    Hey Mark, they used 3 Trans Ams in the movie. The bridge jump scene was a big block Chevrolet with a 4 speed, the second car had a Pontiac 400 and 3 speed auto, the third car was an Oldsmobile 403 with a 3 speed auto. The shaker is a good indicator: T/A 6.6 is a Pontiac 400, and 6.6 Litre is an Olsmobile 403. Awesome builds you have going on. Keep the videos rollin. Thanks

    I’ve built these for 17 years and your explanation was pretty good. Only the rear axle is always driven. The front axle doesn’t get driven until you engage the interlock.

      If all 4 wheel positions have the exact same traction and weight distribution, they will all be driven equally. If the rear axle positions have more weight and traction, the front axle will get 100 percent of the power, resulting in a possible spin. If the rear axle is ALWAYS being driven as you say, how is it possible that if I am in a situation where one of my front axle wheel positions is in a dip/whole, I get stuck?

    • @2ndchancetrucker874

      @@wadelevan1787 I could explain how an I.A.D. (Inter axle differential works having built thousands of them) but in simple terms unless you put air the power divider absolutely no power goes to the front axle it’s bypassed

    • @wadelevan1787
      @wadelevan1787 Год назад

      @@2ndchancetrucker874did you see my question? Explain that situation if what you are saying is true. If the front axle get zero power without the divider locked, how can my front axle positions spin in tricky traction situations?

    The missing part on the front of the front diff is called the power divider. It's essentially a differential between the 2 rear ends, and lets them move indepentantly. When all 4 wheels are making good contact, all 4 are receiving power. If one lifts, the power divider locked will do the same thing as a locker on an axle. If you get 2 wheels spinning, it will not help. That's when you need side to side lock up.

  • @1one3_Racing
    @1one3_Racing Год назад

    Your diff explanation was good enough. Depending on the make and model and diff the front diff will send equal drive everywhere. The interlock is a diff lock but front/back not side/side. Otherwise your hung up axle will just spin.
    It's why most trucks (at least in Australia) will wear the left rear and front right pair more than the others. You need to rotate.

  • @tater_relocater
    @tater_relocater Год назад +2

    The rear diff passenger side drives 90% of the time the inter axle lock locks the front axle in . I’m not a expert but I stayed at a holiday inn express last night . Right rear tires wear out first .

  • @MG45-70
    @MG45-70 Год назад

    Lots of trucker theory’s on how the tandem drive works. The way it actually works, is the power divider is a third differential. So if all 4 drives have equal traction, all 4 drive the same. If 1 of the 4 slips, it spins out. Which is why you can have any of them spin, depending on which looses traction. When you engage the power divider lock, or inter-axle lock, it locks the front and the back together locking the third differential. Now you have to break traction on one front and one back to spin out. Then if equipped with a no-spin/Detroit locker or an air locker, you lock the rear axle together and eliminate that differential. Same for the front of equipped. The illusion that the back does all the work is that it is typically the first one to break traction as it has the least weight on it.

    Find you 2 long bolts that are the same size as your differential bolts cut the heads off. Remove bolts insert the long bolts. When your pulling the diff you can slide it out on the longer bolts a couple inches and it will stay in place. I grab the yoke and the top bolt hole and pick them perfectly straight every time. It helps if you’re resealing a diff and it help when you’re reinstalling the diff.

    I know it’s probably a little late for this, but if you make the Y for the exhaust in the center of the truck the smoke from the truck will come out even. If you notice in your intro when lbl is pulling the trailer it comes out in even. It’s a small detail but it makes the whole truck just look better when rolling Coal.

    When all the diff locks and inter axle locks are open its going to send power to whatever set of duals on ONE axle once there is loss of traction there. Engaging the inter axle diff lock ensures power is sent to both axles in a tandem axle drive configuration, not sure how tri drives work in that respect (do they have two inter axle diff locks??). Now, if one wheel on each axle has a loss traction you will still be sitting still, spinning the one set of duals on EACH axle now that has no traction. The diff locks will lock both sets of duals on each end of those two axles (or however many drive axles) together and now all sets of drive wheels will be turning no matter what. Don't expect to be able to steer if the ground is slippery and you will be tearing up the drivetrain and/or tires if you drive with the diff locks engaged on dry pavement.
