    Make an alh outboard motor use a foot off of a Stern Drive and cut the top of the 90° gear housing and rotate it 180° so the shaft will be facing the rear instead of the front put a synchronous belt and COG gears on the motor and foot then get an outboard housing and cover everything up so it stays dry

    I have been contemplating doing a tdi swap into my 71 dodge van. The biggest obstacle I have found is the oil pan. The van is rear sump, and the TDI is too long to fit between the back of the hole in the floor and the front crossmember, and too tall to sit on top of the crossmember.
    But an old parts hauler that gets 20+ mpg would sure be nice.

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  3 месяца назад

      Ya the TDI is tall in front, most of my swaps have been easy with lifted solid axle vehicles

    • @fastinradfordable
      @fastinradfordable 3 месяца назад

      You can lay the vw engine sideways like a vanagon
      You just need vanagon oil pan.

    • @TDISwaps

    What kit or parts are needed to do this to my 02 dodge dakota 3.7

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  3 месяца назад

      Well it depends on the transmission, but TD conversions website makes all the adapters needed. tdconversions.com/products/vw-1-9-2-0l-tdi-to-jeep-4l-adapter-kit-manual?sca_ref=2282812.xcTsEMbSOW

    Well I managed to pick up a 2001 dodge Dakota (auto) with a 5.9l magnum engine (156k miles). I also managed to pick up a 2001 Auto VW Golf with the ALH with 282k miles.
    So this diesel swap of mine is just about to kick off here. Had a couple questions. I’ve never sold an engine/transmission before. Any idea how much you think that 5.9L magnum/trans. Combo is worth? Also the auto trans out of the VW was replaced about 80k miles ago. Any idea what it might be worth as well? Trying to recoup some of the cost of these vehicles👍
    I also wanted to ask about blow by on the Alh engine. When the vehicle is idling and I pull the oil fill cap and rest it on the oil fill home and it dances and eventually shakes it way off. Seemed a little concerning however this is my first VW. That being said it cold starts amazing. Fires right up with one cycle of the glow plugs without any issues. So I’m wondering if the “blow by” I see is actually something having to do with the vacuum pump being right here off the back of the cam perhaps. Ive read these diesels act differently from say a powerstroke or Cummins.

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  3 месяца назад +1

      Really depends on location, I got $1200 for the 5.9 and trans, I have seen a good Jetta auto go for as much as $1200. But those may be high numbers depending on supply and demand

      @ydocproductions5593 3 месяца назад +1

      That’s great to know thank you. I know it’s a different market here but that’s a great ball park to start from. Any idea on the “blow by” I’m experiencing?

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  3 месяца назад +1

      @ydocproductions5593 you can't measure blow by on a TDI because the vacuum pump is dumping vacuum into the engine so it's always going to be pushing air out. Blow by would be like blowing the dipstick tube out of the holder LOL.

    • @ydocproductions5593
      @ydocproductions5593 3 месяца назад

      @@TDISwaps That’s great to know thank you! I thought it was a problem LOL there’s a little bit of combustion gasses coming out too, but from what you’ve told me I don’t think it’s an issue. I also looked up your videos of the wiring harness and how to pull one off the vehicle and again, it’s extremely helpful.
      BTW, Glad you’re getting one step closer to having that Dakota back on the road.👍

    Less seals and hoses to go wrong.

      I could try it, I currently run pretty warm oil temps in the summer, I have seen as high as 275°F when I'm holding sustained 1300° EGTs, I know the coolant is warming the oil most of the time, but at some point I would think it's got to be keeping the oil from going over 300°

    Good morning buddy thanks for sharing your builds.
    What do ya think this engines output will be?
    I was concerned that an ALH wouldn’t have enough torque for my build was gonna go with a BHW. Now I’m thinking an ALH would be the engine to go with. Thanks buddy have an awesome day!
