You mentioned the playstation 1 Hellboy game, so I thought I should share this: when I was in art school back in 2003, Mike Mignola was invited to speak to our class. I forget how the subject of the PS1 game came up, but he told us that he actually had no idea about the making of the game and had only learned of it when he saw an ad for it in a magazine, contacted Dark Horse who apparently also had no idea what that was about. So yeah...not sure how that game actually got around to being made.
_Hellboy: Asylum Seeker_ is a weird aberration of licensing. From what I've found, it was actually originally called _Hellboy: Dogs of the Night_ and was released for PC in 2000 after (allegedly) *four years* development. Got ported to PS1 in 2003.
Daniel Adamczyk I was referring to the game design, not the art design. I’m all for a cell shaded look or something fresh, I just don’t want a brainless brawler that inundated the early 7th generation.
Hellboy (2019) is definitely a what happened. The movie was so bad my girlfriend left half through and stranded me at the theatre. Had to get a cab home she was so mad at how bad it is.
I always wondered about that movie. It seemed to get heavily promoted and then nothing was ever said afterwards. It certainly didn't last long in theaters.
Yeah i did watch the Hellboy 2019 movie and i enjoyed it for what it was, like it was trying to be DeadPool and in my opinion it pulled it off, that's coming from somebody who's never seen the first two movies, which were considered the best.
I completely blanked this game from my mind after its 1 out of 5 X-Play review, and I keep forgetting about that PS1 Hellboy game too. With those 2 messes and Hellboy 2019, it's like, maybe Del Toro was the magic touch to this franchise, and now a Oscar winner, maybe he can have his 3rd movie... Or a animated one like those other 2... God, I miss Ron Perlman playing him, no matter what, he delivers, goddamn Universal gotta be Universal I guess.
The truly tragic part of this game is that the last few levels (including a character named Lobster Johnson voiced by Bruce Campbell) are locked on the disk with no way to access them. On Xbox 360 the game released in violation of Microsoft's (at the time) policy that every retail release had to have 1000 gamerscore. I was so angry when I learned that it couldn't be completed 100%. Krome Studios admitted all the content was there, Konami just decided to lock it. This game released at a time where a lot of publishers were doing that so they could sell a pass/dlc that was only ever an unlock code and not actually new content. Such a bad game and omg the achievements that are obtainable are absolutely ridiculous. Kill X number of enemies using a level specific item. Oh btw each item breaks after a half a dozen hits and it takes over a dozen hits to kill an enemy smh.
Well I mean he even promoted it and lobbied for a Hellboy sequel in Payday 2. ("You guys seen Hellboy? Great f*cking movie. They really should do a third one.")
Péter Szabó Really speaks volumes about how much Universal’s treatment of Del Toro must have pissed him off. Del Toro had been trying desperately to get a third movie in the works, and Universal had shot him down every time. The other movies performed great, were reviewed well, and even got nominated for a few awards, but the studio didn’t like how much creative freedom Del Toro required. So they deliberately waited for his contract to expire before they made another movie. And then when they approached Perlman to reprise his role, something he hadn’t even hesitated to do until then, he told them to go fuck themselves. Which makes sense when you consider that Perlman and Del Toro have been best friends since Cronos.
@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick yeah somebody should buy all the film rights from Universal along with the means to rerelease the Hellboy back catalogue that was published under Universal, under a new publisher with way more respect for their people than Universal Studios could ever do...
There was dlc but Krom released it in a short order of time so playing as Lobster Johnson and the other character are locked and Krom isn't releasing it. And Krom went defunct back in the early 2000s so don't expect a remaster.
My only memory of this game was reading in a gaming magazine that the announced DLC wasn't coming out. Although shortly after that MK vs DC and the TNA Impact game (anyone remember that?) had DLC cancelled due to Midway pulling the ultimate Midway and going bankrupt. Actually there's a kinda funny coincidence there because the guys who made MK vs DC went on to make Injustice 2 which had Hellboy as a DLC character that was actually released.
Oh the real kicker is what they were calling dlc is actually just content already on the disk. Konami just up and decided to lock out the last few chapters so they could sell it as "dlc" later.
@@lonesquiff6551 really i didn't think a licensed game like this Hellboy would have have the on Disk DLC where the publisher decides to make the most Douchebag Money grubbing move, but it's Konami so why am I not surprised...
