- This video shows the heartwarming bond between Koko and Penny as they walk through a forest on The Gorilla Foundation grounds in Woodside, CA. They stop to look at the towering redwood tree and eat some wild fennel. It's a simple, yet touching display of friendship and connection amidst the beauty of nature.
I miss KoKo, she was amazing! I hope there are others like Penny who are able to teach more, sign language. RIP Koko, you’re missed.❤

Can someone enlighten me as to why was Koko kept at a house and not put with other gorillas ? They are so social, it's sad to see her as a solo gorilla. Noticing the leash on the video made me wonder why she got in th is situation to start with.

I DO wonder what on earth Penny would be able to archive with the leash she’s carrying…
I don’t think that, if the plan is to use the leash if Koko doesn’t want to go in the direction Penny is going or if Koko doesn’t want to come along at all anymore… putting her on a leash would not be of any use whatsoever if she wants to pull a huge gorilla along………
HOWEVER……!!!!
While typing the above, I actually realized, that the leash FAR MORE LIKELY is something Koko and Penny have been training on and that in case Koko might indeed need ‘some convincing’ to come along, the leash will work as a POSITIVE (!) psychological support item, more as a physical thing to remind Koko what Penny really wants from her.
