My son just passes his drivers test today and got his license and his starter went out so this is what we will be doing this weekend. Rude awakening to him for what it's like to own and fix a car... not gonna be fun. Your video was very helpful and showed what we have to look forward to lol
Change that attitude...make it FUN!! Don't know why in our society, we teach that "work and learning" are to dreaded! When I interviewed for new members to my shop team, I had 3 basic requirements, 1) Have FUN! 2) Get the job done! (If you ain't havin fun, you are in the wrong place!) 3) Make me look good! =) =)
Thank you sir. Watched your video a couple times, then sat down and changed the starter on my 02 Dodge Stratus (exactly the same as in this video). Replaced the front motor mount too, as the rubber was coming apart. It took me about 7 hours, but the car is up and running again. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and explain each step. It sure makes it easier for us new guys. Cheers! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! :). AAA just left after trying to jump start did not work. He said starter was bad but had no idea where it was. I saw your video and paused it when you got to the part about the FUSE !!! I replaced it and it started😳 You Saved Me. Where do I send the check? Now I can save for a starter if it does it again.
Great Video!! had this issue with the Wife's car for a long time and shop kept saying starter was fine. We would go through 20 amp fuse's and then it would work for a while and then it happened again and would not recover. referred to your video and was able to get it swapped out and is now start strong every time!! The Positive post on the Old starter was broke not making a good connection on the Old one Than you so much!!!
Hey Jamie, overall a pret to helpful video as I hadn't done one of these b4. Cuedos for tip on removing cooling fan, that was a BIG HELP!! One FYI, starter is held in by 2 bolts and you had them both, the top motor mount bolt is also the top starter bolt. What appears to be bolt hole in middle is actually a dowel pin. My new starter had one and the one on t he starter removed was broken. Good bless you for laying on t he ground to do this!!
i have an 08 2.7 and looks like starter is the culprit. thanks for the video. it took me a while to come across yours on the 06. i will go see if it looks same as mine.
Ty for the video! I was wondering how in the world I would get to the starter. I'm going to take the safe road as I'm lacking additional jack and just take it in for replacement. I'm not real comfortable with disconnecting the motor mount. Ty again!
Thank You so much for a great video. Dead on instructions for replacing the starter on my daughter's 2004 Dodge Stratus ES 2.7L V6. Not sure I would have tackled this job without your video, don't think I would have figured out that you have to remove the front motor mount just to get to the starter. Eric Galindo yeah its a real pain in the ass lol , the 2.7 timing takes a little while but it's doable I mean just like everything with this car it's going to be a pain in the ass but you can do it yourself
Im changing a starter for my 2004 chrystler sebring, just wondering where is the starter located, is it hidden within the motor mount and the bracket. Damn Straight...PITA to work on......I just HAD to have a Convertible...If It takes a six pack to get it apart..It'l take a case to get it together...every time
I was the one that had the oil light flicker I know this is crazy but my radiator was a little bit low not a lot maybe 25-30oz it was a 64oz bottle it only took half of it when I added that water the oil light went out I don't know why maybe the oil light comes on if the car runs hot not sure but I'm definitely glad to see it go out
Simply put, Sebrings, mine is an '01, 2.4, are a-holes! Pain here and a pain there. Stupid anti-theft is over-their-heads, and engine mounts notorious tinker-toy achey-breakey. The one I've dealt with is sharp looking and gets along smartly when required, zooom. But the floorboard has been wet for years and the floor will probably fall out some day The culprit might be an a/c "overflow pan" or whatever. It's another goofy Sebring thing. I don't see many Sebrings of any year, and I guess most have been pushed over cliffs and into auto hell where they belong. Not necessarily, but keep one going at your own risk. I'm a real novice mechanic, and no expert, but I've been around for awhile and know a few things just for that. Thanks for the helpful vids. Good day! (BTW, What happened to the Great American President? Where'd Junior Mussolini come from?!)

That made me wonder if one of the mounting bolts for the motor mount serves double duty as the top starter mounting bolt, with the third hole being an indexing peg. What did you find when you added another starter mounting bolt? Did you find that your added bolt interfered with the mount installation when you went back with everything?
hey I just changed the starter on my Sebring 2.7 I hate this car...thanks so much for the video but now I'm having a problem when I turn the key I have power and i hear it prime but all I get is the click from the starter thinking that the battery might be going I tried jumping it and I'm getting grinding but I did install properly and everything seemed to be in place any ideas as to what I should try next ? thanks again
All the connections are good I'm leaning towards crank shaft sensor I'll be replacing today I'll let you know how it works out I hate this car man lol such a pain to work on...all the connections are good I tested the starter and it's working fine I don't think it needs to be shimmed because the starters old and new were identical the flywheel wasnt locked up or missing teeth ...this has been a tough one to troubleshoot if the crankshaft sensor doesn't work I'll get back to you thanks again for all the insight and the quick response your videos are very helpful and easy to follow
would this still apply to a 2012 Chrysler 200? I have power, Windows and doors work, but no ignition sounds when i turn my key. I'm led to believe it's the starter. Any input?
Did you have to disconnect the negative cable from the battery?? Or from the top where you usually jump start a a cad...im about to to stater in my sebring also this video helped alot thanks man.
I know that same motor mount is bad on my car. But when I turn on my AC, it makes a loud tapping noise. When I first bought the car, I knew it needed a mount but just kept driving it. Lately when Im stopped at a light and in drive it will start tapping loudly but if I put it in neautral, it goes away. Ther will also be less noise when I turn the AC off but it still makes it. Would that still just be the mount?
I have a 2002 2.7 seabring front moter mount changed starter and alternativer changed needs three more mounts wish me luck small oil leak over 140000 miles convertible .
Hey I am having the same problem blowing that same fuse under the hood and now won’t start is it the starter..? Has full power just no crank no start kept blowing fuse #8 and now fuse is good and won’t crank or start
@@jamiejonesthecarman I took it off and had it tested and it’s fine.. so I don’t know what else it could be.. it was fine Besides blowing the fuses every now and then I literally pulled into somewhere turn the car off came back out and wouldn’t start..
I also have the oil light flicker at a red light you know what that means I was told to run a pint of kerosene in the oil to hopefully clean the sludge out of the oil pump any other things you know to do
actually John I would you some seafoam in engine oil and see if you could get it to clean it up a little bit first but 9 times out of 10 they sump pump at the bottom where the screen is that gets clogged up or they get sludge buildup in there which is causing the oil light to flicker
I always buy junkyard starters in when you get them for 30 bucks instead of 150 200 does it make sense to me I guess we were to keep the car for the rest of your life may be but hell I never had a problem with them
@@reddogbrew6895 ..... Yea,,, what was Dodge / Chrysler thinking when they decided to put the battery in that location. I replaced my car batter 3 times already, its never fun.
Dr. Robotnlk,,,, He says he would never do this again, cause in my opinion he's working way too hard. I've seen other videos here on RUclips, replacing the starter as well. They do it way easier than this. I was hoping to find some of these videos. Sharing the videos might be helpful to some of the viewers.
Brennen Harley Yes I did!! Try putting a flat board underneath of the oil pan and jack the engine up just maybe 1/2" and see if that doesn't help you gain the clearance that you need. Let me know if that works.
The problem I'm actually having is with the starter not being even when I pulled it down. The second bolt that is the motor mount and starter bolt won't thread
So your reasoning is to use an old used junkyard starter on a real difficult ball breaking job that you really don't want to do all over again in a few weeks or a few months. Is that what I'm hearing?
Great Video! REMOVE THAT FAN TRAY FIRST! I saw that note at the end of the video. A similar video for the fan tray removal here. ruclips.net/video/hmVVp9LrzYQ/видео.html I have 2002 sebring convertible. The small black cable with connector was very annoying as it's tie wrapped to the connector. Plus the cable is plugged into the starter that is hard to see. The power cable needs to be removed first then the starter can be pulled away to remove the black connector. My tab broke and I tie wrapped it to the power cable installed.
LOL I cannot say I disagree I hope you did enjoy the video please share and if you need any help at any point on anything with guards let me know and I definitely thank you for watching our videos and supporting us
"9 xs outta 10 it's the starter" Wrong! Could be the starter relay, alternator, solenoid, Flywheel missing/worn teeth, the battery or bad/burnt wires. Always start with the cheapest and easiest. Then work your way to the starter.
You think the starter was a bitch. Wait until you replace the water pump. That was a bitch x 5. 😆 ? Can the solenoid just be replaced? Or is it better to replace the whole thing.
Thanks for this video it was very helpful wish I would have watched it before I bought a piece of shit sebring chrysler should be ashamed of this car and their junkie 2.7 engine
Well your wife sound very beautiful. But watching your video, You're working way too hard. I've seen other videos here on RUclips and they don't work anywhere as hard as you do. I myself have removed /replaced my front motor mount and did not removed the radiator as you mentioned. Again, you're working way too hard.

yeah I think it's has a tough engine
Definitely
change the starter on a 2008 dodge charger and tell me how it gose.
did you have difficulty putting the new starter in???
Brennen Harley Yes I did!! Try putting a flat board underneath of the oil pan and jack the engine up just maybe 1/2" and see if that doesn't help you gain the clearance that you need. Let me know if that works.
The problem I'm actually having is with the starter not being even when I pulled it down. The second bolt that is the motor mount and starter bolt won't thread
Brennen Harley Ok, is it just because you can't get it lined up or is it stripped?
I actually got it in about 10 minutes after I messaged you
Brennen Harley Awesome man!! Glad to hear it.
Calm down Bro (from nj) !!!
So your reasoning is to use an old used junkyard starter on a real difficult ball breaking job that you really don't want to do all over again in a few weeks or a few months. Is that what I'm hearing?
come to Houston and help me with my starter,, please?? 12 pack and some cigs.
Great Video! REMOVE THAT FAN TRAY FIRST! I saw that note at the end of the video. A similar video for the fan tray removal here. ruclips.net/video/hmVVp9LrzYQ/видео.html
I have 2002 sebring convertible. The small black cable with connector was very annoying as it's tie wrapped to the connector. Plus the cable is plugged into the starter that is hard to see. The power cable needs to be removed first then the starter can be pulled away to remove the black connector. My tab broke and I tie wrapped it to the power cable installed.
Thanks for sharing
You're not kiddin', this is worst car I have ever owned.
Fuck this car. Great vid, btw
LOL I cannot say I disagree I hope you did enjoy the video please share and if you need any help at any point on anything with guards let me know and I definitely thank you for watching our videos and supporting us
i have a pacifica im trying to flip. the problems NEVER end. chrysler sucks, it needs a starter also. worst designed vehicles EVER!
"9 xs outta 10 it's the starter" Wrong! Could be the starter relay, alternator, solenoid, Flywheel missing/worn teeth, the battery or bad/burnt wires. Always start with the cheapest and easiest. Then work your way to the starter.
let me rephrase last 50 out of 50 that was the problem
lol good one
You think the starter was a bitch. Wait until you replace the water pump. That was a bitch x 5. 😆
? Can the solenoid just be replaced? Or is it better to replace the whole thing.
Well I’m sure somebody sells the part but I would definitely replace the whole thing as you know the brushes and stuff are wore out
Thanks for this video it was very helpful wish I would have watched it before I bought a piece of shit sebring chrysler should be ashamed of this car and their junkie 2.7 engine
I didn't find this helpful. You paused on important parts. 🙄
He paused on the parts we’re all the cussing was 😆😆😆

Bro the crackheads videos were way more informative.

I don't WANT to change the starter after watching this video...lol... is there anything else i can check before i spend the time and money?
