H1 b is the biggest reason now (2023) companies don't hire these. They cannot legally declare it but the hassle of extra $4500 and two more weeks of waiting time is too much for companies to hire h1-b.
H1-b is dead. I suggest everyone interview with an h1-b to move elsewhere.
I have gotten immediate rejection when I answer that sponsorship question from companies I know had no objection pre-pandemic. But now if is a strict policy to not hire h1-b in most companies.
Also ... Do not say you will work remotely from NYC or California for US companies. It is a straight rejection.
Why will companies hire a remote person from NYC in when they can pay ⅔ the salary to a person in Vancouver.

Thanks for the thoughts. Do you have sources you can link for the H1B point you made? It will be helpful for other viewers to learn more.
I think it's true that hiring someone with less in Canada is preferred for companies, but I believe the "remote work" the application is referring to is working remotely within the US.

@@Justeen15 I wish I had evidence. This is speculative of my experience of the last 5 months of recruiting.
