I wonder what the other alternatives ( contest proposals ) look like.
I like the project very much, I'm just curious :)

Thank God they saved this from being another mistake like they did with Penn Station. The greatest NYC historical loss. I still can't believe they got away with such crime!

Would be dope if there was a highline that went through all the boroughs. Connecting them

A lot of people don't understand land ownership laws, those we use in the USA, which originate in Anglo-Norman England, are very complicated and have to specify not only whether it's fee simple, in allodium, etc, but the presence of mineral rights, water rights, air rights, and so on. When you say, "perfect" a mortage on your home, you don't really own the land itself by default. You're always a tenant of the allodial owner, typically being the Federal or State government. CSX has to deal with the same kinds of ownership issues I'm sure.

Are most of the rails still in place? And, does CSX still own the right of way?

MrRailroadrunner from my understanding no. From The videos it seems some of the lines were exposed but most covered. The city owns the park now I believe.

1:39 How was elevating the West Side Line in 1929 the biggest and most historic transportation infrastructure project in the city? Seems simple they had been elevating train lines since the 1870’s. The West Side Improvement was the project was what Moses did uptown building Riverside Park. Not this.

it is a tragic this line is no longer moving freight given the amount of truck traffic in Manhattan, yet another tribute to the failure of the "free market" railway ownership.

@@CaalamusTube 4 years late better than never lol.. Conrail still exists and they still run trains. They're a shared assets "paper railroad" that owns lines in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
