I think he's wrong in a sense because it always seems like he has a fairly large ego. His career outside of "Seinfeld" has largely been unremarkable and sometimes a disaster. His two shots at his own t.v. show were bombs, cancelled in the first season. He always brings up that his a proper theatre actor and doesn't need t.v. work.
George is a great character. He's so detestable that you love watching him.
