A MOAB will definitely destroy buildings and infrastructure. You're probably thinking of a neutron bomb.
as opposed to Jimmy Neutron, who did not bomb.
i really like a lot of his videos, but when he tries to use military terms he finds the worst ways to butcher their usage to shoehorn them in.
he's a rock nerd, not a military nerd. We love him for being confidently wrong, splatt is allowed@@jbennett4196
IIRC, MOAB is just short for "Mother Of All Bombs", or just a cute name for a massively devastating (but non-nuclear) bomb.
@Dosbomber Massive Ordnance Air Blast, but yeah, the funnier one is Mother.
Grabbed this when you first streamed it. It was.. okay back then. Recent updates have made it truly enjoyable. This is what so many "RTS + Shooter" experiences try for. Red Solstice does a great job at the Twin-Stick Shooter + RTS style and is another one of the "labor of love" types.
Also, you're thinking of a Neutron weapon, not a MOAB. Moab is a traditional HE explosive.
I had tried it once, and the intro / new player experience was trash. For whatever reason I could not understand the damn beeping map ping that eventually turned me off the game. Did they ever fix the overall new player experience or is it still hot garbage?
@thomaslau9926 As the project director hot garbage. It's an aspect of gameplay I'm not really happy with. But I don't have the resources to fully fix till we at least get caught up on the road map a bit more.
That Ping was the Civilian news reporter sound you can mute it by clicking on the bull horn.
It's mean to relay where Chelsey is and infection growth
@@HalcyonWinds Much respect, not just for the game (looking good despite the jank so far!), but also for the brutal honesty of your comment. 👏👏👏
@@HalcyonWinds Can I have a question ? With how fast and good the AI nowaday, do your studio make use of them to help speed up the development for the road map and fix the bug here ? (not to mention help save the cost in development more. Of course you still need to have some coder, artist or similar to make sure the stuff AI create are suitable for it. If you watch 'All The Jobs AI Will Replace In 5 Years (And Jobs That It Won’t)', you will understand what I mean here)
@@HalcyonWinds "as the project director of hot garbage.." You savage, you. I'll vote this one up for Steam's "Labor of Love" every year. Thanks for sticking with it.
Interesting. The disease at play reminds me a little of the plague from the book Stranger by Simon Clark. The disease was referred to colloquially as 'jumpy' due to the late stage symptoms before someone turned (long incubation time before you went psycho), and the end result was called a 'hornet' for both the extreme aggression and the tendency to form 'hives' out of masses of infected jammed into a single small space. There was a psychic/hive mind element to the whole affair as well. The hives, BTW, didn't spawn more hornets. Their purpose was far nastier.
go on, im listening
@@CrazyDutchguys Different series but I read one once where they utilized dens as incubatory breeding dens so that very well may be the case for this book as well.
I need a part 2... did you secure the beach head? were you able to setup a mini safe zone? is the brave platoon still alive? I need answers....🙏😱🤔
No he probably didn't lol, this is the type of game that gets ya when your not watching, its soooo good.
@@CohnmanTheBudbarian Yeah even a small lapse of attention will get you brutally slaughtered

I was just about to post this. I need closure. Did the Kenny Loggins's come through and knock out that big nest? Did patient zero get cleaned up? Are our streets safe?!
Such a big fan of this game, been playing it on and off for around 2 years. Even with the jank and QOL issues, the game is so unique and there's nothing like it out there
Have you played zombie city defense 2 before? That is pretty similar i think
This game is like a dream zombie game for me. What i would give for a bigger more experienced team to be working on it. Like this concept with aaa funding is a dream game, but alas aaa has succumb to profit over fun policies
ooh, dream zombies.
so beautiful when they ask for brains, you give it to them!
Maybe it will have a custom map editor like the old rts games of the 90s and early 2000s
@velarswood dream feature lol 100% would be amazing
@anubisfox5765 a wet dream at this point lol.
I'd love to see a mixture of the mechanics from this game with Infection Free Zone.
MOAB would easily destroy a few city blocks local to the detonation point. It would also have the effect of a hyperbaric bomb, of sorts, by creating a massive high-pressured air blast. When confined to caves and tunnels, such as when it was utilized in Afghanistan, those pressure waves pretty much shred humans, or at least destroy enough of their anatomical structure to kill or severely wound them.
A neutron bomb would be the one which "melts" organic creatures with ionizing radiation while leaving structures untouched. Of course...those hypothetically emit an isotope with a half life of about 50 years, so in 150, 200, 250 years we might be able to reinhabit those structures with a safe degree of radiation exposure :D
And so called 'neutron bombs' are in fact just an atomic weapon but with an increased gamma ray and neutron out put.
So still very destructive. The heavy gamma ray pulse upon explosion was intended to penetrate tank armor, injuring or killing the crew and the neutrons rendering the tank hideously radioactive and so not recoverable.
@@owensthilaire8189neutron bombs have relatively low yield and are detonated at very high altitude to keep damage low. Otherwise, yes they are nuclear bombs.
@@dultanur I'd gather the EMP effect from high altitude detonation would have a greater impact than the blast or radiation itself.
Imagine just shutting off power to a major region, such as the entirety of Western Europe or the US Eastern seaboard? Million upon millions of deaths in the following weeks, guaranteed.
@@0num4 yeah it would. But the aim of a military strike is not to kill civilians in a large area, so that wouldn't be your goal when you employ a neutron weapon. The text book use is on military infrastructure, so they can be captured and used by the attacker.
@@dultanur that's Western doctrine. China or another bad actor may not play by these rules.
I dunno man, I feel like calling this "open world survival" is way misleading
Agreed
Nah you’re just not used to the perspective it’s definitely considered open world
So by your definition the stalker games are not open world? *a horde starts to gather in the horizon* MUHUAHAHAHAHAHAHA SLAY HIM MY MINIONS
Slap rts at the end and perfect. Once it gets those operators with people to jump in on the game would be fun as hell.
@@SirQuantization nah, it is not open world. That's like saying Star Craft 2 is open world.
Been playing this game since it came out. Its come a very long way so far. Fantastic concept and dev team
So glad to see you play this! Im friends with the lead dev on steam and he's so passionate about this game! it's come so far in just a year too!
What a cool combination of genres. This game has a TON of potential.
This game has a lot of potential definitely wanna stay up to date on it
I've been following this game for actual years, cool to see it here.
I really enjoy the way you present these games. Even for something I'm not going to get, I'll still watch because you make the games seem interesting. I don't like the micromanagement that comes with rts games, but I think it would be cool to be one of the ground guys when they incorporate 1st person multiplayer.
This game makes me feel like I’m playing as blackwatch from PROTOTYPE and I love it
OMG YOU LEGEND! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!!
Save San Francisco from zombies....isnt that whats happening there now???
Yes 😢
Not really. It's more like invite and accommodate the zombies. So virtuous!
This looks awesome. I hope the devs keep improving it. The only other (good) zombie themed rts I've seen was "they are billions"
This game is one of those that focuses mostly on gameplay and things like UI, graphics (not in the traditional HD sense but clarity, units and buildings are hard to see from far away, no outlines or ) or QOL features. The gameplay is great, however it needs much more technical support to truly shine. The co-op feature sounds really cool, more games should utilize unilateral co-op features like this.
Duely noted! 👌...
What other kind of QOL features would you like to see long term?
@@HalcyonWinds I haven't played the game so I can't really say, but as a viewer I think that buildings and units should be visually distinct from the surrounding terrain so you can zoom out and see where everything is clearly, either by using outlines, icons, or some other system. Some games will use uniforms and building colors to be distinctive, which you have done with some buildings being yellow. You could also have a building list on the side of the screen, showing health bars and snaps the camera to them if you click on them similar to the squad list. I'm no game dev, but I hope these tips are helpful.
@@zombieranger3410 I will note these observations down and come back to them after we finish the carrier. We plan on revamping/cleaning up the cerc a bit around the time we add the Abrams. I allocated some time for UI during this pass
MOAB stand for mother of all bombs. Its specifically designed to level mountain side bunkers.... its would lay absolute devastation to all 'Infrastructure' with a ten block radius.... Splattercat with all respect I believe you were referring to a Nutron Bomb, which destroys biological material but leaves Infrastructure relatively intact... Electronics not shielded would still suffer heavily.
Not to mention, a neutron bomb in a location this relatively small would be a terrible idea. Every living person outside the immediate kill zone would still suffer catastrophic radiation sickness.
that's just its nickname...
correctly, MOAB stands for 'Massive Ordnance Air Blast'
Super awesome video also side note other people noted a MOAB - would cause complete havoc 😂- “it’sa big boy”
Hey Mr. Splattercat, I just want you to know that your content has had an impact on someone. To be honest I watch your videos every now and then not just because the assurance of quality but mainly for reminiscing back on my younger days (which feels weird; I’m only 30) but I started with your Fire Watch play through when they were first coming out and I really remember your Sunless Sea Zubmariner playthrough. I haven’t kept up with you lately but I honestly and personally hope you do well in life.
Holy fuck I just looked at the dates of those of play throughs and I’m old.
Has it really been years? In any case, thank you for mentioning the persistent bugs. I've been on the fence about this one, it looks fun, but I'm still going to wait it out and see how it pans out.
As far as I can see, he's covered it once per year for the past 3 years. So this video is the 4th time he's covered it. Time flies.
@@try2bcool I only remember one, maybe two videos on this game from splat, really. But I believe you, my memory sucks.
I have bin playing and watching this game when it first was available. This is a good game with lovely active development. Base building defending expand. Just lovely
its really cool they've added the aircraft carrier and the ability to start where u want cause last time i played it your just ust start on the smallest end island and had to push pretty much on foot and it was reasonably difficult to set up choke points... lots of restarting the game cause the zeds got too close of a starting point and just wiped you early... love that now u get to start wherever you like.. it actually makes me want to reinstall the game again... definitely cant wait for multiplayer tho
Thank you for reminding me about this game - forever a legend!
Looks very interesting, will keep an eye on this game !
I must say this, though: I understand it's early access and that there's different priorities, but... That strafing run by the A10 was sad. I was spoiled by World in Conflict. To this day, I think nobody has that game beat in terms of how cool it is in showing fire support.
One of the best RTS games out there, and I don't usually play them either lol. Glad I was able to play it on GOG again.
The whole VFX and Animations for call ins and so gets revamp in the next months. they are polishing some of the game features, the Carrier gets water animation and an landing Craft this week and they want to polish the doctrine tree in the
Next weeks. they want the Abrams and Bradley and the vehicles get the Chaos Vehicle System from Unreal Engine 5.3 and so much more.
this game gets with every Update better
This reminds me of WORLD IN CONFLICT. Nice gameplay.
Glad to see this awesome game finally getting some spotlight!
never would have checked this game without out, this is great
I not into zombie games but commanding carrier and sending units to large city - thats so cool :) ... I wish there was S.H.I.E.L.D. themed game like this :)
MOAB stands for Massive Ordinance Air Burst. It will definitely destroy buildings and infrastructure, as it is designed to remove entire grid squares at a time.
Treasure Island looking quite a bit different lol. And I guess they built out more artificial island from Angel island. Interesting concept. Maybe one day we'll fill in half of the Bay to fit more people here!
correction to you, a moab would most certainly flatten a city block, you would need chemical agents to kill biological stuff without destroying infrastructure.
>Multiplaer planned
Well that's an extremely concerning thing to hear.
25:20 i think he didn't see a sneaky spawner already on his side of island...
Splat a MOAB isn't some magical device that can explode without damaging buildings. It's short for "Mother Of All Bombs" and it's just a giant bomb. It wreaks the same utter desolation as every weapon of mass destruction.
This looks actually nice. Its kinda my type :D Nice
Which version of the game were you playing?
I was intrigued enough to get the game myself only to find out the aircraft carrier was a stable object and the bombing run couldnt destroy the bridges.
Regardless, thank you for introducing me to this game.
Some very interesting mechanics tossed in here.
Got this went Splatt first streamed it cos ot gave me World In Conflict vibes. It was very jank but very fun but ultimately all one had to do was secure the bridge between the 2 big islands and you win basically.
Crows likely broke that strat and its been a hot minute since that update dropped and I didnt even play that. So let’s see if the game has had enough more time in the oven to be enjoyable again.
finally a game that doesnt redicule trained military over bunch of surviving mob of civilians
It‘s not an Aircraft Carrier, it‘s an amphibious assault ship.
Splatter.... A MOAB is a bomb that releases explosive gas to the environment before detonating it and creates the biggest non-nuclear explosion in the US arsenal. You can drop one off the coast and let it suck out the oxygen from the streets, but dropping it directly will cause MASSIVE damage.
That aside, cool that it gets another review, I play this game since the time you had limitied units you can actually send out of the base
A zombie game really is best represented by San Francisco. Well done devs
I managed to win this game twice, still have lots of things that is unclear to me. Like…the tip notifications told me to purchase masks for soldiers, yet I didn’t see any. And there’s the evacuation mechanism, it always intrigued me because sometimes civilians are really cooperative, sometimes they don’t…..and I don’t know what the heck caused the inconsistency 😂 Also, the way I played this game is built as many worm interruptors , and make helicopters to fight . The flame throwers of scientists are awesome as well. But it also showed me a problem…sometimes your soldiers can attack enemy buildings, sometimes they can’t….. I would say this game got potential, yet the tutorial has lots of room to improve 😂
Also, I never sent captain Winter outside of the base, I don’t see the need of taking the risk. I mean, she ain’t that good..
I remember there used to be a multiplayer RTS/fps where one team played monsters and another played humans, dwarfs and elfs. One player on each team was the commander playing the RTS part the other players played the units in fps mode. I can't remember the name and it's probably dead by now since i played it at least 10 years ago. But if this gets co-op/multiplayer it could potentially became a more advanced player vs com variant of that. Wishlisted it for now but im definitely getting it on sale or when co-op is implemented.
There is/was a half life mod like that as well. Sci-fi environment, humans vs monsters. You could evolve with the monsters as well. It was mind-blowing good bout 20 y ago. Truly ahead of its time
@@vicsamsungtab Natural Selection! That shit was my jam for quite a few years.
@Matthias129 YES! I forgot the name! Gosh I gotta look it up if it's still alive or if they remade it. Why can't they do a game like that nowadays?
@@vicsamsungtab They actually made a full sequel!
Dude,,,, that's not a MOAB you're talking about. Moabs absolutely will level everything. They were designed originally to flatten terrain. Dropping a MOAB would be the same as dropping a low yield nuke just without the radiation.
its a helicopter carrier. also where are the carrier's onboard defences? like the Ciws or the C ram
This is coming between Saturday and early next week we plan on adding a few research items to allow cerc players to weaponize their carrier
@@HalcyonWinds let's gooo!!! Thanks for all ur hard work
Where is part 2!? I really like this concept and picked up the game with classic camo pack!
Fantastic concept competently executed but the game could be amazing
Ive been dreaming of wanting to make a game like this like wildlands mix red alert sandbox
donesn't "M.O.A.B" mean Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb? isn't it the "biggest" conventionnal bomb type? i mean "non-nuclear" ? it would mean there would be environnemental destruction ;p
Mother Of All Bombs.
Yes, and the idea that "concussion damage would wipe out organics and leave infrastructure intact" is non-sense, because ALL explosives create a shockwave, if anything, the more powerful their blast, the better they are at damaging structures, it is impossible to produce a shockwave powerful enough to inflict lethal blast injuries on a whole district without leveling half of the place at the same time.
I think he simultaneously confused a Neutron Bomb with a MOAB and also incorrectly assumed they worked through shockwaves instead of radiation bursts, lol
Also, even a Neutron Bomb would damage structures in it's vicinity, it IS a nuclear bomb that is detonated in atmosphere, there IS an explosion, it's just designed to minimize structural damage while maximizing heat and radiation output.
Splatty a MOAB is a gigantic fuel air explosive. I think you mean a neutron bomb. I agree though on the tactics in this case. I think this is the only case to use a neutron bomb.
A Very ambitious project.
MOAB = Mother of all bomb.. like huge conventional big ass bomb that would level anything
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
"We're FEMA in this". Made me laugh but nah we are the CIA if anything.
Is there a pause function where we can issue commands and place buildings etc yet? I really enjoyed this game long ago but sadly I need the ability to stop and think about what and where kind of thing
You can slow down time with spacebar
@@TotallyNotAFox yeah but I found that slow time still gave me anxiety since I was still learning buildings and units
@@dragour8723 It's real time for a reason
That’s not an aircraft carrier. That’s an LHA.
Played this on and off for some time now and i feel that the balance is still pretty hard if you don't play a custom game you get juggernauths pretty fast followed by Leviathan worms pretty fast after and they will ruin you really fast. I hope that the game will get a good once over for the 1.0 release but great game.
As others have said. I would love to see more of this...
The game almost seems like its overly micro managy. It cant decide if it wants to be a small troop game or a large scale RTS. Very ineresting.
I have it. Good game. I wonder if they have a campaign now.
The MOAB does not kill biological beings only, the shockwave and heat do significant damage to infrastructure. Were you thinking of a neutron bomb or some kind of chemical weapon?
I enjoy watching this video
This is probably all my Red Alert 2 talking; but I'm surprised that nobody is finding a window with all those buildings around.
and after sometime we get Dawn of the dead or which one was it they figure out they can cross the water
for some reason my guard towers dont do anything you have an idea why?
For .2 seconds I thought this video opened with your face cam on and I was confused
I always see this on steam in early access
Are there no good mods for this?
i simply just give up all the civ and set the ROE to fire at will, you know, if there're no witness no one will sue you
Still very much a wip title, but one that shows great promise
When multiplayer comes i wonder if there going to somebody who going to play the zombie team
If only these devs didn't blow so much money on garbage fluff like actresses and editors to make their minor updates sound substantial, or justify their team vacation to San Francisco for the sake of "realistically modelling the city", or deciding later in development that a first-person mode would be fun even if less refined and detracting from the RTS gameplay... The idea is solid but the devs seem more interested in doing anything but finishing their project.
We still use these pictures to this day for texturing for world environments and helping us understand how the city is layeyed out in terms of scale. Typically, every single developer visits the city they are trying to recreate to do it justice. We do the development videos for those that don't follow along on Discord it's a nice way to keep the community informed. I edit all the videos myself, so that's free, lol.
We switched that over to the third person, and it was way better. I would encourage you to check out our latest road map lots of changes coming in 2024 for our goal up wrapping up pandemic
is this pvp? like is there a player controlling the infected?
@Splattercatgaming I found your reviews interesting but after YEARS of silence, more precisely restricting me from watching your videos, and realising that I might have missed at least a couple good titles, hmm I need to do this ->
Let's start a new fun challenge:
Everytime when Splat say word "like" count it and after whole video, write a number in the comments below. I bet you, the numbers will be in hundreds per video. You sometimes say this word 3 times per a single sentence, five sentences in a row .. Splat, even you must admit that you sound as if you were five years old.
Sorry, it is just too hilarious to not mention it.
I know making games is hard. I know software is hard. It's just some games look like games being made. It's like the button icons and the ... lack of abstraction or something? Idk. I can't think of a game that I have gotten into like this. Even KSP beta you could see the game in it, beside the jank and the kind of prototype game editor. I don't know what it is. I've just been noticing basically a Unity view or something. It's probably just me.
I mean, discount Men of War, maybe
Looks fucking amazing
no.... a MOAB is a Massive Ordinance Air blast 😂😂😂 and it absolutely does level everything its the largest none nuclear weapon in the US Arsenal , it would litterally make mountains shorter
Kenshi of zoombies?
I love these types of games. Janky and barely working. Something that if it succeeds greater things to come.
A few things to mention here. The machine gun in the towers is referred to as a 249 or pronounced two-four-nine not two-forty-nine lol. Secondly a MOAB short for Mother of a Bombs will definitely take out buildings and pretty much anything else. The military designed it mainly to destroy bunkers deep underground so I think you are talking about a different kind of bomb when it comes to just destroying people and not the surrounding infrastructure.
uh.... thats not a moab. youre thinking neutron b...b
This game needs new animations badly. Just add some weight in the shooting and the look of the animations and it would look fantastic
Like playing it, but always 20 minutes in such a lag fest and ruins it for me. Also turrets just don't work too
#1 question and mainly decides whether I try RTS games. Does it have an Active Pause?
It does
you can hit space bar for an extremely slowed down pace. i use it constantly during bigger fights. Also not covered in the vid you can go into first person and fight them firsthand.
@@Utardiaresident Good enough, that'll work. I love They Are Billions though and can't wait to get into another game like it.

@@montypython5521 Exactly. I prefer TB games. And you probably will too when you get older. I loved They Are Billions just fine.
Yeah big problem for me in this game are still bug parthfinding
Another way to play it is to make small bases around control points.
Destroying the bridges hasn't been a way to fully stop the infection in months. The enemy can now tunnel underneath and spawn pretty much anywhere.
Yeah plus crow flocks is a thing. For the tunneler for anyone who reads this it spawns a bunch of infected little drones to infect more things. You can stop it with a specific ground pounding defense item but it does add to the urgency of the evacuating of civilians
there is a build option that is an anti tunnel machine -- im pretty sure that stops the massive worms and the underground zombie push, they cover a large radius
@@potatomasherr there is, but by the time you can build enough of them, usually the zombies have gotten around quite a lot.
Sounds like a reason to do some good ol' defense in depth.
@@TheArbieo unfortunately defense in depth collapses pretty aggressively in the game at the moment. Especially with the golems they’ll rip through front lines unless you’re heavily fortified. It’s more set up a defensible position, evac where possible and rush defenses
I love the devs of this game. they are super active. They can sometime focus on things that people arent really interested in but you can always rely on them to push content pretty consistently
is patient zero still immortal until shredder rounds, cause that's redonk. i have had play throughs where she just B-line winter, chasing her across the map the whole game. redonk

@@dementednarwhals fix the drifting chargers
It bothers me that instead of using already built buildings for a base you have to build temporary structures also why not allow the soldiers to use civi vehicles to get around if need be maybe have an engineer to hotwire them
This was more of a scope limitation plus we hated the idea of them meleeing a structure would kill people inside + the needed man power to build entire interior sections. We settled on this route as a compromise and we want to test and hallow out some structures as development progresses
@HalcyonWinds makes sense i was only speaking from a logical standpoint but i understand limitations and not wanting the game to function a certain way. The games looks great btw
@@HalcyonWinds I like the idea of some buildings being repurposed. Similar to how the command points are spread out, useable buildings could be spread out. Gymnasiums, fire stations, cab company garages, etc. It could be a quicker cheaper deploy or maybe a buffed version of a building. But since they would be spread out it wouldn't be likely to take more than 1 or 2 anyway.
um a Moab will absolutely destroy buildings, you might be thinking of a neutron bomb
An aircraft carrier can consume around 100,000 gallons of fuel per day, depending on its size, speed, and operational activities. This can vary based on factors such as the carrier's propulsion system and the type of operations it is conducting. That is just about 6 inches per gallon of gas! That is A LOT of fuel! With production down due to the end of the world, that aircraft carrier will make a great anchored floating city! Safe from Zeds. But don't expect to get very far. o7
by the end of the day, everyone on the ship will have to row that carrier 😂
Atomics don't work the same way.
Yeah, modern aircraft carriers are nuclear.
Like others said I'm pretty sure they are nuclear now. Also i would assume they have renewable energy and battery packs too.
@@GameTimeWhy Renewables aren't really in the package. Renewables have always vastly underperformed other generation techniques, as they can't get more energy then what exists passively. Its years of movement, but still limited.
