I was only 1-2 years old when this show first premiered! And, even worse, I have not yet developed my ultimate interest in musical theatre till years AFTER it's London production moved to L.A.!
I saw the first national tour. MAGNIFICENT. The show deserved a better run and should have won Best Musical, espeically over the mediocre Fosse. Fosse deserved better.
@@richardmayora1289 I hated Fosse and Contact winning because none of them are Musicals. Especially Fosse, which is just a compilation of his musicals.
Zak Keil Why would he not use it? For these kinds of events, rehearsal time is generally quite limited. Even if expense were of no concern (and when is that ever the case?), union rules limit how much rehearsal time performers can put in; beyond certain parameters, the whole endeavor is classified differently, and the rules for performers' pay and conditions change. In this rehearsal, they're working not just on music/vocals, but on the physical staging and movement, minimal as it is. So it would certainly make sense for him to incorporate an element like a crutch, if it's being used in the performance. He won't have a whole lot more rehearsal time to fully integrate it into his performance.
Oh I wasn’t prepped for Davis to roll up. Reminds me to revisit his performance in Sweeney Todd in concert, which is my favorite thing in the world ever
Believe it or not, this isn’t his first time in this role! He actually first played Old Solider/Judge Roan in the Mark Taper Forum production of Parade with T.R. Knight as Leo and Lara Pulver as Lucille! Heck, he even played Hugh Dorsey in the second mounting of 3-D Theatrical’s production of Parade, which had Rufus Bonds Jr. reprising the role of Jim Conley which he originated on Broadway in 1998!
@@clooimx It is, and he was also Derek Klena's understudy(in the role of Michael) in the original Broadway production of The Bridges of Madison County, was a replacement Mormon and Ensemble in The Book of Mormon, and recently originated Roger Daves/Ensemble in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical!
That is David Gaines! He's best known for his portrayal of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, but he's also the original "Man" in the National Theatre tryout of Whistle Down The Wind, AND he can also be seen as Anthony in the 2000-2001 Philharmonic Concerts of Sweeney Todd, with George Hearn, Patti Lupone, and Neil Patrick Harris! This concert is actually the second time he's played this role of "The Old Soilder/Judge Roan" since the 2009 Mark Taper Forum production of Parade(with Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight as Leo Frank, and BBC Shrelock's Lara Pulver(Irene Adler) as Lucile! ruclips.net/video/dyVHN9ze55E/видео.html ), but he's ALSO played Hugh Dorsey in the second run of 3-D Theatricals's production of Parade(which also had Rufas Bonds Jr. reprising his Broadway originated role of Jim Conley) as well! 3dtheatricals.org/past-shows/2017-2018-season/parade-2/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davis_Gaines Bonus fact: he's also the singing voice for Chamberlain in The Swan Princess!
BRING IT BACK TO BROADWAY!!!!!! Such an amazing story but i never got to see it live.... :(

I saw the original at Lincoln Center.
Extraordinarily beautiful and heartbreaking.

I saw it twice on Broadway..an incredible, gorgeous, tragic show.
Charlie Franklin is an amaazing singer. And damn fine too.
Charlie's voice though...in tears
I believe I spot a wild Andy Mientus in the background!
Yes. He played Britt Craig.
I KNOW I WATCHED THIS AND SAW HIM AND WAS SHOCKED! JEREMY JORDAN AND ANDY MIENTUS AND LAURA BENANTI.
I love that old soldier (who, of course, is not very old; I expect he gets aged for the show). Beautiful voice and delivery.
Why does he need a prop for rehearsals?

+Zak Keil I say he's using it to get into his character more since the old soilder is one legged.
Also, he's 61 years old here.
i was just in this show so parade stuff is all over my feed and im so glad i saw this

Can I have this cast recording? That'd complete most of my life. Preesh.
I don't know this young man's name, but he is wonderful! What a great voice!
Charlie Franklin I believe, he's great! =)

Michael William Ybarra That’s awesome! Thanks for the info. I was there to see him at the Mark Taper and just remembered his name.
He is great

Yes, he is. He plays Tom Watson in this concert, to be exact.
Here's a bootleg of the full concert:

Good times
Davis Gaines!
Is there a cast album for this somewhere?
Samantha Lofgren there is a parade cast album, but it’s the obc , not this one
