  • This video is my review after purchasing this 2018 Titan XD Pro 4x to pull my current travel trailer (East to West Della Terra 312BH) at roughly 9,500 lbs. I made the switch to this truck from a 2014 Platinum F-350 Diesel. I was looking to gain better ride quality, and better reliability to go with it.

    I bought a 2018 SV Crew Cab about 4 months ago with 120,000 miles on it. Got a great deal, and I was incredibly fond of my ‘05 Titan that kinda proved the brand/model to me. I couldn’t be happier with the newer model. We recently drove to Vegas from Amarillo, Texas and we averaged 22.3 mpg with a very comfortable ride. America has been sleeping on the Nissan Titan and, sadly, 2024 is the end of the line.

      @@texastrashman8325 I agree. It is a great reliable, and comfortable truck. I think if Nissan would have upgraded the technology/infotainment, and marketed the truck more it could have had the potential to sell many more units and stay in production.

    I had a very similar set up, I had the same truck ( I’ve had several Titans, currently a 2022 Frontier) towing a 36’ coachman over 9500lbs, never had an issue, smooth tow handled it like pro.
    I used Reese weight distribution bars, would never have towed without it!
    Titan is a very underrated truck and a little disappointed they cancelled it!

    Towing on US 395 wasn't fun my first time but I learned. Frequent manual shifting is key, up AND down steeps. On long uphills I leave it in 2nd with rpm around 5200 and 55mph. Use the magic of 4 valve V8. After watching a tear down on the 'I Do Cars' channel, I realized that I could leave it in 2nd for years without harm to the engine with regular oil service. Non towing applications is where these get really fun, especially off-road or snow. Pro4X leather is stout and a must have; the fabric seats in Titans are terrible. Service the paint regularly, the clear coat is not good if you slack on it. Now that the V8 is dead, the plan is to be buried in this truck; I'll rebuild at 250K and paint when needed. But I'm not dumping the best V8 I've ever owned for anything produced today

      If I had a barn, I'd buy a dozen pre 2016s. For a young man with some skills and friends, you can pick up a relatively low mileage truck, but with bad paint or something else an off-roader wouldn't mind, for $3K. Just be absolutely sure about the engine and trans and bomb the thing out; suspension, brakes, wheels, lights 1000W amp

    Insightful video! You covered important stuff, and your opinion carried weight with me because you were coming from an F350 diesel. That said, the true test of diesel vs gas is in the mountains. I totally understand getting away from the HD diesel truck for better ride quality. In flat central FL you may not have any issues, but if you find yourself traveling in the western US pulling 8% grades for miles on end, I'm a little curious how the 5.6 would handle it? Not trying to being negative, just pointing out issues for anyone who might making a truck purchase decision. Thanks for an intriguing video.

      The Titan XD still uses independent front suspension as apposed to the superduty solid front axel. I believe that is why it rides so smoothly. It is actually even smoother ride once it is fully loaded up with family and trailer. My superduty rode like a brick all the time loaded or unloaded didn’t matter. The best I ever got my superduty to ride was when I had a pallet of concrete mix bags in the bed at about 3600 lbs 🤣

    What kinda MPG you getting daily driving without towing anything?

    • @bubbaschannel0310

      @@codyharris9247 depends on the type of driving but typically between 17-19 on the highway depending on the speed, and 14-15 around town.

    Which Andersen Chain hitch do you have?

    • @bubbaschannel0310
      @bubbaschannel0310  4 месяца назад +1

      It is the Anderson Weight Distribution hitch. Rated up to 16,000 lbs.

      @@bubbaschannel0310 Sounds good! Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to check it out. I'm towing a 30ft toy hauler with a Reese Steadi Flex and I don't think it's doing the job. Also, towing with an F150 that just gets thrown around by any little wind so you got me looking at an XD gasser now. haha.

      I swear by that hitch after using a couple different spring bar design hitches. Just check out Andersons website and they only have one option for weight distribution. Very pleased with mine, and very pleased with the truck. I am a lifelong Ford fan, but the F-150 just not quite enough for this trailer, and my F-350 rode like a brick loaded or not. This XD rides like a dream.

    What’s your payload on the xd?

      @@byronlocklear91 I have had four previous F150’s and not really had any towing complaints, but I also did not tow this heavy with them either. I will say I like towing with this XD much better than I did with my F-350 for sure 100%. Ride quality is not even close.

    Diesel is the only way to go. The 5.0 is far better at heavy loads. Sure the gasser will be a bit quicker but it screams waaaay too high and eats gas. The torque with the diesel is far more solid and easily felt.

    • @bubbaschannel0310
      @bubbaschannel0310  4 месяца назад +5

      Yes, but the diesel in these trucks is proving to be on the unreliable side with parts hard to get ahold of. For reliability reasons I wanted the gas motor. It really only screams if I am in a hurry. I came from a 6.7L Powerstroke F350 and was ready to go back to gasoline motor. I specifically did not want the diesel option in this platform.

    • @bubbaschannel0310
      @bubbaschannel0310  3 месяца назад +3

      Managed 8.9 mpg on my most recent on the way down, and 8.4 mpg on the way back. My diesel F-350 managed about 10.5-11 mpg with this tailer so with the difference in diesel cost over gasoline it is really a wash.

      The diesel is only a good option if you plan on a delete.

      @@jaywhite1850 agreed, I would only consider one if I was planning to delete it, but still didn’t want to fool with it. The towing MPG is a wash with extra cost of maintenance and the extra cost of the diesel fuel anyway. I wanted the reliability of the gas motor.
