Make an alh outboard motor use a foot off of a Stern Drive and cut the top of the 90° gear housing and rotate it 180° so the shaft will be facing the rear instead of the front put a synchronous belt and COG gears on the motor and foot then get an outboard housing and cover everything up so it stays dry
I have been contemplating doing a tdi swap into my 71 dodge van. The biggest obstacle I have found is the oil pan. The van is rear sump, and the TDI is too long to fit between the back of the hole in the floor and the front crossmember, and too tall to sit on top of the crossmember. But an old parts hauler that gets 20+ mpg would sure be nice.
Well it depends on the transmission, but TD conversions website makes all the adapters needed. tdconversions.com/products/vw-1-9-2-0l-tdi-to-jeep-4l-adapter-kit-manual?sca_ref=2282812.xcTsEMbSOW
Well I managed to pick up a 2001 dodge Dakota (auto) with a 5.9l magnum engine (156k miles). I also managed to pick up a 2001 Auto VW Golf with the ALH with 282k miles. So this diesel swap of mine is just about to kick off here. Had a couple questions. I’ve never sold an engine/transmission before. Any idea how much you think that 5.9L magnum/trans. Combo is worth? Also the auto trans out of the VW was replaced about 80k miles ago. Any idea what it might be worth as well? Trying to recoup some of the cost of these vehicles👍 I also wanted to ask about blow by on the Alh engine. When the vehicle is idling and I pull the oil fill cap and rest it on the oil fill home and it dances and eventually shakes it way off. Seemed a little concerning however this is my first VW. That being said it cold starts amazing. Fires right up with one cycle of the glow plugs without any issues. So I’m wondering if the “blow by” I see is actually something having to do with the vacuum pump being right here off the back of the cam perhaps. Ive read these diesels act differently from say a powerstroke or Cummins.
Really depends on location, I got $1200 for the 5.9 and trans, I have seen a good Jetta auto go for as much as $1200. But those may be high numbers depending on supply and demand
That’s great to know thank you. I know it’s a different market here but that’s a great ball park to start from. Any idea on the “blow by” I’m experiencing?
@ydocproductions5593 you can't measure blow by on a TDI because the vacuum pump is dumping vacuum into the engine so it's always going to be pushing air out. Blow by would be like blowing the dipstick tube out of the holder LOL.
@@TDISwaps That’s great to know thank you! I thought it was a problem LOL there’s a little bit of combustion gasses coming out too, but from what you’ve told me I don’t think it’s an issue. I also looked up your videos of the wiring harness and how to pull one off the vehicle and again, it’s extremely helpful. BTW, Glad you’re getting one step closer to having that Dakota back on the road.👍
I could try it, I currently run pretty warm oil temps in the summer, I have seen as high as 275°F when I'm holding sustained 1300° EGTs, I know the coolant is warming the oil most of the time, but at some point I would think it's got to be keeping the oil from going over 300°
I just switched to a ckra passat as my daily, now my alh jetta with a broken 5th gear sits in my drive taunting me to swap it into a f350! Probably i would use a nissan 6 speed manual or a vag dsg from some vw longitudinally mounted vehicle.
Good morning buddy thanks for sharing your builds. What do ya think this engines output will be? I was concerned that an ALH wouldn’t have enough torque for my build was gonna go with a BHW. Now I’m thinking an ALH would be the engine to go with. Thanks buddy have an awesome day!
I feel pretty comfortable running the stock ALH at 200 HP and 300 TQ, this has close to that maybe a little less, but that matches what the 360 V8 I took out made
@@TDISwaps oh man that’s awesome!! Perfect those are the numbers I was hoping for. Now to find a good donor car, low miles bad tranny. Can’t wait to see what you do next!! I see you have an aluminum coolant neck on the back of the head what is that off of? Thanks again!!!
Hey man would you consider building a ford ranger tdi swap for a trade? I have a 2012 Audi a3 tdi. I can send you pics and more info if you’d be interested
I like it! Love to see what goes into everything!
It's crazy I never thought I'd be this comfortable messing with these engines
I appreciate these videos so much man - you are really giving me the confidence to pursue this Tahoe swap I want to do.
It's taken a lot of years to get this comfortable working on these TDIs, I definitely like specializing on one platform and being able to master it.
wouldn't the tahoe be to heavy
@@ernestopiceno1507 should be lighter than his Dakota by 1000lbs
@ernestopiceno1507 this Dakota on 1 ton axles actually weighs more than a Tahoe lol. It's 5400 lbs with nobody in it
Sounds good brother. Im getting closer to testing mine. Ill post up on here and let you know when I do.
That's awesome man! And thanks for watching!
Let's go my jetta just got a hybrid vnt17 216s and shooting for 180whp need a 5spd 4runner donor so bad XD
Definitely!!!
1:14 music to my ears
I know I know haha, gotta try the single first though

Probably easier to do an alh inboard
@@AndrewMarsch they have Factory marinized VW
Bro 1.9 tdi has come stock with dual valve springs since 1993😂
I guess I have 3 then 😂
De-Lip your pistons !!!!!
I don't want to lower my compression anymore than necessary, high elevation kills my take off power

Ya the TDI is tall in front, most of my swaps have been easy with lifted solid axle vehicles
You can lay the vw engine sideways like a vanagon
You just need vanagon oil pan.
where do you get your internal parts from?
Mostly a combination of online stores, Cascade German, IDParts, Kerma just depends on price
What kit or parts are needed to do this to my 02 dodge dakota 3.7

Personally.
I would delete the oil cooler (oil heater)
Less seals and hoses to go wrong.
Deleted mine 13 years ago

Thanks for watching man! The aluminum necks came on manual ALH/BEW cars. There's a knock off one on AliExpress from China as well
Alh weight?
Just the engine weight? About 320-350 lbs I believe

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do swaps for customers yet, I hope to get to that point in a few years though
Completely understand keep up the work love your content
@ajpunton9821 tha ks for watching man!
Boat or jetski
That would be fun!
