I always was interesting what plastic ppl use for action figures🧐. Is it connections parts, pags and others part from one type of plastic? Just interesting, anyone know something about it?
For people doing this as a hobby without manufacturing in China, most people use polyurethane resin(liquid plastic) of different harnesses and flexibility. You can tint your plastic before you put in into the mold. Action figures that you buy at the store that were manufactured in China use a combination of ABS, PVC, & POM plastics. ABS is used for large pieces and are hollowed out to save costs. Think of Lego plastic, that's what ABS is. PVC is more expensive and is ridged yet semi flexible(depending on shore hardness). It's used on figures that have "Pop" joints so the parts can easily fit together using a combination of mushroom pegs or balls at the end of each joint. ABS is usually used for the Torso of the figure which would be split in half to trap the Shoulder Disks and whatnot. PVC is generally used on Limbs, but could also be used on an entire figure. POM is used for Joint Pins and Disks for low friction and super toughness. I recommend watching Hasbros ZBrush video where a Product Designer from Hasbro toys talks about the different plastics and actually shows some demo stuff of Articulated Action Figures on his computer. It's for Star Wars figures.
Hi. Cool skills. I'd love to sculpt toys. I wonder where I can learn. Where do you get the materials and tool, also where do you get the plastic and know how to mold it into something like Hot Toys? God bless, Proverbs 31
