Hi from an equally grey UK. Sunshine tends to spark my sewing creativity so I’m missing my mojo at the moment. The fabrics are lovely and they bring the sunshine back with all those fun florals. We don’t have rec rooms here, unless you’re rich. Houses tend to be much smaller and new builds are getting smaller still. It’s quite depressing. They do feel very squashed. Our 1970s houses had the most room and big windows for lots of lovely light for sewing. Now it’s all small rooms and windows to prevent heat loss etc. Sorry that was a bit of a diversion. Re the patterns, I have most simplicity and New Look but I also like Butterick. I think New Look used to be our cheapest patterns, but I always found them a bit large….especially the knit ones, which seemed to have been designed for wovens then unsuccessfully converted 😁. I do use Burda occasionally and the odd Burda magazine which we can get here from newsagents. I too love the older patterns, and often they fit me better (after adjusting for sizing which was different then). The illustrations always inspire me more, particularly compared to the new pattern photos on the Big 4 which I think are dire, and only give one view, often badly. Sorry for the rambling. I love your videos. They’re brightening up a gloomy autumn.
Yes, please! More construction videos! I’m coming back to garment sewing after many years away, and boy, have things changed! I’m newly semi-retired, using a Vintage Bernina 932 Record. I have SO benefited from your videos and your wealth of knowledge. I want to add a heavier-duty machine for sewing canvas and vinyl, so I would LOVE to see your Vintage Kenmore(s) since they are such good machines. Thanks again for helping me get back to where I want to be!!
Oh Viv, you crack me up! 😄😄 I also tell myself not to buy that fabric, or look at that sale, then I disobey myself as well! I also think buying fabric is sometimes exploring a different side of yourself - that a fabric may become a garment that is more elegant or more adventurous than you have worn before and that is a tantalising prospect. Re fave pattern companies - Very Easy Vogue gets my vote as I find the fit is good on my frame and the instructions are always clear and easy to follow. Thanks for a fun video. Keep on sewing!
First of all, I watch your channel for you and your fun personality. I don’t care if you are upstairs, in the rec room or anywhere else. Your enthusiasm for sewing is contagious. Love all your new fabrics and can’t wait to see your makes with them. Can’t wait for construction videos. Love them. I agree with you about Simpllicity patterns, they are always my first choice
Since I started sewing again I’m obsessed with patterns and fabric. Just looking at them gives me a lot of pleasure. I love your videos and your natural, down to earth attitude. I don’t care if you wear a prison dress or your jammies, it’s you that is important. I like New Look and Simplicity patterns. Haven’t tried Vogue yet. I recently made a top by Butterick, I didn’t enjoy sewing it, I won’t use the pattern again. It fitted but i donated it to a charity shop. It’s all good fun though isn’t it?
Wow! I haven’t heard Rec Room in years! Growing up we had a Rec Room too, with a big Sears record player, 8 track system etc… listening to the BeeGees and my Mom loved Neil Diamond. Those were the good ole days - No phones or WiFi !!LOL Loved all your fabric. I have always had lots of fabric, like you said “It makes us Happy!!” Looking forward to your next video!
Never thought much about it before. I have about 80% more SIMPLICITY patterns. Their directions are so easy to follow and the most reliable. I don't want to play the guessing game with a pattern. I want to enjoy the whole process and have a garment I will love and wear.
I feel like we are just a couple of friends enjoying an afternoon conversation about patterns and fabric in just such a soothing laid-back atmosphere. You relate awesomely with your viewers in such a non-scripted, relaxed way. So real, so enjoyable.
Yes...we called it the rec room. You've been up close to the red sofa for years...so you know what's wrong with it. From my perspective it looks lovely! I don't have a favorite brand of patterns. When I saw the last fabric you pulled out, I nearly salivated....it's GORGEOUS! But that's your style! Love you, Vivmom! ❤
I used to deliver Mail and this wonderful family on my route would often leave me treats-like leftover candies from Easter or Trick-or-Treat. And I could never understand how anyone could have leftover candy! Total anathema to me! LOL! KwikSew are my favorite patterns. Basic, never.out of style, great instructions (sometimes cutting edge instructions!)
Love floral fabric! Im a fabric junkie, fanic gives us so many options to create! I'm an old school pattern collector also, think old butterick followed by mccalls then vogue. Not a new pattern fan, I feel most of what comes out now has been done in some fashion before so customizing is queen! Love you channel! Glad your kitty is doing better!
Dear Vivmom . I remember growing up and the ladies just loved having what was call a bed jacket for those times that you lounged in bed and it was chilly in the morning or you didn’t want to wear a full robe in warmer times. I enjoy watching you so much and the vintage patterns so fun. Keep on keeping on my friend .
Love your beautiful fabrics! I've been away from sewing for many years, though I sewed a large part of my wardrobe from age twelve through my teens! Getting ready to jump in for myself and things for our grands. Simplicity has been my fave followed by Buttermilk. And yes, we had a rec room our kids loved when they were quite young!💖
My favorite patterns are Simplicity. Luv your fabric choices. As for your dress that you are wearing as long as you are comfortable it should not matter.
I agree about Etsy too, crazy. I won’t even look at fabric on Etsy, not because of the price but the listing things at half a yard is just too much trouble.
you look so great!!!, that first fabric is so perfect for a sleeveless dress and I think you would wear it so much. I sewed a cowl neck and a dress without a pattern.
Hi Viv, I just watched your video, so I looked in my pattern boxes and found that I have quite a variety of patterns. I probably have the most Simplicity, Butterick and New Look. I'm always so inspired to sew when I watch your videos and I to am a fabric collector. Lately, I've been collecting fabric from Fabric Mart. Regarding patterns - I have owned a Lutterloh Pattern system for many years, so I'm into making my own patterns from it as I have such a hard time fitting myself with the Big 4. The Lutterloh books have been sitting on my shelf for years. This is the first time I have really used them. So far so good. I am inspired again to sew for myself. I have finally had some fitting success. Makes me HAPPY! Vicki
I like your gray dress, which looks comfortable. Your new fabrics will make nice looking clothing. I like older sewing patterns versus the newer variety. Mine usually center around 1980-2000. My newest pattern was recently purchased at Joanne and it is a jumpsuit that will have the legs modified to a comfort leg width instead of slender. I wore a red jumpsuit in the 80's that had the comfort leg width and it was so comfortable. Red is my favorite color so I have some material to make a jumpsuit later. My favorite sewing pattern is Vogue. I like McCalls and Butterick patterns too since they have the styles I adore and they fit my body without too many alterations to the pattern. Thank you for sharing and happy sewing!
Hi Viv! Love your videos. As far as the big 4, Simplicity is my favorite. At this time, I'm sewing with a few Cashmerette patterns because the fit, for me, is fantastic! 😊❤👍
Rec Room, yes , I heard that all the time.! Love the fabric!. Those bright colors are delightful. I've been drawn to those warm shades lately too! Reminds me of McCartney's Coming up like a flower. Those yoke pants..you could make the yoke out of a stretchy fabric like spandex or a wide elastic type fabric and it would lay flatter. Patterns look comfy and when they have full wardrobe nice extra. My fav. Was the dress with or without ruffle though. Less ruffles use less fabric though 😄.
Great fabric! Buying fabric and sewing are two separate hobbies 😂! It will be fun to see what you make. I don’t have a favorite pattern company yet. 🤔 Have a lovely day!
Hello I love your channel I’m a beginner so I love tilly and the buttons patterns and simplicity is a close second I live in New Jersey so I have to pay for shipping but Tillys patterns come with a book of instructions with pictures lol this week hubby and I are on vacation in Vermont the foilage is beautiful last night I spotted a fabric store .😝😍🥰 they were closed but I will try again today ..happy sewing
I love love love those fabrics!!! Can’t wait to see what u make. First we called our room a Rec room or family room. Yes fabric is very addictive. I love feeling it in my fingers and dreaming what it will become. Just gets those creative juices flowing. Patterns do the same thing. I’ve been sewing for 50 years. It’s just plain FUN
I, like you, buy Simplicity more than any other brand. I love the floral fabric with the dots. I do mixed media art and took screen shot of this fabric to make a background similar to it.
Mine is also Simplicity, New Look. Gosh I made a McCalls pattern recently and I couldn’t understand the collar instructions, so I followed your example and called the help line, yeah “No Help” lol. You are so inspiring, Thank you Viv!! Cathy
First of all love smarties. Use to be my favorite candy, but i think i burnt out on them. I too love simplicity the best. I think they are the best fitting and the most current looks.
Favourite patterns are Simplicity, then Vogue (Very Easy ones), then Butterick. Currently working on V1634 (wish me luck 🤞) I agree with you about Etsy being horrendous for pattern purchases. Not sure who's in the market to pay those inflated prices. I grew up calling the basement space the Rumpus room. That's vintage for you!
Favourite pattern brand for me is Simplicity like yourself, followed by New Look. McCalls is always a challenge for me, sizing 😰instructions 🤔finished product 😫 ! Some lovely florals there, can’t wait to see your makes. X
Love your videos. You inspire me to consider fabrics I never even thought about before. I have watched a few old fabric videos and enjoyed seeing that fabric in one of your monthly makes. 😀 so fun.
Love the fabrics, we call those bed shrugs bed jackets in UK. Often useful if your sat up in bed to keep your shoulders warm. I am pleased I am not the only one that has house dresses.
Vivian, I LOVED your Rec Room Video. I remember rec rooms. . . The lighting looked fine to me. And you should be able to wear whatever you want around the house!! Be comfortable. I have recently organized my patterns into drawers like they do at the fabric stores. I noted that I have loads more Simplicity than anything else. Next is Butterick, then McCalls and things like Vogue and Burda. A regular (letter sized) file cabinet holds two rows perfectly of all but the McCalls. They are just a bit too wide, but I made some drawers for them in one of my cupboards. I think the shrug on 3569 Simpliity is to wear over the little tank top to keep your arms warm until you go to bed. It is kind of unusual. Maye it came out when shrugs were getting popular a few years back. I just love your videos. . . . I think that you have a great shape! Long legs, great arms and shoulders, pretty smile, sparkling eyes and lovely hair. No, I am not gay!! I've been married for 41 years to the love of my live. I just think that you look great and shouldn't apologize for anything. I'm kind of glad you don't have a tiny waist, because it makes you a real person. You pronounced :"challis" correctly. (shallee). Some day I am going to get over to Pennsylvania and visit Fabric Mart. It is on my bucket list. Now that hubby is retired, we can start planning! Thanks for all the great videos. They are just right for me! Kathy B. P.S.. I really like cutting out now, although I didn't used to when I started sewing. Now, I will cut out five or six outfits and then sew. I put them in an individual plastic "shoe-box" after cutting, along with the pattern and then go on to the next. when I have five or so shoe-boxes, I start sewing.
My Favorite pattern brand is Simplicity. I think my mom steered me to them back in the day. She always told me they were easier to understand. 🤷♀️🤷♀️😁 I still like them. Btw.. loved all of your fabric but, my most favorite of all was the first one you showed us.
Hi Viv👋 Lovely to see you, as always. I appreciate your skill to make an older pattern suitable for persons of any age🤗 I am in the early stages of learning pattern fabric combinations. Thankyou for sharing🤗 Regards to you and your family🙏
I love buying fabric… I need NO fabric… I’m waiting for a box from Olga’s closet! I seem to really like Sinclair Patterns and Love Notions Patterns, but hate printing and assembling them. Sinclair has height files, which I love as I am tall. New Look is my next favorite 🤩
Yep Rec Room! Love the rayon challis with the pink flowers! (my mother always said shall-lee). You are so entertaining! You brighten this gloomy day😎☀️
After 30 years of sewing big loose kaftans, I believe soft flowy fabrics like medium-weight challis or something like their texture are the best. Also, I see a lot of simplicity patterns like the ones you like at my local salvation army, 3 for 99 cents and one for 50 cents at another charity store. My local charity stores are old and new pattern treasure troves.
Love the twin set....and the ruffle!!!! Simplicity and style arc (Australia company). I am plus size and the style arc have mutli size patterns so it is easy to get a good fit! They also have some creative designs.
Gorgeous fabrics! I grew up saying both “Rec room” and “family room” depending on the day of the week! 😉 I don’t really have a favorite pattern company. I just buy patterns I like, and it turns out to be a mixed bag. Love your videos!
I had so much fun watching this episode, Viv! I don’t think I’ve “talked” to my I-pad screen as much and laughed! Ok, here goes…Yes, we called our finished basement a “rec room” (I was born in ‘56 and my Dad had our basement finished in 1963; Although I can’t say gray is your color, I do appreciate a comfortable dress and no matter what, you should wear it!; I love the lavender ombré sweater set you created using two separate patterns. Combining patterns to make “Frankenstein” garments is a favorite technique of mine. I love sweater sets, too! (Remember, I’m a product of the 50’s and 60’s! ; I love challis as much as you do, it seams, but it is frustrating to go on a site and find they have no “challis” only to discover that they’ve named it something else! As if fabric shopping on-line wasn’t difficult enough (I’m a pretty tactile gal.); I envy you for all your wonderful treasures (aka, vintage patterns.). My favorite? Mom always was a Vogue pattern seamstress, but I have to say I was Butterick/McCall’s girl until things started to change in the Big 4 pattern industry. Now it’s mostly Simplicity! ❤️
I just ordered pattern Simplicity #9139 version of your prison dress😂 hopefully the spring yellow and orange plaid will give it some life for me! Love your channel!
i think if your dress is comfy and you like to wear it around the house that’s great! Have been sewing about a year after being away from it for 25 years(Lol, I’m aging myself) and need to sew more to find my favorite patterns brand 😊
Love that print in the thumbnail Viv. Really suits you. Thanks for the chatty video it was much enjoyed here in the grey but warm UK. I don't like the big four! Sorry, it's mostly the tissue paper but also the direction that assume one has been sewing since around 1821! My favourite patterns are the Tilly and the Buttons and I'm lucky enough to live near Guthrie and Thank ( take a peek at the website) Sewing in the UK is more expensive I feel. I would love JoAnnes to open up over here! Looking forward to seeing your make xx
I love anything flora fabric. It draws me towards it. LOL. I love older patterns. I love going to my local op shop. I get them there so cheap. Most not even cut. My favorite patterns are New Look and Simiplty. They fit me better. Vogue and Burda patterns are just so hard to follow for me.😏
Hi Viv, after watching your videos, I must say that most of the fabric I buy is floral too! I only have a small number of patterns but most of them the big 4. I finally finished off a Vogue Katherine Tilton top, but I had to take it in twice as the shoulders were way off (and I’m quite broad shouldered). However, the finished article was worth all the faff! I’ve just cut out a Style Arc Kim Swing top as Joy always looks great in hers, so hopefully it will be straightforward. Thank you for showing your lovely flowery prints and I look forward to seeing what you make. Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧💕😊
I love sewing. I do both clothing and quilting. And yes, I have twice the amount of Simplicity as of any other patterns. I love your videos and watch every one of them.
The ditsy and girl power prints are gorgeous! Love the Simplicity dress pattern too! I do not have a favorite pattern brand. I miss Simplicity and wish it was still available in Canada.
WOW!!! Construction videos again. Three cheers 🎉🎉🎉
When I was young my mother told me, keep something long enough, it will come back in style! There you go.
Hi there mom, great to see you in this new year. Looking forward to watching what you have in store for the coming months.
@11:38, so pretty. I'm a sucker for florals. @12:33, another beauty. In fact, your entire fabric haul is lush.
“I immediately ignored myself” oh my you make me laugh so much
Never thought much about it before. I have about 80% more SIMPLICITY patterns. Their directions are so easy to follow and the most reliable. I don't want to play the guessing game with a pattern. I want to enjoy the whole process and have a garment I will love and wear.
Definitely Simplicity. I find them so straight forward.
I feel like we are just a couple of friends enjoying an afternoon conversation about patterns and fabric in just such a soothing laid-back atmosphere. You relate awesomely with your viewers in such a non-scripted, relaxed way. So real, so enjoyable.
I totally agree, Viv is a delight 😊
Yes...we called it the rec room. You've been up close to the red sofa for years...so you know what's wrong with it. From my perspective it looks lovely!
I don't have a favorite brand of patterns.
When I saw the last fabric you pulled out, I nearly salivated....it's GORGEOUS! But that's your style! Love you, Vivmom! ❤
I so love it when you go shopping! Some beautiful fabrics in there!
Love floral especially the large ones. Love your patterns. Looks like lots of fun. ❤🤗
I'm partial to simplicity grew up on them. Fabric haul fabrics very lovely.
Viv, I totally agree with you about your favorite sewing pattern brands. I loved watching you video, so good to see you again!!! Judy
My favorite patterns are Simplicity. Luv your fabric choices. As for your dress that you are wearing as long as you are comfortable it should not matter.
Beautiful material!!!! Can’t wait to see what you make.🤗
Beautiful fabrics, looking forward to seeing all of it made! Simplicity pattern, I do enjoy sewing on knits!
Thank you what I like about the big four is you get more than one pattern in the pattern keep on vlogging I so appreciate you
Viv, you are a breath of fresh air! I love old patterns too! They just resonate. That first pattern is so adorable.
I agree about Etsy too, crazy. I won’t even look at fabric on Etsy, not because of the price but the listing things at half a yard is just too much trouble.
Very much looking forward to your construction videos!! 😊
I love buying fabric. I am always talking myself out of purchasing so much
you look so great!!!, that first fabric is so perfect for a sleeveless dress and I think you would wear it so much. I sewed a cowl neck and a dress without a pattern.
Fabric brings out my creativity and it makes me happy.
Gorgeous, gorgeous challis all around - rayon is my favorite and I love me a ditzy print!
Your background looks lovely. Always enjoy your videos, thank for taking the time to involve your subscribers in your sewing ventures
Wow, I love that off the shoulder top! And that pj pattern. I could use that for round the house wear!!

I love flowers myself so all the fabrics you brought were a hit. I believe all the patterns were a hit as well.
I love your pattern and fabric hauls. Thank you!
I like your gray dress, which looks comfortable.
Your new fabrics will make nice looking clothing.
I like older sewing patterns versus the newer variety. Mine usually center around 1980-2000. Live all the fabrics. My fav pattern company is.. well a toss between Simplicity & Butterick.
I love your Couch 🛋
Simplicity and then New Look patterns are my favorites.
Sooo good to see you! Glad your holiday was great and family are doing well. Love your counter book! Cant wait to see your makes❤
Enjoyed your fabric. The more you show us, the less we have to buy ourselves!!!
WAIT?! You mean I don't have to buy every gorgeous fabric she shows us? 🤨 what a novel idea. 😁😁😁😁
Great fabric! Buying fabric and sewing are two separate hobbies 😂! It will be fun to see what you make. I don’t have a favorite pattern company yet. 🤔 Have a lovely day!
I'm like you Viv I love the old patterns too. Great video and I like your reck room. The place where memories are made.
Can’t wait to see what you make!! I don’t know how to sew, yet. But, I am preparing to. I would love to have an iced tea with you😘
I love love love those fabrics!!! Can’t wait to see what u make. First we called our room a Rec room or family room. Yes fabric is very addictive. Don't worry your room looks lovely and colourful and well loved I'm sure.
“I can’t have nice things.” I laughed out loud, you are a breath of fresh air this morning. Thank you for the posts.
Another lovely video! I love your fabric choices, as always.
Mine is also Simplicity, New Look.
Gosh I made a McCalls pattern recently and I couldn’t understand the collar instructions, so I followed your example and called the help line, yeah “No Help” lol.
You are so inspiring,
Thank you Viv!!
Cathy
I like that dress youre wearing as a top. I haven't seen what the dress looks like, but I like what is shown in this video.
First of all love smarties. Use to be my favorite candy, but i think i burnt out on them. I too love simplicity the best. I think they are the best fitting and the most current looks.
Yes fabric is addictive! When I go to a quilting store my head spins and I feel giddy with the colors, patters, and ideas that swarm my brain!
Favourite patterns are Simplicity, then Vogue (Very Easy ones), then Butterick. Currently working on V1634 (wish me luck 🤞) I agree with you about Etsy being horrendous for pattern purchases.
Hi Viv👋
Lovely to see you, as always.
I appreciate your skill to make an older pattern suitable for persons of any age🤗
I am in the early stages of learning pattern fabric combinations.
Thankyou for sharing🤗
Regards to you and your family🙏
Butterick, Simplicity, Vogue, Malls and Love Notions
Beautiful fabric! Looking forward to Oct makes❤
You are simply wonderful!
You brighten this gloomy day😎☀️
Beautiful choice of fabrics Viv. You have such great taste. Lovely to see you. Look forward to your videos. Xo
I spotted those smarties right off, I love them
I had so much fun watching this episode, Viv! ❤️
That new look shirt would be so cute with a pair of your cropped pants and a jacket
My favorite patterns are Simplicity. I have better luck with their directions. Love your videos.
Love new old patterns ❤
I just ordered pattern Simplicity #9139 version of your prison dress😂 hopefully the spring yellow and orange plaid will give it some life for me! Love your channel!
My favourite pattern brand seems to be Kwik sew. In my younger days I liked McCalls or any of the big 4 . Vogue was a treat as it was so pricey.
i think if your dress is comfy and you like to wear it around the house that’s great! Have been sewing about a year after being away from it for 25 years(Lol, I’m aging myself) and need to sew more to find my favorite patterns brand 😊
Love all the fabrics.
Love all of your fabrics.
I really like the 5588 pattern. And those fabrics are beautiful!
Love that print in the thumbnail Viv. Really suits you. Thanks for the chatty video it was much enjoyed here in the grey but warm UK.
I don't like the big four! Sorry, it's mostly the tissue paper but also the direction that assume one has been sewing since around 1821!
My favourite patterns are the Tilly and the Buttons and I'm lucky enough to live near Guthrie and Thank ( take a peek at the website)
Sewing in the UK is more expensive I feel.
Vogue and Burda patterns are just so hard to follow for me.😏
Oh yay , construction videos! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Viv, I am with you as far as Simplicity followed by New Look.
vogue vogue vogue..love it! oh ya 1990"s Butterick classic patterns
What a nice haul!!! Can’t wait to see what you make :) you inspire me…starting easy-pajama pants for my grandkiddos!!!
My favorite brands are the ones I buy and store!
