Ok we all know Whitney is the voice! But just how close can Glennis come to the legendary Whitney Houston?
Whitney will always have an edge on her fans, and I find that quite normal.
Since Whitney is already a legend, you can not make a comparison in advance.
The only thing you can do is to admit that GG is the only singer that you have in terms of voice

So if Nippy had come after GG, the only way I see people comparing her to GG is if Nippy did what GG is doing now. To be frank, I don’t know what GG true sound is.
Exactly! GG fans get upset when I point out this same issue about her. What exactly does she sound like? Every performance she is copying Whitney’s style. This is exactly why she hasn’t made it big in the US. I’m just not impressed with her! No doubt she can SANG but she lacks creativity and she also lacks stage presence. What I loved about Whitney is that she could turn a 3 minute song into a 10 minute song still make us want more. I can’t see GG doing that!

Glennis has a great mix of different Whitney eras. She obviously took better care of herself and thus her voice is maturing naturally and slowly. It's taking on a mix of qualities that we hear in separate stages of Whitney, due to Whitney's voice basically changing almost every single album. Glennis also seems to have greater ease in the upper belts too.
Other than that, I think Whitney had this in the bag. More resonant, much more agility, and a fantastic improv ability.
If you love Whitney, you should love Glennis. Just because she performs Whitney doesn't mean she's trying to replace her. If any of us had the voice to perform Whitney songs across the world, we'd do it in a heartbeat.

In terms of upper belting, yes Glennis is. But Whitney was also riffing and phrasing G#5s back in 80s and early 90s. Glennis seems like she’d be the more reliable one on any given day when it comes to upper belts though considering how full those belts are! Plus she recently belted several As in Titanium!
But it’s hard to say considering how much Whitney’s voice lowered so quickly. Had she not been doing drugs and especially didn’t smoke cigs for most of her life it’d be a different story. She’d have been belting and riffing those notes right now.
But as I said, Whitney had a more resonant voice, better head voice, MUCH MUCH better agility even in her later years, and she SANG DOWN her songs live, making them different every time she performed them. Her musical ear was just incredible. Glennis performs every Whitney song almost exactly as it is in studio which is much more straight forward because she can’t do the insane melisma. Glennis probably has the edge on low notes too.

@@ranmasaotome2876 Also Glennis is NOT a spinto soprano so she's not as powerful as Whitney. Not to mention Whitney's dynamic singing is unmatched. Saving all my love in Japan 1991 really shows Whitney's dynamic is the BEST for both chest and head voice.

Well to be fair to Glennis it’s hard to do a song someone owned. We are fans of the original. And she actually has a higher tesatura so her notes are not as full at D5 and up. She can sing MC songs cuz it’s higher.
But I honestly think Glennis did a lot of live performances better cuz her voice isn’t tattered and didn’t get used as much as Whitney.
They are both great singers in their own right and I don't like comparing them because they are each different...Great video though!

I love how Glennis can sing long steady notes and keep total control. You could argue that Whitney could do amazing runs during her live performances, and that that derives from her gospel background, but I sometimes had the feeling she HAD to, because she had difficulty keeping a long note steady. Glennis does those notes almost effortlessly. To me, Whitney, during the early years was one of a kind, but also think that if Glennis had been born in the States, she would have been a huge star with world fame. I love the sound of both ladies. Mathijs Beverloo You can hold notes for a long time, but you are either missing tone, soul, expression, creativity, and that star quality which is the ability to spell bound people to your voice. It’s one thing to impress crowds and keep them hype but it’s another when you can have people stare at you singing, hypnotized, in awe, and simply don’t have the ability to move anymore because of your voice.
Sweetie...Whitney’s live performances were NEVER ALIKE. Each one was different vocally. Glynnis has studied ONE WAY of singing Whitney’s live versions of her songs and does it verbatim. So perhaps Glynnis gets an edge for that but for originality and doing it first Whitney all the way.

Ok, here are my thoughts on this...first of all, I usually don't like videos like this, it's unfair for Glennis to battle an icon such as Whithey, who has created countless music hits, has an enormous fan base and is not with us anymore witch only adds to her iconic status. Don't get me wrong, I love Whitney so much 💖, in fact I think she is the greatest vocal talent ever to live! Yes, The Voice.
Even though I'm also a huge fan of Glennis and really love her to death 💖, I would always give advantage to Whitney. BUT, for this particular video, I can't say that. Glennis is just as good. And that is huge!
My overall oppinion is that no one can beat Whitney in her prime, but Glennis comes so close. She is vocally up there, but she is missing one thing that made Whitney so good and that is musicality in interpretation (not that she doesn't have it, but nowhere near Whitney). Maybe we would see it if she sang her own songs, written for her. But the right kind of songs, because honestly, her original songs don't fit her vocal or her music expression at all! She hasn't had luck to work with right people, that's all and kinda sad 😢.
On the other hand, Glennis seams to be in her never ending prime, in my oppinion she just gets better and better 💖💖💖!
I love them both, I just wish people would stop comparing Glennis to Whithey and give her credit when it's due!

@@carloshernandohurtadocardo4085 a full lyric is basically a properly matured light lyric, so what ariana and demi will become. A spinto is an immature dramatic, so given proper maturation, Whitney's voice would've become like patti labelle, but, since it matured improperly with drug use and overworking, she became a mezzo instead. The sound output of a spin to is also naturally lighter and doesnt lighten as it goes higher. You'll notice whitney retains her tone when she strains up high in the per belts sometimes even if she does get a bit whiny, whereas glennis lightens somewhat and doesnt retain the punch that whitney does.
Glennis' voice is too big and heavy to be considered as a full lyric, I think she is also a spinto but slightly lighter than Whitney.
I like Glennis but Whitney is the voice she was touched by god and his angels no one can touch Whitney♥️

I’m obviously in the minority here but I honestly don’t hear the similarities aside from the arrangement of the songs and their singing abilities. Their voice colors(tones) sound very different to me. I haven’t heard Glennis speak but I’m guessing their voices aren’t alike at all. Also, I don’t mean to sound so vain but young Whitney was truly one of the most beautiful women... and it certainly was something that made her all the more special to many, including me.

Whitney had the voice of an Angel. Nobody can deny that! Glennis has a good voice, don't get me wrong but Whitney had something special in her that I have never heard before and MY GOD, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN she was... Unfortunately, Whitney smoked cigarettes etc. We all know that and destroyed her voice which is sooo heartbreaking. I do hope she finally found some peace in Heaven. She deserved to be happy, I am sooo sad she's gone. It is painful. She went through hell at the end of the 80's because she was bisexual and also because of the way she sang (too white, I mean, what the hell???!!)! SO WHAT! The press really took her down and I'm sure it must have been hard for her. My Goodness, she didn't deserve all that sh☆t. Glennis has a fantastic instrument, one to die for. But one thing is imitating runs, inflections, a particular style like for like, and a very different one is to create your own. What made Whitney transcend is her uniqueness, a soul that touches millions through that one-in-a-trillion woody silky, larger-than-life resonance and incredible head voice. Even when her instrument was damaged, the soul, the pain, the presence, the personality, the creativity, the passion, the sass, the world-class artistry send you shivers through your spine. That 'it' thing that change lives. Glennis' voice is impressive, but without 'it', it is just a voice, not 'The' voice.
But if you do a tribute, don't you think it's a great thing to sing it exactly the same way? Besides Whitney didn't create any songs, she just sang other's songs. GG has made a lot of her own songs.

You don’t see Glennis covering other songs that aren’t Whitney’s and adding her own spin as wonderfully as Whitney could when she covered any song. Imitation and originality and different.
Well...Whitney made her career recording and performing HER OWN songs...that should say it all. BUT Glynnis does a great job with a career paying homage to the Voice. She has a great Voice of her own but I want to hear her original songs.

A "battle"? What? That's crazy! Art is neighter a worldcup nor a question of "who's better?". I love Whitney Houston, she has brought a new level to female singing, no question. But I also love Glennis Grace, she's not just a "Houston-Cover"! Listen to her other performances! She's absolutely worldclass and can do stylistic things, Whitney would have problems with, I'm sure.
But how about some other "battles" of artists? Mozart vs. Beethoven? Salvador Dalí vs. Pablo Picasso? Perhaps Mark Twain vs. Oscar Wilde?
I will never in my life forget a 6 year old boy (who had lost his parents) singing a lullaby for his sister. No Singing Technique, no vibrato, no headvoice, no power! I couldn't stop crying for a long time. That's what it's all about, man! A "battle"???

I agree. You can see how much Glennis adores and respects Whitney, and I think it's better just to appreciate someone with a fantastic voice keeping that music alive than compare.

Glennis is a terrific singer, no fucking doubt. Whitney's timbre for me is a bit more pleasing, and Whitney seems to hold her power on the high notes a bit better. Great singer this Ms. Grace is though.

Whitney is a legend of course. Because is of her Glennis is singing. Glennis have a warmer voice, that's why i love Glennis. The only thing about Glennis is that she is also copying exatly the live preformes.

But if you see her other covers, not the one of Whitney, you have to admit that she put her own identity in the songs and making it their own.

It's not her fold that her sound come near the sound of Whitney. So yeah, you know when the belts are coming, so what? That's the way she like to honour her example in music. I just love her for that. And about Whitney fans, at lease 90% of the reactions of Whitney fans I can see on the internet are positive.

Glennis is also a diva and exceptional singer!! Whitney lives on in her, no other singer in the world comes as close to Whitney in terms of sound, but Glennis does her own thing. Matching with Whitney is very difficult, nor should it be compared...
People who really listen carefully and who know Whitney's voice very well hear the differences between Whitney and Glennis very clearly. Glennis forces her voice to sound like Whitney. This girl Donna sounds much closer to Whitney and has also the Gospel background that Glennis has't. Donna is also genuine because she sings from her heart & soul instead of trying to copy Whitney.

The only thing Glennis doesn't have is the liberty that Whitney took with her voice when she was live on stage . Whitney learnt to sing at church in a gospel choir, Glennis learnt with the albums of Whitney : it's certainly THE difference between them ! Whitney improvised each time on her songs, Glennis sings the album versions of Whitney . But like we often repeat it, Whitney was THE voice ! But Glennis brings back her memory when she sings, giving us a piece of Whitney if she was always here with her voice, before she lost it later ..
