  • I'm talking about my tap out on episode 5 of Alone, season 8. To sum it up, it's all about the relationship we have with ourselves. I recorded this the morning that the season premeired because i didn't want it to be tainted by the edited version of my time out in the bush. Sorry it took me so long to get it out, I'm not a pro at this.

    I find the psychological aspect of this show to be as interesting as the survival skills aspect.

    What a mature introspection. I could tell by the way you were hyper focused on what people would think towards the end that it was an inner struggle about yourself. I came to find out what you had to say about it because I am that way too and I feel that with the state of the planet we will increasingly need to have inner resilience through all the changes it will go through in the next decade. Being as supportive of ourselves as we are of others is the way to be of most service to the world.
    I agree, it's not only based on how we have been made to feel about ourselves but also can be an ego thing where we feel that self-abasement is how to humble ourselves. I don't want to do that anymore either. I was honored to be able to watch your experience. May we move forward with self-love and care.

    I appreciate your realizing that you were chopping yourself down. However, your exit was a direct and blatant attack on the viewers. YOU tried to save face and started Chopping down the viewers who enjoy the show and yes from the comfort of their living rooms. Nevertheless that was our choice. You chose to go on alone and be public and to lecture us at your exit in my opinion was your lowest point. I feel for you and respect your effort but bashing us for your own ego is another lesson you didn't seem to glean from your experience.

      Hi Danny. What you are referring to happened probably about a week before my tap out and actually had nothing to do with my decision to go. My point was not to cut any fans down, but to point out a disturbing aspect of the show. I'm sorry that you were so offended by it. It was also said as a joke, so there is no reason for you to take it personally.

    • @dannyleonidas4328
      @dannyleonidas4328 3 года назад +10

      @@caribbeanearthskills5865 your tone wasn't that of a joke. A week earlier doesn't dismiss the contempt you displayed towards the viewers. Personally, i expected a more humble response but instead you gave a qualified apology. Ego and pride are hard to overcome. Maybe in time you will understand what i mean. But please don't go on the show again until you realize that your failure is not our fault and we reserve the right to comment on your behavior and the lecture you tried to give us. I want to respect you for even attempting alone but your words, excuses and contempt towards viewers makes it difficult. Especially after continuing to justify them without true reflection.

    • @josiahmorris5799
      @josiahmorris5799 3 года назад +4

      Actually, Danny, maybe it is you that needs some reflection. He just heard your highly critical comment and responded to it with grace.
      You may need to check in with his comments again because your words and behaviour show EXACTLY what he was talking about.
      He didn’t “attack” the viewers. He offered perspective on the reality of the show, that folks are at home armchair quarterbacking and eating popcorn (he even says that was him before) and they won’t truly know what it’s like unless they are there.
      So cut Matt some slack and chill out. I was laughing at the same clip that you were so offended by. Maybe next time, watch with less judgement!

    • @dannyleonidas4328
      @dannyleonidas4328 3 года назад +6

      @@josiahmorris5799 what he said wasn't where many viewers were offended but rather his condescending tone. You might want to understand the language of tone. I too was laughing at how pathetic it sounded as a result of his tone. I agree with his words as they rang true but his tone projected was childish. You think what you want and i can think what i want.
      Btw, you need to chill out and let the man have some dignity without having to step in and play hero 👌

    Thank you for sharing yourself Matt, it's powerful.
    What I have seen with some of the people I have helped walk through similar things is that the the harsh cutting voice is often either basically a "recording" played on Loop of things parents or teachers or authority figures have told the person in the past, and with some exploration we can identify who planted that seed, that belief, and once the person can put a name and time and place to it, they can see it's not their belief after all, and it loses power because they can see that the source was wrong.
    The other common root I find is what I refer to as a "Program".
    Instead of the person being told they are horrible at everything or whatever, maybe the person was told that they were too proud, too cocky, too full of themselves, and so they decide that they need to take themselves down a notch, and basically create their own recording, their own Program that runs every time they are doing something good, because they think that they need to be more humble, and so they tear themselves down automatically.
    There are probably many more ways that we self destruct and keep ourselves from shining as bright as our birthright gives us the right to, but those are my most frequent observations.
    Enjoy your journey, it's a good one!

    Hey man, recurring theme I've watched you all go through to various degrees. Seems to be worse for those of you who run schools and camps, understandable to a degree but you are all way too hard on yourselves. No amount of skill is going to overcome a less than ideal or bad camp location. Never mind the haters, there is no appeasing armchair quarterbacks. You were skilled enough to get onto the show and had the nerve to stay as long as you did in a rather hazardous location.
    I'm glad you decided to leave when you did, clearly things weren't clicking for you and it would've just been another session of Starvation Simulator - Alone Edition. No one really wants to see another decent into ill health like Larry or Dave. I think the show needs to step up the requirements on the health checks a bit.
    My only critique of you and everyone of your build that goes on the show, I find it hard to take your attempt serious when you don't put on an extra 10-15 pounds going in. Good choice in deciding to go home, good luck for your future endeavors.

    These haters below couldn't last a day out there. What is the point of being rude and insulting? Matt, those of us that know you know that there is no doubt you could have won if the physical skills were the only things tested out there. Community. Relationships. Teams. Those are what make or break the long haul. The fact that you were aware enough about yourself and the personal, emotional, and psychological issues that you faced when looking inward and the lessons you learned therein is the real win for being out there. As we know, there is no failure if you learned from the experience and it seems you learned a great deal and that makes you a winner. I am speaking for a few others and myself, but I am sure there are more of us out there that would agree.
