So for the steel, red means the steel is very compressed, and blue means the steel is very tense, or stretched. So both of them can start flashing and break if they get too tense or too compressed

You can turn off your shield by double clicking on it and then fire your laser then turn it back on. I'd suggest adding at least 2 if not 3 doors behind the shield first though.
