No way. 2 pots of warm water on stove. One to soap up and one to rinse off with wash cloth. Dry shampoo for hair. Would be way to cold for me outside. That shower would have been done months ago. Lol

Jay and Jen, I did want to say something, you guys are of best on RUclips some people on off grid I have take off my subscription lessons. If you look at some off them , they are useing there body just to get people to subscription on there channel. This is wrong RUclips should smart up. I feel they should take these people off RUclips. Cons. solar panels in winter a straith ice shovel is good for removing ice, then a brush can easyli remove the rest.

No sun here either until recently. Used my genny way too much this year to charge my battery bank. This spring I’m upgrading to lithium.
Ya it is weird, last year was doable.....but not this year. Upgrades coming this year for sure.
I have some great economical 12V lighting ... my little cabin is dual voltage, several fuel .. wood, etc.
Nice....I was trying to keep the cabin simple and only use AC so I didn't have to mess with multiple systems, but maybe some 12volt would have helped us in the long run.
@@OffgridwithJayandJen I monitor things as I build and develop things. i want to run 12V for as long as I can and still be frugal with it. ... as if there was no power available or being "off grid". Thus storage of volts/amps is most important. The log runs to the house/cabin from the batteries has much voltage drop. It is more efficient to have the lifepo4 right next to or in an area of the cabin and run the solar wires the distance. If you almost live without using voltages/amps ...in testing, then you can add the extra slowly. I could run hot plate lets say but if I have wood stove and heat it makes (for winter cold) then I don't use the amps in the battery for that cook job .... I make it more or less a game and IF by chance there is a long term without fuel or electric power (which I have some i.e. well pump (but have three back up plans for that to develop)) if all power goes down for months I should still be able to be warm, cook and read 🙂 I think you are doing a neat job with all your working with... Oh, I have a restoring of an old RV so it is full self contain too... soooo have more than one place to sustain...
As always, great looking progress....I agree on the drywall, leave that *$&% for the people that do it every day. They are much faster. The T&G is the way to go in a cabin anyway.. no drywall cracking in the joints from the cold and warm temperature deviations.Your cabin is looking great!
i dont do drywall everday and i dont think drywall is that bad , i think it pretty easy
Easy maybe....but messy, and takes multiple days to complete. Hang, mud, let dry, sand, primer, paint. Just lots of extra steps

In the beginning as you are talking about using your generator, I notice the conifer near the battery shed blowing in the wind. Then when you start to cut boards the camera is blown over. One can see the deciduous trees, without leaves, also blowing in the wind. Would a wind generator help supplement your solar power system at least during the Winter?
Yes I would. I think we are going to make a serious point of getting one before next winter.....I didn't think we needed one, but this winter is proving me wrong

Years ago, when I finished off the room in my basement for my home office, I did tongue and grove on the walls. It may not be a cabin, but it least it has the feel, it's cozy and I get a lot of work done. I love it! I couldn't imagine having sheet rock in that room.

10a input via the generator is prety darn low, especially with how big your battery bank is. Have you thought about adding a second 120v charger? At 10a it may take 8+hrs of running your generator to get any real charge into those batteries. Running the generator may seam fine now because your still in construction mode but is really going to suck hearing it when your not.
Ya that is why I was saying I need a bigger manual charger.....last year we didn't need to use the genny much so I thought this year would be the same, but pumping more juice in there would work better like you said.

Hi Jay & Jen! Lol a lil cold to be outside in shorts huh.. but I noticed you put your hoody up 😂. The bedroom & shower look great! I still am amazed that I was here since the beginning and you have all added a bedroom & a shower. Here in Northern N J we have had no snow removal and we usually get plowed 5 times a week. The temperatures have been wonderful too. I usually go to Fl 3 times in the winter and have gone once. It has been 57 degrees here this week. So much for the farmers almanac predicting the worse winter that didn’t happen. Enjoy your beautiful cabin and scenery & thanks for bringing us along!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Blessings

Guest quarters and storage. We actually were talking a couple stair case options a day such thr other day to try and make things more convenient. But that might have to wait until next winter.
Jay, I am sure that you already know that you SHOULD NOT install voltage lines within 4 feet of any water. In your case, the wall that faces the bed and is the wall oposite the shower is an OK wall to put power too. Do not put AC or DC power anywhere around your AC or DC voltage. It is the AMPS that will kill you.

i dont know much about solar system but i watch some youtuber have off grid cabin and they got pretty sweet solar system i dont know what kind solar batteries he have but he said he couldn't get his batteries below 40'F. i think his batteries cost him $1700 for one battery and he have 6 batteries i think his solar system cost him $30k or more. i guess jay solar batteries can get cold
Ya Dave, the fancy lithium batteries don't work below freezing. These lead acid, old technology, batteries work in colder Temps, but don't last as long.
