Gold Nuggets found at a Copper Mine, in Tailings!

  • Dayna and I headed back into the Golconda Copper mine to investigate a huge pile of mine tailings (Mine Ore) that was left behind when the mine shut down almost 100 years ago. We ran this crush material through the new Gold Hog Z3 High Banker. And the results were very surprising in a very good way. GOLD NUGGETS!

Would definitely love to see what Jason could do with five or ten bags of that stuff. If the free-mill is any indication then there's a lot in that pile, possibly enough to make it worth a small excavator and process rig.

To process that entire crush pile, especially if I were looking for specimens to sell, I would lay out some heavy vinyl tarp along the entire base of the pile [need not be a lot, just enough to catch what washes down] and focus all the material in with a pressure hose [kinda like hydraulic mining, only more of a controlled washing] so I could have a separator table to have somebody sorting the rough crush before it passed along to a better crusher.
But then I would not really bother much with too intensive of a gravity separation, and simply let it dewater in big fiber totes, load it onto a truck and run it to a better place to smelt.

Another thing for Gold Hog to consider while designing, is material usage. Making parts 11.5", 15.5", 23.5", or 47.25" wide, works best for 48" wide sheets cut on a laser. 14.5", 19.5", 29.5", or 59.25" for 60" wide.

If you're not sucking up all the water going by in the creek with your pump, then why not dig a little area where the pump inlet is placed for the water to pool up? You could always fill the hole back up with the rocks and dirt you initially removed after you're done pumping!

Hi Dan, I think it's great that you and Dayna share the same passion for prospecting. It's always nicer to be two people, and being with your partner is probably even nicer. Do you also need a licence to pan for gold as you do in this video, outside a mine (free) or can anyone do it without a licence? Last question: do you refill the holes you make when prospecting, I'm thinking especially of wild animals that can get trapped or even injured by falling into these holes?

The hopper box should have fingers going full length of the box or almost full length then a feed tray underneath the fingers that catches what falls through and drops onto the miners moss. Would allow better placement of the water for washing the input material for heavy feeding and the aggressive angle you had and not lose water/material out the back of the feed hopper as easily. Should be a fairly simple modification as well.
