  • LEIPZIG: "Damn it! I've never experienced anything like this before" And suddenly Pistorius explodes
An election campaign event of the Saxon SPD with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius was disrupted in Leipzig on Monday evening. Around 50 people had gathered in front of the venue, a police spokeswoman said when asked. There were also disruptions at the event in a beer garden, and three people were excluded from the event by security. According to police, the demonstrations against the SPD event had been registered by the group "Creating Peace Without Weapons" and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW).
According to an SPD spokesman from Saxony, around 300 people attended the event with the SPD's top candidate for the state elections in Saxony, Petra Köpping, and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. There were repeated heckling, and some people just wanted to shout their anger and frustration in the Defense Minister's face. "We are not hiding," Köpping wrote on the X platform. "Unfortunately, there are people who want to prevent such discussions by any means possible. But we will not let that get us down." The vast majority of those present wanted an objective debate. This was achieved, Köpping continued.
The state election in Saxony is on September 1st.
