This channel deserves so much more attention! ... I'm young, and I've been struggling to decide exactly what I want to do with my life when I finish my last year here in the Marine Corps. I want to be able to support my wife and do something both I and my family can be proud of. I think working a trade may just be the way to go. Thank you for helping me see my path, and cheers to you in the future.
Its impossible to find a fix it shop too!!!! I am a seamstress making costuming and selling on Ebay and have done well in the past. I took 2 yrs off when the market was blown with Asian stuff and just started working again 9 mons ago. Its finally working, but took a lot of listings. I enjoy watching what you are doing, my homestead is done so just maintenance. I have been able to smell the smoke on the wind the past month, but so far Arkansas isnt burning! Enjoy your family and dinner!!!!
Nice Life Style for your family, good job. I’ve enjoyed your videos. I like your comment about Skilled Tradesmen. I had thirty years in the Building Trades, served an Aprenticeship as an Union Ironworker and ended my career as a Business Agent. When it comes to my Homestead. Like you I perform the labor with friends and family , just to keep it cost affective. Keep up the good work. Best Regards
I was a teacher for 33 years. I always had some students that I knew weren't interested in college or a career behind a desk. I encouraged them to look at trade schools or apprenticeships in something they were interested in. We would all be in tough shape without trades-people both male and female. I greatly admire those who work with their hands.
Amazing progress so far. Love to watch each step you take in finishing the home and property. Of course it is never finished. But able to move in must be a great accomplishment. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Your 100% CORRECT. This country is sorely lacking SKILLED tradesmen & woman ( PC). My Dad use to sy IF you can use your hands and have a trade rarely will you be out of work. I admire your work, knowledge and have learned from your videos. Thank you!
Nice Video. I've looked forward to you making the concrete pour, wondered why you were waiting, now I know. Hope you have good weather for a week or two so you can get some things done. Be careful.
Looks good.. You've got your priorities in place.. Seeing how you've worked over the last couple years, I have no doubt that you'll get it done.. Good job.

Hi redpopey great video🤔great job well done👍like they say roam was not built in a day and it's nice to have some chill time with family thanks for the update and sharing this video and lifestyle keep safe and enjoy 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Most people have sense. But they don't have common sense. In my field I see people that have a lot of book sense, but have no common sense. Common sense is a thing a believe is slowly going away. Like the saying goes " You can't fix stupid. Not even with duct tape. It muffles the sound though." Keep it up, you're doing great.
Things are looking good brother. Congratulations on the 50,000 + subs. You’ve work hard for them. We are just beginning our new adventure at the new site and can’t wait to get started on whatever it is that we do.
Was thinking about tank house. If you could find an old used round, small grain silo, made out of corrugated steel, Something just big enough to fit tank in, and have enough room to walk around the tank for servicing tank. You could set it into hillside no problem, their galvanized, and would last for years. Could do the same for well pump house too, just burm soil around smaller silo, or large corrugated culvert, maybe damaged one from county, or state.
I think it would be nice to see more of your wife. However, she has her hands full with six kids. I included you in the six. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Best channel on RUclips! Keep up the great work! The homestead is looking good on the mountainside. I will be traveling by you in a week to Bremerton Washington where my daughter will be stationed in Navy. Hopefully, th wildfires will be controlled around you guys.
Ikr ours toilets run on roofwater so we are consured our toilets won't flush You just inspired me a 14 year old that just had his burtday today i love what you do and also want to be a man that can deal with every thing and just be a normal guys keep doing what you are doing Greats from belgium
I see you're doing a great job on the outside of your place but I was wondering when are you going to start working on the inside like finishing up the bathroom and kitchen and we are doing drywall will keep doing a great job and God blessing

Are you planning to put a roof above the porch? Also I thought originally you were planning to build your home into the hill. It looks like you changed your mind and decided to start again on a new slab. Is there a video about this decision? I love your videos so much. I find them really soothing to the soul. My only complaint is that you don’t post nearly enough. Keep it up!
The US Dept of Labor released a statistic this spring stating that within the next 3-5 years, the height of baby boomer retirement will hit. At that time, over 10,000 skilled labor positions will open up every-single-day.
Same here in Québec, Canada. The young turks are not interested in trades. It is a national tragedy, no less. Same in farm work. We have to import Mexicans and South Americans for the whole summer every year. Our kids won't do hard work at all. Even if the pay is good ! On the opposite, our foreigner friends are terrific workers. Many became close friends with the farmers and come back every season. I'm 66 years old, I had to retire due to illness but I was planning to work till 70 at least in my field, advertising management. Stressful, loooong hours but I loved every minute of it. We boomers learned our skills the hard way. Where did we go wrong with our kids ??
Good job. I was wondering when you were going to get around to doing that. It looks like the grade is towards the house. The place is coming along, looking great. When is the move in date?

Thank you for replying. I didn't want to get too personal but trying to figure out how someone else could try and do what you have done well it is hard. Thanks so much.
I'm not the smartest person in the world but I do know how to put a lockset in.My husband broke his key off in the door.I recently put a new toilet in.If I had left it to my husband it wouldn't have gotten done.My husband has almost 2 degrees but he will be the first to admit that he is not mechanically inclined.

Sounds like something my mom or sister would say! Like what, you thought it looked like crap in the photos? lol we know what they meant, but yeah its funny!
I agree with the skilled worker dilemma. Kids these days are expected to go to college even if that's not where their desires are. I don't agree with everything he says, but Mike Rowe (from Dirty Jobs fame) has a good push going with trying to get skilled workers back in the forefront of people's thinking.

An engineer who could not install a lock set?!? No wonder our country is in trouble. I have a degree in history with a minor in journalism and I have installed hundreds of lock-sets. As well as rebuilt engines, performed welding jobs, as well as.... Any engineer that could not install a lock set was either lazy or else wanted to give a young man a chance to earn money!
Rocky mountain lass Hmmm! All I would say is that I have also earned money in computer programming, Excel applications, driving forklift, warehouse management, purchasing....Point being one of the most potent pieces of advice my father ever gave me was, "Do not be afraid to fail. If you are afraid to fail, you will never succeed." I think men in our culture are completely afraid to fail and thus, rarely succeed. Look at Mr. Redpoppyranch. Do you think fear of failure ever paralyzed him?
FoxRcng708 I won't argue against you having spent whole days cursing engineers while trying to repair things. But, I will say that engineers do not have the final say. I don't know how many times in my career I have have had bean counters (cost accountants) say, "But will it work if...". And the answer is yes but....It cannot be repaired in the field....." And, guess what the final design is? I won't argue the input of cost accountants as, the business has to have a profit margin in order to pay me and be there in the future to support people trying to repair. But, there needs to be a balance between cost and repairability and in my not so humble opinion that balance is no longer considered.
It's amazing what you've done. You talk about when you were young and how you became licensed plumber and a good one. You must of had a good support system growing up. That is what is partly wrong with today's youth and being able to do these types of jobs. With people's attitude's, they don't support they're kids. They just tell them to have an attitude and stick up for yourself and it takes allot more than that. One thing I wanted to ask was about the concrete you still need to do. The posts your talking about putting in thirty inches are they to help the the rest of the concrete so it doesn't buckle or what? If you don't want to answer here, maybe you could explain a little more when you do the work and put it in the video? Thanks so much cause I've learned a bunch.
As far as your uncle goes, I am still trying to figure out how engineers can design things but not know how to assemble things far simpler than their designs. I hold a degree in electrical engineering, but insisted on getting some hands-on experience in automation controls prior to working as an engineer. This, unfortunately, was a bad idea as I could not get an engineering job with the experience of a builder of the very circuit types I would be designing. I was told at every interview that I was overqualified for what they were looking for. Common sense isn't so common after all. As to the projects, how are your orchard starts doing?
Why is the Tyvek still exposed on the exterior wall RH side of the front porch? Seems like you are jumping all over the project and not finishing anything. Be careful pouring those 2 slabs at once if you are doing them yourself. That's a lot of work for someone who doesn't do concrete every day even with a helper or two. If its as hot as you say its going to set up quick. Pour, screed, float and finish, if she sets up quick you are going to be screwed.
Problem with skilled trades these days is every employer wants 2-5 years experience! Trade schools are a waste of money if you arent employable nobody is willing to offer on the job training after attending a 1-2 yr tradeschool! God help us, id borrow a 100,000 grand for schooling to get a 50k a year job but id be living outta my car with no way to pay back the loan
Problem with your wife not working is if you died tomorrow she would get very little social security because she never paid in my parents were farmers and after selling the farm worked in town a few years before retiring and they get very little social security because when farming they never paid in or got a tax return everything was always a wash. So being a stay at home mother is not a good thing!
What about the rest of your siding. Why won't you ask for help so the siding is up and the gravel so everything on the outside is done so it don't look like crap that way. I think you need to swallow the pride and ask for help. You have to much projects going at once that way your you can get it done on the outside so your wife can drive up the driveway instead waiting for you
This is rapidly becoming my favourite RUclips channel.

I would build a scraper plate the clamps to the backhoe bucket. Become a general contractor and pick and choose what you do and when.

If you start a plumbing business you should be busy. I wish there were honest plumbers like you, Heath down where I live.
You will get it all done, one job at a time. You have a beautiful work ethnic. Love watching all your families videos. Everything takes time.
Red, Every time I watched your videos I cannot wait for you to post another one ...love watching your video 😁!

southernstyle69 😂 that's my favorite saying "you can't fix stupid", because it is so true!
My Grandfather called it "mother wit". If you don't have it, book sense isn't very useful!
Keep it up mate, starting on my own homestead here in South Africa you are a great inspiration.
Super nice , glad you have some help , fam , times is a must

Was thinking about tank house. If you could find an old used round, small grain silo, made out of corrugated steel, Something just big enough to fit tank in, and have enough room to walk around the tank for servicing tank. You could set it into hillside no problem, their galvanized, and would last for years. Could do the same for well pump house too, just burm soil around smaller silo, or large corrugated culvert, maybe damaged one from county, or state.
Not a bad idea...
I am glad to see more progress cant wait to see you get your slabs done.
Have a good time with your familys!!! see you soon.
It's really looking Great. I would LUV to see functioning window shutters on the house, then you'll have a fort.
Great job mate, plumbing business sounds promising, good luck!
Happy meal and don't give up!! More to come, as much is allready done!!
Thanks for posting.
I think it would be nice to see more of your wife. However, she has her hands full with six kids. I included you in the six. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Lol... She also refers to me as one of her kids.
Thank you for another wonderful video. Best to you on your homestead.
Here in n.e Missouri, we had about two weeks with temps in the low to mid 70's. Now it's back in the upper 90's. 🙁

Can you get geothermal as a form of heating? It is wildly used here in Sweden and it works wonder.
I would love to but it would cost way more than I can spend.

R. Blakehole imagine how useful a degree in lesbian dance theory or gender studies is going to be?
Love your stories weather true or not.lol
Thank you!
Hi, how about a small cabin at the top of your property for guests that come and make comments like your sister 🤪.
The posts require a deep footing to prevent movement from the freezing.
Hi how many acres of land have you got
41.7
The pay isn't getting any better. You would expect for there being a shortage of skilled laborers that the pay would increase. Not in my area.
Sorry, I don't quite understand what a mini-excavator could do (better), that your backhoe cannot?
A mini excavator can climb hills safely where my backhoe struggles.
Dude where is the stone under the concrete? No stone, frost , freeze & thaw will heave that concrete pad everywhere!
Does anyone know what kind of boots he's wearing? I'm looking to get a new pair and I like those but I haven't gotten a reply yet lol
They are Justin Boots.
I don't get it, you have a machine sitting idle when you work with a shovel..
Fine tuning.
A second bathroom?
Yes.
Redd Arn,t sisters fun.lol
Yes they are.
Haha! Siblings...
That siding will be tied into the addition.
oh gotcha
Problem with skilled trades these days is every employer wants 2-5 years experience! Trade schools are a waste of money if you arent employable nobody is willing to offer on the job training after attending a 1-2 yr tradeschool! God help us, id borrow a 100,000 grand for schooling to get a 50k a year job but id be living outta my car with no way to pay back the loan
I trained on the job and made $50k my second year. That was 20 years ago.
I don't have a facebook acc or paypal but I would like to buy a hat
Ask your daughter you might be surprised.
Wrong... Life insurance
