even the most petty woke fool can't take away - they who want to take all away that Britain accomplished but add nothing, the empty vapid vessels.
The invention wasn't the mechanical clock. It was a usable marine chronometer -- a clock that wouldn't drift and have error accumulate over a long period of time, when on a moving ship rocking in the ocean. ( The story of the prize for it is a bit... special: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrison#H4 )
So VERY eloquent!❤
Brilliant as usual
Wonderful.
Some quibbles: Why didn't Neil mention John Harrison's first clock H1 for the Longitude contest, which runs and is displayed at Greenwich - it's quite a sight to see: a very strange looking contraption. John Harrison's subsequent H2, H3, and H4 are there too, though H4 is kept non-running to preserve it. James Cook actually carried and tested a copy of John Harrison's H4 watch, called K1, during his voyage to observe the 2nd Transit of Venus; as well as on his third voyage.
The battle for Montreal was fought on the Plains of Abraham (not Heights).
Love it 😍
Very good Neil, cheers
Neil Oliver national treasure..
I learn so much from your channel
Are you aware of Edward Fitzgerald?
Richard Vobes interviewed him about his new book "Smoke & Mirrors" A compendium to your undoubted and unalienable rights!! Right up your street as his book is a call to action and giving historical perspective to our Constitution
I've just realized that 3 of the 4 countries I have lived in have the same longitud, Great Yarmouth UK, Lagos Nigeria, and Almeria Spain!! All pretty much one or the other side of the greenwich meridian!!
I've always understood the GMT, but how come Australia celebrates the New Year first?
Neil. You didn't mention the John Harrison Lesser watch. All have heard of this and know it well, Del and Rodney found this in their lockup. A very important find indeed.
Hey Neil, never mind "Love letters... ". I think you should rename them to "Lifelines for the British Islanders" instead. Love these.
Absolutely brilliant.

I'd just like to add " Bombay bamboy" pot noodles are nothing like they were 10 yrs ago .
Can you do here what you do on gb news in addition to your love letters to the Isles? I can't watch gb news its full of adverts. Thanks for your content.
It’s all designed that way so you have doubts about your thinking your future your whole existence, to sow doubt in everything you do !
Even the Nazi's couldn't knock him down !
How interesting Neil, I never knew the full story. Thank you.
