    I always love watching your analysis videos of the songs. This is one of my favorite songs of the series, especially at the lines "Just pray for mercy at your time of death. Be glad you existed, enjoy your last breath." I don't know why, but those lines always give me chills. I'm hyped to see what you'll say for the other songs, and especially for V6!

  • @tahjarch

    The song is from the perspective of both Raven and Cinder. That makes way more sense when you think about it. The song was oddly vague perspective-wise in the context of the fight. Both girls viewed each other in the same way.

  • @dragonstormx
    @dragonstormx 6 лет назад +93

    For Raven's own feelings on death, she seems to be really afraid of it. Even if it was reluctant, she let Yang take the Relic of Knowledge because she was too afraid of the target it would paint on her back to carry it herself. As Yang pointed, for all of Raven's power she is still a coward. This is the same woman who saw there was a conflict being waged for the fate of the world, and as far as we can tell she ran away because she was too scared.

    • @Wolfeson28
      @Wolfeson28 6 лет назад +16

      Exactly, there is some intentional (from the writers' perspective) hypocrisy in the lyrics. Raven is trying to say that death shouldn't be feared or hated in order to justify her own murders. But at the same time she doesn't want to face the fact that this philosophy presages the same end for her that she predicts for Cinder: dying alone and unremembered at the hands of someone even stronger than her.
      I think this is meant to demonstrate the ongoing mental conflict in Raven's mind, which she will likely have to resolve at some point.

    • @dragonstormx
      @dragonstormx 6 лет назад +5

      @@Wolfeson28 Well we already saw Raven was a hypocrite with how she called Qrow for abandoning their family of murderous bandits because he decided the rest of the world was more important, while by and large not caring about her own daughter. I find it an amazing feat that Volume 5 actually managed to make her into a sympathetic character.

There is a few that believe it's Salem to Ozpin. However, Casey already confirm to be a duel between Cinder and Raven and it's a combination of Cinder's and Raven's leitmotifs. I thought the meaning of "Infinite matter will always evolve" was obvious? It's the first law of thermodynamics.
    Matter/ energy (yes those are the same thing) are never truly created or destroyed, only transforming into something else.
    In the context of this song this essentially means that Cinders matter will evolve into something new by ceasing to be 'Cinder' a.k.a. dying.

    Even though I enjoy a lot of your song analyses, I fear that in this instance, you missed the mark. The song is definitely not Raven's rebuttal to Cinder as she's beating her like a redheaded stepchild, it's the two of them rebutting each other as they beating on one another. Many of the lines apply more to Cinder, who wants to destroy everything (and we still don't know why). while others apply more to Raven, who simply wants to survive and finds Cinder's lust for power meaningless.
    Take the second verse, for example:
    "This is the end,
    Here's where you'll die,
    Legends should scatter,
    So just say goodbye.
    *No one will miss you*
    *When you're fin'lly gone,*
    *At your conclusion*
    *Sing your swan song.* "
    The first four lines are definitely Cinder, who proclaims Raven will die along with all the old legends. Whereas in the next four, Raven rebuts by saying Cinder's attempts at immortalizing herself will come to nothing and she'll end up dead and forgotten.
    The next two lines are definitely Raven, as shown:
    " *Murder, Unkindness, Conspiracy,*
    *Embers extinguished in effigy.* "
    The second and third words describe a group of ravens. Or, in another case, all three words describe Raven herself: she's a mass murderer, she's not kind to her children, and will conspire with devils just to survive.
    The next line is also self-explanatory. Ember, another word for Cinder, is extinguished when Raven turns her into a frozen effigy, which happens at the end of their fight.
    " *Just close your eyes,*
    *Don't fear demise.*
    Black out the sky,
    All things must die."
    The first half is a callback to Sacrifice "Close your eyes now, count for dreams, death is never what it seems." And that's more Raven's song, who strives to resist Ozpin's machinations, than Cinder's, who simply wants to destroy everything and cover the world in darkness. Said desire is expressed in the next two lines, which are also self-explanatory.
    Anyway, not to rain on your parade, EruptionFang, but I thought I'd give examples as to why I found your analysis inaccurate. Not a personal attack by any means. Anyway, take care, and looking forward to you analyzing more songs. :D

    I wonder if Raven even if its only by old age will think the way Esdeath did in Akame ga Kill. When Esdeath was dying she told herself that it was cos she was weak; even said the same about Tatsumi who she loved. So I wonder if for in any circumstance Raven nearly or does die(hoping not, hoping not, hoping not) that she'll think to herself that it was only cos she was too weak to keep herself alive
    Also this song seems more towards being about Cinder seeing as Raven has the deep rooted philosophy of 'The STRONG LIVE, the WEAK DIE' meaning she believes all the strong beings on this earth deserve their place in life because they were able to survive, whereas this song is more saying that everything should die, whether its eventual or sudden because of someones elses hand, it SHOULD and WILL die. Seems like something Cinder would want really

    I mostly interpreted this song as Raven trying to justify all of the bad things that she's done over her lifetime. I could see this as being directed not just at Cinder, but at all of the people Raven has killed: the previous Spring Maiden, the villagers she's attacked, undoubtedly others we don't know about, maybe even Summer Rose (this last one is my own speculation). It's a message along the lines of "I'm not really doing anything bad, I'm just doing what the world would eventually do anyway. Don't hate me for killing you, be happy you got to live this long." It also extends to her actions such as abandoning Tai and Yang, and (as we understand it right now) breaking up team STRQ. Once again, she's presenting this dissolution of bonds between people as simply the natural order of the world, and trying to absolve herself of any responsibility for the actions that precipitated it.
    At the same time, you're right that many of the messages from the song's lyrics can easily reflect right back onto Raven. I think that represents the fact that Raven understands that the natural extension of her philosophy is that she will inevitably die, alone and unremembered, at the hands of someone stronger. She knows this in the back of her mind, but isn't willing to face that unpleasant fact yet. And this also sets the stage for Raven fleeing and allowing Yang to take the Relic of Knowledge during the next episode. Clearly, despite Raven's assertions in the song that death is a natural part of life and shouldn't be feared, she does fear death herself and wants to keep it at bay in any way she can.

    A thought I’ve had: what if the grim are the embodiment of fear and other negative emotions from those that have died with regrets? We know the grim are attracted to negative emotions. What if humans/fanus can be modified by Salem into half-grim hybrids through their negative emotions? That might be what happens to Adam in exchange for power when he decides to go and ask Salem for help.

This is because the line goes back to an ancient belief that when a swan dies, it sings a beautiful song, despite remaining silent for most of their lives.

    I like these videos you make OwO
    I agree about half of what you said about Raven and at first I thought it was a Cinder song with a bit of Raven.
    Not anymore, Casey did a reaction video of Arnold's reaction to the volume 5 reaction.
    She said when he was listening and said his thoughts, she said " it's both Raven and Cinder thoughts. They both thought you the one going down.
    But overall I still like all of your videos you make Cole UwU keep moving forward and work smarter not harder.

    One reason I believe Raven and Cinder are singing this to each other is the line "infinite matter will always evolve " . It only makes sence for Cinder to say all things must and will die but she will survive threw some means in some sence . Weather it be a maidens reincarnation or the constantly evolving physique and intelligence( for lack of a better word )of Grimm . Now I will admit this does sound closer to Raven philosophy of the strong suviving but closer to Cinder's character her relationship with the Grimm and they along with the power she desires means to her . but I could be wrong though honstly if almost every second stanza of the song just sounds like Cinders to me .
    I also forgot this was confirmed by Casey to be from both perspectives

    The wiki says that All Things Must Die is from the perspective of both Raven and Cinder, it combines their themes. Overall, great video as always. I always enjoy the song meaning videos (don't know how to word it). I mean Casey said that it's a combination of both of them (Raven and Cinder) on her channel when reacting to MurdererofBirds' livestream of the volume 5 soundtrack and that the lyrics are implied to be both of them. But! Great video!

    My questions is...Since Raven killed Cinder, is it possible that now she has both fall and spring maiden powers? If not, who'd the powers go to? If anyone...is Cinder alive? (doubtful)

    It doesn't fit that well, but when thinking of an infinite amount of matter evolving, entropy comes to mind. Entropy is the property of systems of matter and energy to move from their current level of complexity to the less complex. On an infinite (universal) scale, entropy will eventually lead to a universe's energy death. This is when all energy (and with our current understanding all mass, by proxy of it being energy) will be equally spread across the universe. Without any locations of higher energy, nothing can significantly move or take from, and the universe will be dead.

    Perhaps "infinite matter will always evolve" refers to existance beyound a person. Like, as far as we are lead to comprehend the universe existed before our births and will continue after. We can't put an exact point to its begining or final points, so it is also assumed that it will change as it did during a person's life when all connections and thoughts disapear.

    uhm i know this is a dumb question but since i still don't know the answer to this, cinder is the recent fall maiden right ? so if she really is dead or surely she is not yet dead, won't the power of fall maiden will also transfer to raven ? since she is in her last thoughts..? maybe it doesn't concern raven if cinder is really dead or not and maybe that flaw of maiden power transfer story will conclude that she really isn't dead

    Now that I think about it, the,aim ememy in RWBY is fear, people turn sides and betray allies due to the fear of salem. If it was known to all that she is inmortal imagine the panic it will bring, to know that you have no hope means defeat even before the fight. At least with false hope you can walk forward and fight rather than cowar and await anihilation.
