The VI is actually a 440 model with steel nib and no Touchdown.

Great demonstration , Doug. I have the 440XG, with a 14k nib, looks just like that nib on the VI. Mine came with a Sheaffer cartridge. One of my favorite vintage pens. Thanks. KB

What a great expertise you exhibit! Box-o-pens is slated to be mailed 7/15/24, while I enjoy being in the O R for some surgery fun and frolic!

Another nice resurrection video Doug. Too bad about the Imperial Ii. Maybe you could find a replacement barrel sometime in the future. I do love the way the Imperial and diamond inlay nibs write, I have one or two Sheaffers with them myself.

If you can pull off the nib from the Mark II and use it on another Sheaffer, at least you will have a good spare. How to remove it, I don't know. I never tried with an inlaid nib.
Overall it is certainly a success, Doug. One is working very nicely and one is for the parts bin for later use in some fashion, if you can get the nib off or find another Touchdown with the same color plastic or Frankenpen the pen.
I have found these restoration videos informative and fascinating.
Looking forward to the next one.

Thank you, Doug, for another fascinating video!
I've been watching for years and only now do I realize that those blue strips of fabric belong to an apron.
I guess I've always focused mainly on the exciting content. - btw: that hat still suits you very well!

As usual, nice video Doug. I've had some success repairing barrel cracks with UV glue. Long working time and it is possible to actually force glue into the crack. Then clean up before you Ser it with the light.

Last year I got an Imperial II Deluxe. The sac was totally crystalized and worse the sac protector was crushed. O-ring was also died. Anyway, I reshaped the protector and replaced the sac and the o-ring. Now it is my favourite pen. Sheaffers tubular nibs are really rigid due to its shape and thick material but also has very smooth writing and regular ink flow.

Your Roman numerals had me confused for a while when you said "four" at the beginning. 🤣

Nice video. I have a vintage Sheaffer Imperial in Sterling Silver from the 1960s. So far it's my only vintage pen. It has a diamond shaped inlaid 14K gold nib, fine,, fairly good flex on it. But it likes to choose its ink. I find that it likes the Iroshizuku Take-sumi and a cheap Chinese black ink. Does not like Platinum inks, and other Pilot inks with lighter colors. I haven't tried it with European inks yet. It lays down a very fine line, almost like a Japanese Fine, with average feedback. I like toying around with it, but I don't think I can take it apart like you do. More power to your channel.

Hi Doug, I think your Imperial VI may be an Imperial 440, the VI has a gold nib and the cap has a gold plated clip and a gold band at the bottom (very difficult to see in the black and white photo in your book). I think the sticker on the cap for the VI/440 is likely correct in that it most probably came from an Imperial ii, as the caps are very similar and it was probably a replacement for the original. I just picked up several Sheaffer's from a gentleman over the weekend and I've found the photo gallery of Sheaffer pens on the Payton street pens website quite helpful in identifying them, though they don't have capped and uncapped photos which is unfortunate.

Hi Doug, it came to my mind to "attack" cracks on the barrel from the inside if possible by using a small paint brush or a cotton swab (maybe not ideal) with shellac instead of glue from the outside?

I’ve just today purchased a bottle of Captain Tolley’s Creaping Crack Cure. Sounds like snake oil but it might work.

Have you tried using UV resin on those cracked barrels? That should be an easy, long-lasting fix.

Regarding CA glue: what kind of glue would be appropriate to repair cracked barrels?

Though I don't like the name, I do love the way Imperials write, and the whole aesthetic, really. Lovely job on the succes-ful 😉 resto, and dashed bad luck on the other, Doug. Cracks are just a nightmare sometimes.
