I'd never actually thought of it but he makes a good point. For all the attempts at suppression and extermination Native Americans have endured ( and I'm not downplaying that) they can know their ancestry, if only from what reservation they lived on, or their family used to. To be clear the reservations weren't by choice, and weren't for the well-being of Native Americans.
Just want to clarify… Native Americans were put on reservations. Also, trying to survive without electricity and running water can put a damper on being connected to your ancestry.

I have said for YEARS that many of our problems regarding American culture started when we adopted the "hyphenization" - African-American, Italian-American, Latin-American, Asian-American etc. Pointing it out causes more division than it does promote ethic pride. I agree with him and with Polo - just use "American".
Really surprised to see another of my favorites show up here. Beau is far deeper than he may appear, and I've never heard him with a shallow, stupid take on anything. He's been unwell recently, best wishes and love for a full recovery. From the lighting, this is one of his very early videos. :)

But I still get looked at like I'm a part of the problem. I agree with you so much polo, I would call you a friend. We are all people from plant earth, period.
Beau of the fifth column is exceptional, this is a really good video for you to share, because there are a lot of us who actually understand the evil of the slavery this country participated in. And it wasn't just conservatives, the founding fathers were all liberals and a lot of them owned slaves as well. The difference between the Liberals/ founding fathers who own slaves and the conservatives who own slaves in the South and eventually being came Confederates is that we knew it was wrong. Jefferson knew slavery was wrong and yet he never freed his slaves and he had a relationship with Sally hemmings which could not be consensual because she was his property. And as brilliant as Jefferson was and as great of a liberal that he was, it's almost worse because he knew better. It takes more than 150 years to overcome slavery, especially when you factor in things like the KKK, Jim Crow laws, segregation, lynching and the incarceration of tens of millions of African Americans. After the end of slavery. They did it to keep them from voting. Emmett till is a perfect example of that. The courage of his mother to have an open casket to show what people were doing to young black Americans was a stepping stone towards being a better country. We still struggle to do that today. I've had a lot of these conversations with some of the people I've known in my life who were black. Because I'm always willing to have any discussion with any person to improve people's understanding of the world around them. Anyway, the point is civil rights did not end this year, and even during covid, the death rates amongst people were different based on their race. African Americans had three times the fatalities in the United States as Caucasians. Hispanics four times the rate. Native Americans five times the rate. And I guarantee you if I knew that information, so did the Trump administration. That's one of the reasons they didn't want to do anything about it. People like Steven Miller saw It as a way to purify our nation 's pigment issue in their eyes. It also came down to a factor of whether somebody had Access to healthcare. I would not have survived covid if I didn't have a well-paying job and a quality healthcare policy. I knew I was in distress so I called 911 and had them take me to the hospital. Yeah the ambulance ride was more expensive than I wish it was, and I didn't know if my insurance actually covered the ambulance, but I didn't want to drive to the hospital and risk killing someone because I was too weak to hold the brake pedal down. I have a Camaro and she likes to go whether I want her to or not. So I called 911 and had them take me to the hospital. About 4 MI. It was a $1,500 bill for 4 MI. That's privilege right there. And I grew up poor. My ex-wife and I worked hard together to escape poverty. We made it to middle class. We were doing really well. But then the divorce caused both of us to plummet into poverty again. What you said is a huge reason. So many African Americans fail to do so, the use of the Injustice system is one of the biggest reasons, putting young African-Americans in prison often on trumped-up charges, and I'm not going to say they don't commit crimes, but it isn't. The only reason African Americans spend time in jail is to diminish their voting rights and to keep them dirt poor so they will work for pennies on the dollar. Just enough to get by. I do understand that. Oh and it's a good thing. I did go to the hospital because a couple of days later I spent 16 days on a ventilator with a 1% chance of survival. Had to learn how to drink, eat, a few weeks later I learned how to stand and then I learned how to walk again. The one thing I am thankful for is that I only lost some of my memories and knowledge, I have four college degrees, and I remember most of what I was taught. If I would have lost all of that I wouldn't want to live. I'm still working up the strength to be able to do my podcast but it will be on a different channel than this, a new one, because I use this one to watch my favorite RUclips individuals like you. I do recommend three gen Z individuals, Harry sisson, Adam mockler and Luke Beasley. And a couple of really good. More experienced individuals and Brian Taylor Cohen and David pakman, they do a really good job of letting you know what is going on currently in American politics. I hope you're registered to vote because this election may be our last. If we don't win. I'm not being hyperbolic, again. I'm a historian, and economist and an expert on the Constitution, our democracy is in danger, and you could be a part of making sure that doesn't happen no matter where you live.
I don’t disagree with what he’s saying, but not every non-black person in the USA has that cultural heritage to draw on. With the intermarriage among races and the way people move away from family of origin, some people get cut off from their “roots” after a few generations. Like I say, I can see that the process of slavery ripped their heritage from the slaves. Others whose ancestors weren’t slaves simply threw their heritage away.
I understand what you’re saying but, as someone that loves looking into family history, non-black people have paperwork left and right to determine where their ancestors came from and what their names were. People that were kidnapped from Africa do not have that. For many decades there are no names but only descriptions of sex and age on slave schedules.
the cuisine parts made me remember my serbian grandparents used to feed us kavurma, their version of chitlins. didnt' have it again for years and years, but now i live in Detroit and you can find them in grocery stores. just wanted to share the memory. Beau is great, always like your videos, too. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this one with us, Polo. Eta: I hear you and agree about not taking up a victim role in life, but I think Beau was talking principally to white folk who could do with a bit deeper understanding. Not sure I agree with Morgan Freeman tho - I'd love it to be true, but I think there are people and institutions still promoting racism because they benefit from it in some way. Not sure that would change if we just stopped talking about it. Progress always has to push forward against the undertow, or chunks of history get erased, and advances get eroded away while you aren't looking.
Polo really nailed it about the removal of the father from the home and it was no accident (that's LBJ and crew fyi). As for Beau's take it's interesting and might be meaningful but plenty of us white guys have little to no connection with one country from our past. I didn't grow up with any celebration whatsoever of any of my European heritage and many of my friends could say the same. Edit: Polo is also right on about the negative effects of identifying as a victim. If you want to undermine someone's success/progress just get them to believe they're a victim.
Your comments are, as usual, enlightening. Avoidance of the victim mindset is wise. The fact we can always find someone with bigger problems than we have is so true. I see the kids and grandkids in my family shedding the racist parts of our family culture. But do not be naive. My grandfather thought things about black people that I will not repeat here, and so does my father. I have always just watched your Tool videos😂. This one is excellent as well! I will sample more of your channel.
It’s probably too much for you to react to but I think you would enjoy Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth series with Bill Moyer (based on your parting thoughts)

Ever notice how fast black folk talk? Rap? Music, sports: basketball, football, track, gymnastics, bodybuilding, martial arts, dance? Attorney-at-law, judgeships, acting, rollerskating, and armed forces? This demonstrated superiority generates a high fear factor.
I love to learn and I sure learned from this reaction. Polo, you are so well spoken. I suspect that's why you haven't experienced a high amount of racism. Is that fair for folks not as well spoken s you? Absolutely not, but I suspect that's part of it. Thanks for sharing. Keep educating us and making us think on a deeper level. Rock on 🤘!
I think anyone that is empathetic enough and puts in the time to educate themselves and to cultivate an honest opinion is coming from a good place and I respect their opinions. Whether I agree with them or not
Beau ...interesting, never thought of it like that. Polo you speak a lot of sense. To be honest though my wife is half Nigerian, adopted by an English white family...she is as English as they come. She has never felt the need to delve into her Nigerian heritage in the 48 years we have been married. 🇬🇧
The dude has a good foundation because he's willing to admit to himself that he doesn't know. That seems to be a difficult thing for a lot of people, which is unfortunate. When you think you know, you've closed your mind up. When you know you don't know, you create a starting point for the pursuit of knowledge. I've never had a good conversation with anyone who thought they knew everything about everything, every word they speak is a dead end.
I wish more people could be open minded and thoughtful like the you and the man in that video. Leave the hate at the door and try to have some understanding and find some common ground. Praying for healing in this country instead of the hate being spewed...especially with the election.
I have been a follower for a while. A lot of reaction videos have a "race" element (meaning a black person listening sometimes to traditionally white music). Glad to see you embracing that a bit, but always find it weird having white people telling what it means to be black, but I think we need to take this that his intended audience is white people.
I believe that Beau's intended audience is ALL people; he's quite talented at gently re-educating those who write in with something ugly to say about folks different than them (as they do from time to time) He always does it in a way that encourages learning, growth and understanding, not conflict.
There are plenty of whites whose only identity is AMERICAN. I have a rough idea of where my family comes from. But we have never lived a German or Nordic culture. Just saying 🤷🏻
It's a sadness that has leached into the fabric of society. But the Lord in all his wisdom had to give us free will and we were responsible for our actions. He gives us the opportunity to come unto him without pressure and know that you are accepted into his open arms and when you look at his hands and feet and see the scars of humility to save humanity. That's what we need to remember
I believe Beau was responding to a jerk thinking he was being cute about race. So this was him talking to racists who dismisses the reality. Always understanding what you have instead of looking at others you imagine have better is a solid mindset. ☮️
My adopted brother is very obviously Hispanic. He's amused when he gets pulled over by a cop. They do a double take when they see the very Anglo/Irish name on his license.

@@franciet99 No dispute about that.
Thanks. Beau's great.
I agree with you Polo.
the cuisine parts made me remember my serbian grandparents used to feed us kavurma, their version of chitlins. didnt' have it again for years and years, but now i live in Detroit and you can find them in grocery stores. just wanted to share the memory. Beau is great, always like your videos, too. Thanks!
We all have our journey in life. My motto is stroke on!
I've listened to Beau in the past, and respect his constant research and interest in many topics. I've mostly listened to his political commentary.
It is an attempt I respect.
Beau is the real deal. He does not play when speaking the truth.
Understanding is needed for healing
Thanks for sharing this one with us, Polo. Eta: I hear you and agree about not taking up a victim role in life, but I think Beau was talking principally to white folk who could do with a bit deeper understanding. Not sure I agree with Morgan Freeman tho - I'd love it to be true, but I think there are people and institutions still promoting racism because they benefit from it in some way. Not sure that would change if we just stopped talking about it. Progress always has to push forward against the undertow, or chunks of history get erased, and advances get eroded away while you aren't looking.
It’s African month, so Mr Polo, please listen to our Ndlovu Youth Choir singing Nessun Dorma
PLEASE PLEASE it’s beautiful
Much love Proudly South African 🇿🇦
Beau’s great! His wife Belle is too. I avoided his channel because of how he looked. I was so wrong about him.
I think this video is a great one to get people thinking!!
Do yup know what your European heritage is?
@@BlackGuardXIII There's a lot of countries in my background as well as ancestry that neither I nor my parents were aware of for many decades.
Great reaction.
Rock on 🤘!
Where did you come from, Cotton Eyed Beau? 😂 Damn Polo, that cracked me up!
I think anyone that is empathetic enough and puts in the time to educate themselves and to cultivate an honest opinion is coming from a good place and I respect their opinions. Whether I agree with them or not
Grandma just wants to dance 😺 with my cat. Maybe next time 😜 ✌️ Polo...
Worthwhile
the greatest indicator of success for a child is growing up in a two-patent household. period
Thank you for this. Excellent reaction
I agree with you Polo! Where are the fathers?
There are plenty of whites whose only identity is AMERICAN. I have a rough idea of where my family comes from. But we have never lived a German or Nordic culture. Just saying 🤷🏻
Beau is wonderful
