Nice result! I get the same resist result using acrylic inks on my gel plate. I sometimes mix acrylic inks with standard acrylic paints to give them a little more fluidity and intensity of color. Also, the neon acrylic inks remain translucent, so the effect is a nice glazing of the subsequent layers. The color on the original prints remain visible, but are glazed over with a wash of color, in other words. For instance, I pulled a print that had nice abstract leafy shapes in a blue-green overtone, but I really wished for them to have been more greenish, so... I laid on some neon yellow and orange acrylic ink over the entire gel plate, brayering until it it was a little more tacky and was less likely to resist and pool, like your watery mix did. I placed my original print onto the plate right away and left it for about five minutes before pulling. The result was a nice, even coating of orangey-yellow, which rendered the blue a beautifully glazed green and the background white a nice rich warm yellow. -Enjoying your channel! Have fun!
Wonderful 👏. You have such a soothing voice and make such calm videos full of inspiration and ideas. I love how so many people comment and interact with you on here. Your channel is one of the best on RUclips 🙏
What's not to enjoy. Always love it when you say " I just can't help myself" as your pieces always turn out magnificently with the collage pieces at the end. Your videos are just amazing to watch and I am learning so much with your different techniques with paints and oil resist. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.
“I should have left it alone but I can’t help myself”..how many times have I said that to myself? But you know, it’s your art and your vision, and your fun, and I for one love the collages you add. They add texture, interest, and solicit questions. That’s what abstract art is to me.
I am so happy that I found your videos on RUclips. Your art is so amazing and I love to listen to you guiding us through your process. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
you are the artist - you see things differently than others - and your work is spectacular. I often think your first pull is so powerful and then you add your magic and it becomes equally powerful
Yeas, I also love the red parts, then I would have waited couple of days before adding collage. And that´s what´s beautiful about art - to follow one´s heart in a truly never ending adventure ! Thank you for charing - it is always exciting !
The careful color selection of the two paints to pull the print with… spectacular intermixing. In my work that’s the fascination for me - to see what happens and not know in advance. Thank you for another beauty.
With art, you have to do what makes your heart sing. It's not about the viewer, although what makes your heart sing will undoubtedly find others for whom it makes their hearts sing, as well.
Thank you for continuing to share your process! I think your additions brought a better balance, additional interest, and a completeness, without losing the power of the original black and red marks. And that background, sooo yummy. I did have some anticipation as you added the collage for fear it would distract from the already stunning painting. Clearly you know what you're doing, and have good intuition. I'm the novice's novice hobbyist, enjoying dabbling in painting, and have such fun watching these abstract creations materialize and your sharing of your artful technique and thought process. So, again, thank you.
I, too, love your 'signature' scribble collage pieces - and I think they added a nice punch to this piece. Btw - I had a real "wow!" moment when you added that very cool printed accent. Such a genius idea, but so simple!!! I can't believe I had never thought to try that. Very, very effective, what a great design tool! Thanks for sharing! I absolutely love that you likened it to a cartouche, what a lovely thought.
From the title of this episode, I thought you were going to slap some globs of vasoline on the geli plate, then add a layer of acrylic and pull a print! :) I think I would have used the photocopy as a horizontal to contrast the two verticals, but ce la vie! But then you added a 2nd horizontal photocopy collage shape. Enthusiastic about the prints!
Thanks for the idea Don! I thought of making a loose mix of baby oil and vaseline so it is brushable, but that is for a future video. My MO for placing collage is not planned, it is instinctive, and I change my mind often as you noticed!
What do you think is the best paper to use that is strong enough to pull off the gelli…and do you suggest hot press or cold press for your work or which one do you like better. ..love your work…
What are you using for your stencil here? Mylar? I would like to try your techniques on fine paper and maybe stretched canvas. Thanks! Your videos are keeping me up at night! LOL. I'm so fascinated by your artistry.
I take that back, sorry! The small stencil for the red dots is made of a plastic folder divider which came from a discount store. Please check out ruclips.net/video/aVlpc5pXo-g/видео.html
I m a beginner with the gelli plate. Would you please explain the term "oil resist" Does it mean that before applying the black paint you condition the plate with baby oil? The effect is only for black paint or any color as well.
Before you tackle the gelli plate I strongly advise you to practice on a sketchpad first with oil paint vs watercolor or wax crayon or oil pasteks and waterbased paints. The principle is simple. oil and water don't mix and the result is a pretty lace like texture.
I love the effects of paint beading up on a gel plate as well, yours is stunning! I love pressing the paper with my hand as well for the most part, I can only use my right hand a my pinky is contracted on the left. Your hands and arms look baby soft and young even though your voice sounds much older. I am always afraid to leave the paper on for 10 minutes because my paper sometimes sticks to the plate and leaves the paint on the plate with the top layer of paper. Do you think leaving it on longer lessens the chances of that happening?
Try to oil your plate once in a while, and it lessens the chance of paper sticking. Also a better paper ( 90 lb upwards) is better to use than thinner lightweight paper. Experiment and see what happens. Good luck and happy printing!
hello, I find your work very interesting and I subscribe to your channel. I live in France and I can't find a large gel pad like yours...Do you know where I can find one? Thank you and good day !
11:20 Viewer alert: “But anyway, I will air dry this & do a recap; so, don’t go away…” When I hear this, & there are 10 minutes to go in the video, sometimes I hear an oft repeated phrase which follows, as I just did! 🎉

I really like this print! Your style is distinctive, the scribbles and collage are like signature elements. Lots of fun to watch you explore.

You definitely have a very distinctive style with the circles and the collage or your scribbles but each one is an individual piece of fabulous ART 🎉
Love your art and enjoy your relaxing voice while I watch your videos. It is like a having a gentle mediation whilst having an art lesson. Perfect.

Fabulous!
Both the first pull and then the additional color and collage…outstanding and very inspirational. Thank you for experimenting 👍
If your heart is happy then keep going! I find your process interesting and thank you for your time and energy in sharing it with us!! ❤
thanks for watching!
Love this one. Great that you add what you enjoy. The ART is for you to express. Will be viewing more and trying this water resist technique. Thanks.
Thanks so much 😊
At first I didn't like the addition of the red until you added the curved collage paper. It turned out great. It's better and you are having fun. 😊
Thank you so much!
I like the collage. It adds another layer of interest.
The whole piece works beautifully. Collage gives it an extra dimension, great!
That first pull! 😋😋😋😋
You do you ❤ I appreciate your fun and sharing you.

Absolutely superb..Each addition enhanced the print…Congratulations..
Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
You have to explore. It’s all good. I like the red on the right side
Your work is so unique and inspiring! Thank you for sharing with us!!
A little tweak of technique and a different look with simple elements.
Take good care of yourself Fulton.
Thanks as always my friend!

Another winner! Thank you for sharing.
I love the collage.
i love your unique style and collage is part of that quirky style :) inspiration to create , thank you!!
Thank you , love the print both ways Beautiful

My Fav . . . Its AMAZING ! ! !
Love this! Its beautiful!
Beautiful
I love this technique. Great piece, although it reads strongly to me when viewed horizontally with the red at bottom left. 🤩
Beautiful 1st print not definately a stand alone! Love this technique and will try it today 😉
Have fun!
Another great demonstration and artwork. Thank you 🙏
My pleasure 😊
Yes very cool!
awesome technique thanks for sharing!
Good work!!!!!
Thanks so much!
Love it!🌸
Thank you! 😊
Love, love, love
Trop génial ! Je vous adore 🙏💝
Absolutely gorgeous!❤️
Love this.
thanks so much!
Very Cool . 😅 preferred the red to be on other side but thats just me being very picky . Love your work . Mgt
Being picky as an artist is good! Taken to the extreme you become anal retentive and paralyzed. Been there done that!
Quel bel ouvrage, bravo!
merci!
What do you think is the best paper to use that is strong enough to pull off the gelli…and do you suggest hot press or cold press for your work or which one do you like better. ..love your work…
I prefer cold press, it is a beefy strong paper than can withstand pulling.
What are you using for your stencil here? Mylar? I would like to try your techniques on fine paper and maybe stretched canvas. Thanks! Your videos are keeping me up at night! LOL. I'm so fascinated by your artistry.
Ha ha! No stencils this time. Thanks for watching!

Hello, when you clean the playe with baby oil, do you just wipe it or do use soap to get rid of the oil? Thank you😊
After wiping the plate with oil just wipe it clean with a rag or a paper towel, no soap needed. Some artists even leave the oily film overnight!
I m a beginner with the gelli plate. Would you please explain the term "oil resist"

Is this a mix of oil paint AND acrylic paint?
Did I understand that correctly?
BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!!😃♥️
no it's acrylic only but applied to an oily surface
hello, I find your work very interesting and I subscribe to your channel. I live in France and I can't find a large gel pad like yours...Do you know where I can find one? Thank you and good day !
Hello Nadine, Here in the US it is available from dickblick.com www.dickblick.com/products/gelli-arts-gel-printing-plates/
Do you varnish your collage or frame under glass? What glue do you use?
i prefer to have them framed, but for varnish I like Mod Podge. It comes in both gloss , satin and matte.
@@artwhisperer88 thank you
Did you use watered down acrylic paint?
Yes.
@@artwhisperer88 ok thx. I appreciate you answering all of my questions …. I am soooo inspired by you :-)
How do you finish these? Spray varnish?
No varnish. This piece will be framed with a mat.
I once varnished a piece with high gloss Mod Podge for a different effect, Please watch ruclips.net/video/DJfqlnW4HNU/видео.html

The oft repeated phrase, of course: “I just can’t let well enough alone.”
