And don't forget that when Fender began its reorganization and revitalization in the early 80's, it's because they hired the top brass from Yamaha USA stringed instruments to take over operations for them. True.

The thing I really like about Yamaha Pacifica's is they are not a copy of other brand. Surely they do look similar to strats but they really have their own thing. That always bothers many people, when you start on a squier you feel like you need to upgrade to get a real strat that says Fender on it, but when you take Yamaha, surely there are entry level and top of the line Pacifica, but I feel that even their cheapest one can at least compete with Fender mexi strat in terms of playability and sounds. They are also an excellent mod platform, you can customize them to your needs. Well I guess I am a hardcore Pacifica fan.

You're far from alone. I have four different model Pacificas among my other instruments.

I have one of these Pacificas in Root Beer. Value for money it's hard to bead and I love it.

If you can find a Yamaha SE200, 300, etc series buy it! Basically I bought a SE 200 and threw in some SD hot rails. The body and neck on that guitar is Mahogany. It throws out some serious tone with those hot rails!

Coil split using both pickups in the middle position is a super cool sound.

I've owned more Yamahas than any other brand. More than I've owned Fenders, Gibsons, PRS, etc. I've owned probably a hundred guitars. Yamaha always delivers the goods, and often at a better price than other brands. They do their own thing and ignore trends. I've owned many SBGs, Pacificas, Revstars, and others. I think the Revstar line is top line. I think the higher end Pacificas like the hardtail in this video are wonderful. One of my best Pacificas is a double bucker tele I wish I still owned that I got around '94 for $200 with a case. It was great. The stock pickups were phenomenal. I couldn't recommend Yamaha anymore highly.

Great idea! It would also be cool to do a shootout between similar style guitars by two manufacturers. EX. Fender Standard Strat VS G&L Legacy tribute ($499 each). The Yamaha sounds really nice. Would never have thought about trying one before. Peace out.

I'm about to pick up a PAC112J and throw a SSS Strat pup config on it, along with probably an upgraded bridge/trem system, graphite nut, and maybe locking tuners. Haven't picked out all of the parts yet, but I am stoke.

Hate to bump a super old video, but this video piqued my curiosity, in regards to the AxeFX. Obviously, this being a 7 year old video, modeling has come a long way. In your opinion, do you believe that, today (1/23), the modeling software(?) is starting to catch up with tube amplifiers? As far as the tones you're able to get, anyways. Again, sorry to bump an old video, but I was here and I would've forgotten to ask otherwise 😅.
    Thanks, Robert!

They will never “model” the smell and heat off a tube amp at full tilt…

Oh yeah! It's perfect for me.The finish is immaculate in every way.
I'm still new to the guitar and hooked up to my Yamaha THR10 makes learning a joy! Just got some new Elixir 'Optiweb' strings today, not that the fitted D'darrios's are worn, but every little thing can help to make learning that bit easier - even pick selection!

Would this p90 need an upgrade to like a boutique p90 idk like a lolar or something like that? I have played a few Yamaha guitars in shops that were used and they always felt very comfortable

Is it possible to replace the P90 with a traditional single coil ? Is there some way to fill in the extra space since the P-90 is wider ??

  • @tigerbalm666
    @tigerbalm666 8 лет назад

Gud review. I has a Fender Mex Powerhouse and it gets noisy even on clean pickup, would this 611 sound much cleaner and still get heavy VH and and smooth Santana sounds? I thought a Fender was versatile, but it just doesn't sound that gud unless you get an American strat?

I am not sure if you ended up getting a pacifica or something else. But in case someone else ask the same question, the difference between the two are as follows:
      Pac 611
      - Seymour Duncan Pickups
      - Tinted neck so it might be sticky for some people
      - Comes in two models, one with a trem system by wilkinson and one that is a hardtail with graptech string saver saddles
      - Flamed Maple Top
      Pac 311
      - Yamaha pickups "I'm not too sure since the spec page on their own website doesn't list them"
      - Satin neck
      - Only comes as a hardtail
      - Regular finishes
