Can an AI write Undertale music?

- In this episode, we use artificial intelligence to rewrite Undertale music. More specifically, we consider using MuseNet to recompose specific tracks. We create alternate versions of "Megalovania", "Spear of Justice" and "Asgore".

I love how when it tries to make Meglovania it either gets stuck in the first melody, or completely breaks and starts playing Persona 5 music, Megalovania truly transcends the A.I's programming.

The chord progression at the end of the first Megalovania made me think of Persona 5. I think it was the third chord in the sequence that gave me that vibe? I am 100% illiterate in musical terminology, so if anyone knows if there is a specific name for it, I’d be happy to learn it!

I think its the high paced jazz that makes it feel that way? Kinda like going into a palace, the music is a feel of stealthy, heart pounding jazz. I know next to nothing about music aswell so I'm just speculating
Megalovania’s section is proof you can’t ruin it.
Also, doubt you’ll do it, but here’s a suggestion: AI continues Danganronpa songs (ex: V3 closing argument theme, Goodbye Despair opening, etc)
Honestly, I am not familiar with the Danganronpa franchise, but, I am open to anything, :D

Just started the video. The AI at least made Asgore sound nice… then Spear Of Justice sounds like something you’d find in an investigation of a crime scene. The first megalovania one is me whenever I practice piano. The second one sounds awesome though.

Note: A viewer has pointed out to me that the prompt for the "Asgore" section is actually "Bergentrückung", the opening to Asgore, meaning that, although the A.I. is rewriting "Asgore" it is not technically prompted with the full song.

MuseNet, the A.I. used in this video, was trained on hundred of thousands of midi files, so, it can do a pretty good job, :D
I would have used Openai Jukebox for this video, which would have done a lot better, but, it takes hours to do inference using Jukebox.
There is a scary legendary that tells the story of a Million song artists getting captured by an Evil AI at the year 6090 and went back in time to force the artists to just continue stupid music until the end of time...
2nd Alt Megalovania just drops the original vibe entirely but it sounds like it could make good training montage music if you throw in some electric guitars.

if you look closely in spear of justice the lines look more like a sword so isnt it sword of justice

at megalovania i had SOME hope for the AI because he got the song PERFECTLY LIKE THE ORIGNAL then it went like a deflated balloon and floped

This is really cool. I really like the asgore one actually, I think that one got the 'vibe' best, other than the one that straight up just played megalovania again, but like spear of justice really didn't hit that 6/8 feel, probably because it was mostly trained on 4/4, and the second megalovania is also pretty different.

Yeah, the model used, MuseNet, has not been made publicly available for local download. You can only use it through an online service made by OpenAI.
It is attempting to continue videogame music, but, has no Undertale specific training.
Although it is free to use, there is no way to continue training or fine-tune it for domain specific generation without said weights.
I'm going to name these because I feel like it.
1. Monarch's monody
2. Victory of a True Hero
3. Reckoning
4. Law and Order.

This AI can recreate the sound of undertale music pretty good but only in the short term. It can’t stay consistent in how it sounds for more than a few seconds
At the start of generation, notes from the original prompt are most probably, which means it is likely to repeat said sequences for a while.
However, MuseNet has no Undertale specific training, meaning, it can't replicate Toby Fox's work. No public weights means no fine-tuning for domain specific generation.

It doesn't necessarily detect leitmotifs, exactly, but, it does compare the most recent note in the sequence, the one at the current focus of attention, to each prior note in the sequence when making a decision. In this way, it considers the prior context holistically.
It will output the most probable note given the prior context, meaning, it is capable of repeating or modifying elements of the original prompt. The lower the generation temperature, the more likely it is to repeat itself.
