You may not have been fast, but you've definitely proven time and time again that you put your heart in your work. I'd take a clean install over a quick one any day.
I started box-knotting my connections making it faster than solder with better conductivity without the mess if ever needing to undo a connection, but I may try this to see my time.
Mark that was so funny with the silverware in the drawer.. and of course the jab at Doug.. Love your channel no matter what Doug thinks about your very nice shop.
Doug didn't turn on his soldering iron till halfway in, thought about it for like 10 seconds then said screw it and still 💥 but God damn! GOT EM! with the kerf joke! Lol awesome job guys!
Everyone else already mentioned it, but the tableware caddy was an epic addition! You already won by accepting a challenge that had no real merit.....Great job!
Lol picking on Doug! I have to admit though. His full of S.H. bantering is what makes him so entertaining! That, and that damnd explosion! I love it! LMAO
The problem with stripping the wires that far back and twisting them is you shorten the harness. For the initial installation it's not an issue. But later if the aftermarket whatever part dies and you want to revert back you have to cut the twisted section out and depending on how much needs to be removed you might have to add length to the harness creating multiple splices. Bottom line is a properly soldered connection doesn't need to be twisted prior it's a fact. Case and point I replaced my wife's stock head unit with a sony. Had to bypass the factory amp for the high power instalation. A year later the new head unit didn't work properly so I re installed the original. Reconnecting the amp was a snap list heated the conceptions and tinned the ones in and out of the amp then soldered them back up. Minimal loss of harness length was a necessity any loss would make it difficult without extending the harness creating multiple slices. I can bypass and reconnect the amp or any component hundreds of times and have one splice per wire with no extentions.
I pissed my pants when mark threw shade at Doug for not being able to kerff birch wood on his last attempt and just went to mdf and the rest of the shade he was throwing
using sissors for heat shrink AND a wire stripper and a preheated soldering iron i was almost positive you would do better. never the less great video! great challenge! great sense of humor! great sports spirit! way to go Mark!
You should definitely check out a Metcal or OKI soldering station. Their curie point tech lets them put a lot of heat into something quickly, which might help speed up your soldering. Plus they heat up in seconds, which might be useful in a shop. They're build like a friggin tank, so you can pick up used units from Ebay for cheap. I've seen probably at least a dozen still in active use at labs that I've worked in that are easily 15-20 years old and work just fine. The temp regulation is actually in the replaceable cartridge tips, so swapping in a new tip essentially gets you a new soldering iron (and the tips have insane lifetimes, I think I've seen numbers around a thousand hours or so).
Do you have a video on how to add new wires to a harness? 2 of mine were cut out and I damaged the pins when I pushed them out. I've looked everywhere on the internet and I ended up here. Great job btw and I like your kitchen
This challenge looks so fun. I will do it and post, I'm not a huge tuber but I will shout you, DB and of course carfonics (hope I spelled it correct) Keep up the great work.
Clean looking harness. Rat tails vs. Western Union splice makes the difference in speed. Even though your not likely to have a load on those wires while in use, the western union / lineman's splice is strongest and maybe most durable way to join those harnesses.
Mark, good job, I'm with you, I take my time 2, great craftsmanship takes time and thought. I co-own a small shop, low volume high quality builds. only been in biz a little over 6 months, I'm a master electrician and I quit my job and started this. I built a 40' x 80' metal building behind my house a couple of years ago and the rest is history. keep up the steller work! by the way, my name is Marc
If somebody just wants fast, that’s fine. I know I am no speedster. Coming from an avionics background and having people depending on you to yield the high quality and high reliability that is needed because their lives depend on your work, being fast does not impress me. When somebody’s ass is on the line, being sure and careful is the order of the day. I am a DOD STD 2000-1 solder technician. Quality over quantity is key because human life of your coworkers is precious and that Class A asset that your responsible for. So I can take the ribbing for bring slow and keep em flying and get em home too!🗽💖👏
Do you sell Enclosures? I have full plans but lack the correct tools and space. If you could flat pack the finished wood that would be awesome. They aren't car audio related (though I am heavily into that too), but custom towers and center channel. I have all the drivers and crossovers, etc, just need to get the maple enclosures done.
Your fab wall looks like a professional laboratory in a modern factory to me but I don't see how kitchen is an insult as it's likely the most expensive room in a house. The speed tests are fun but as a customer I'd rather have my gear built by the best and not fastest. I started out in electronics by building PCBs and harnesses for industrial uses by a very fussy German company, great experience that influences me to this day. We'd have pulled the pins on one of the connectors and used new pins to create this adaptor, if the pins or the crimper was not available we'd have staggered the wire lengths so there would be no bulge. I realise a professional installer is trying to make money from making one off designs so I allow a lot of leeway but seeing those rat tail connections would have made my blood boil.
It does look like a kitchen but u r the superior builder n my personal opinion he is talented but u r setup better and I think more naturally talented, embrace the kitchen
i can do it in 1-2 minutes.. granted, i use a highs amp so i have a lot less wires.. and i'd use crimp caps cause the flow on those wires aren't all that important... but we aren't gunna mention all that!
Hello! Is it possible to splice into the remote turn on wire on my head unit wiring harness if it is already being used for something else? I had previously soldered the remote turn on wire on my after market wiring harness to the antenna wire that came with my factory wiring harness, but I would like to additionally solder the remote turn on wire that came with my amp wiring kit to the remote turn on wire on my after market wiring harness (even though it is already soldered to my antenna wire). I was unsure if splicing into a wire that is already in use for something else in order to add an additional wire (which would be the remote turn on wire from my amp kit) would put me at a risk for a short, or if the wire would not supply a strong enough signal to turn my amp on & off since it would have to be spliced into my remote turn on wire that is already soldered to the antenna wire. Thanks in advance!
woohunter1 Sweet! So I could safely spice into the remote turn on wire on my head unit (even though it is already soldered to my antenna wire) & not cause any overloading or shorts?
YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!! 😂😂😂😂
*BIRCH .... :P :P :P
SoundmanCA
Loving the comradery!!
Oh yeah...RIP IT!!
It doesn't matter what you did Doug
The silverware drawer was a nice touch! LMAO

hifivega that's what happens to me most of the time
You are always a good sport Mark! Thanks, and that was the cleanest harness so far.
When I saw the utensils in the draw I pissed my pants.
it doesn't matter what you did Doug 😂
Lol those utensils gottem!!!
Had me rollin
You may not have been fast, but you've definitely proven time and time again that you put your heart in your work. I'd take a clean install over a quick one any day.
yours looked the best Mark. as do your boxes. keep up the good work
Thanks! Appreciate that. :)
great job. i watch both you & Doug. both channels ROCK!!
I started box-knotting my connections making it faster than solder with better conductivity without the mess if ever needing to undo a connection, but I may try this to see my time.
Nice job still pretty quick though. Nice burn 🔥🔥🔥can't even kerf birch 😂
Oh Shots fired . ...good one Mark even though I've got much love and respect for both you & Doug 😂
Mark that was so funny with the silverware in the drawer.. and of course the jab at Doug.. Love your channel no matter what Doug thinks about your very nice shop.

Forks and such in the drawer made me hurt myself laughing.
a lot of people said it would take mark way longer but the quality would top notch
GOTTEEEEMM!!!!! Lol! The "birch kirf" shot was priceless! Loved it and can't wait to see Doug's reply.
Just stumbled on your RUclips channel some how and now I'm spending money on car audio for the first time in 12 years.
hahahaha lost it at 1:20 and 2:00
keep up the good work
This is definitely a challenge I can try to get behind. I'll try to post my results.
thanks for noticing the WU part of the challenge. good job
Lol picking on Doug! I have to admit though. His full of S.H. bantering is what makes him so entertaining! That, and that damnd explosion! I love it! LMAO
love the kitchen utensils gag. way to put it up even though you didnt win. respect

And of course it's Beautiful in every regard eh Doug? lol good work mark!
This is a great challenge, sure does show who listens to the rules and catches the details
Mark should be saying 'got dem' to Doug lol
He jus dissed Doug lol 😂
David Armstrong Doug disses himself
I love the smack talking between you and dough. Always funny
I pissed my pants when mark threw shade at Doug for not being able to kerff birch wood on his last attempt and just went to mdf and the rest of the shade he was throwing
LMAO The Forks and shit in the Drawer! HAHA
Gotta try this one, the guys at work give me crap for soldering everything but I think I could do quite well in this one.
using sissors for heat shrink AND a wire stripper and a preheated soldering iron i was almost positive you would do better. never the less great video! great challenge! great sense of humor! great sports spirit! way to go Mark!

@3:56 my thoughts exactly! I like to sleep well at night, knowing I did my best and didn't cut any corners....😉lol
dude, u are still awsome. its not speed that counts, its quality. and u are 100% quality. in my book, u win overall. keep it up bro.
very interesting competition. but your harness looks clean and neat👌 both you and doug are my youtube car audio channel's favourite!
Fantastic! :D The silverware made me drop of my chair and roll on the floor laughing! :D
deck, 4 speakers, subs, 5 channel amp in a new car. 1 1/2 hrs by myself. clean n tucked away. That's my record
Doug's next video is going to be a beauty....
Do you have a video on how to add new wires to a harness? 2 of mine were cut out and I damaged the pins when I pushed them out. I've looked everywhere on the internet and I ended up here. Great job btw and I like your kitchen
🤣😂😂😂mark got jokes!!! but definitely two thumbs up!!!
The soundman has to be the best comment....nice
it would be cool if the biggest car audio guys on youtube get together for a badaass never before seen project
Quality over quantity.
I still like your work. good job.
Great video. Challenge was funny as hell with the silverware!
love it! Good shit Mark.
This challenge looks so fun. I will do it and post, I'm not a huge tuber but I will shout you, DB and of course carfonics (hope I spelled it correct) Keep up the great work.
great job! you work very clean

I'm kinda like the big bull to the little bull story. Speed is for crack headz. LOL
I love the spoons and shit in the wire stripper drawer!
Nice work man and doug even waited for the solder iron to get warm. xD
good challenge guys love all your channels.
All hail Doug
ooh men i almost cry when you open that gabinet😂😂😂😂
I died twice when you pulled the drawer out and it had silverware in it.

Great vid. You had a great setup and plan for speed.
Lmao i was dying at the first shot he threw at Doug 😂😂💀
Good job mark. Doug is the man though.
oh snap, "cant kerf birch".... BURN... LoL
Can u post the original non sped up video so we can see what u did?
Also was that a blow torch u used to shrink the wrap?

Awesome. Lol...silverware. 😀
That silverware though!!!😂😂😂
I lost it when I saw the silverware in the drawer. 😂😂
Holy shit it really is a kitchen!!
I use the same soldering iron
you are damn sure you take your time like that 8 inch subwoofer box
why nobody its challenging SMD ! ! ! ! probably he could cnc the fuking harness LOL
Yeah, but do we start the timer when he starts planning it in the software, or a few hours later when the CNC fires up?
LOOOOL
the forks!!! lmao
The silverware tho..... Perfect!
Reminds me of the 3-minute dovetail challenge
real lineman splice!!
lol at the silverware cameo
Got em!
I have been trying to find that narrow Tesa tape forever! Would you share what it's specifically called or a link to it? Keep up the good work!
Hahaha, made my night, Mark! :D
neat work space clean
absolutely the best video I've seen in awhile LoL hilarious
Someone's been practicing.... 😂😝
I like to stagger the joins to make a flatter harness.
Been waiting 2 weeks for this video. How many harnesses did you practice on before you did this one?
Your harness looks tight though.
I forgot you got challenged..lol
Took longer, but I'd buy your harness over Doug's! Quality vs. Quantity
ccmaster86 but they made one harness lol so it's the same quantity
Andrew Berndt ok and which one has better quality... quality over quantity
I really like your videos dude, i just think you talk a bit too much sometimes when the title explains itself. However the content never dissapoints

lul.... u took this entire thing wayyyy too serious
It does look like a kitchen but u r the superior builder n my personal opinion he is talented but u r setup better and I think more naturally talented, embrace the kitchen
Yours looked really nice. Quality is your forté not speed
Hahahahahahahahaha great vid sir
i can do it in 1-2 minutes.. granted, i use a highs amp so i have a lot less wires.. and i'd use crimp caps cause the flow on those wires aren't all that important... but we aren't gunna mention all that!
good job
Yep, take your time, do it right - and maybe enjoy what you're doing.
So important... Thanks for watching
About died when you opened the drawer for your strippers! Lol
Where is the link for the silver ware!??!
Hello! Is it possible to splice into the remote turn on wire on my head unit wiring harness if it is already being used for something else? Hypercity you can run multiple things off the remote wire, amp(s) antennae.
woohunter1 Sweet! So I could safely spice into the remote turn on wire on my head unit (even though it is already soldered to my antenna wire) & not cause any overloading or shorts?
