  • A very unusual storm traveled along the east coast heading north wreaking havoc with high winds and ocean surges. I went out to investigate our beaches here on Oak island, NC at the height of our storm. They estimate the wind gusts from 40-50mph when I went out around 1:00 on December 17, 2023. It was 2 hours past high ride when I went out. It was crazy and I mean crazy. Tropical storm like in December. Very unusual. Our beaches will sustain damages, I just hope not too bad. I'm a professional so don't do what I did. It's why they call me Adventure Steve.

This storm flooded my area down here in Weeki Wachee Florida. Luckily it receded at my door threshold. Only a few shop vacs of water and we were done. Neighbors around me weren't so lucky. Some were just finished from the hurricane. Stay safe Steve

Two hours after high tide yet the water isn't going out. Wind driven water into the coast won't let the tide recede. We had gusts to over 50mph up here in Greenville, NC and we're well inland. And yes, this storm was unprecedented for December!

It was an odd occurence for sure. I saw the tidal prediction at Springmaid Pier calling for a 9.9 ft tide, and I was skeptical, but since we just had a new moon, and with strong east winds, I figured they might be right. Yesterday, they adjusted the forecast to 8.4 ft, and I thought "that's more like it" Well, at high tide it crested to 8.2 ft, and I figured that was it. But an hour later, it was at 9.7 ft. Fortunately it didn't go any higher, it stopped short of entering the downstairs of the house. So other than a bunch of dead marsh grass in the yard, not much of a mess to clean up.

Good Lord, you were lucky. I think we faired pretty good here on the island, I haven't heard any real damage reports. Probably within a week we'll get snow, tornado warnings and and a couple 87 degree days. Winter in the Carolina's, you gotta love it.

This just in..... crazy man in Frogg Togg swept out to sea during rare winter storm. Adventure Wifey stands on the beach shaking her head because " she told him so" as officials comb the area in a grid search. The man, who identifies himself as "Adventure Steve", is known amongst locals as being nuts however these recent developments come as a shock to none of them. We will be back with more as this story develops.

The weather channel needs to fire Jim Cantori and hire Adventure Steve. Gotta admire a guy who goes out in weather like this and admits he ain't got a lick of sense in front of at least 8 people. Woooooo.
    H8ful out.

Notice that the beta you are referring to is always somewhere where he can take quick cover for safety. And he has a crew of 15. Adventure Steve confronts the raw elements solo. Adventure Wifey is nearby in case she needs to call 911 or I need a sammich. Weather Channel can't afford me.

You know somethings just not right when you're able to surf fish, and you're still downtown.
    Hope things dry-out soon.

There's never a dull moment around here Chief. It would have been interesting to throw a chunk of bait in those waves with a real heavy weight to see if anything happens. The seagulls were busy picking stuff off the top of the waves. In a couple days it will be like nothing happened.
