I worked mall security, generally that guy can't ask you to leave the property unless he personally witnessed you committing a crime or causing a disturbance(he has no more law enforcement rights than a normal citizen, even with a state security license). I'm sure this is probably a super safe mall, so he literally does nothing all day so you gave him something to do lmao. At the mall I worked at, I wouldn't have even approached you unless guns, drugs or assault were involved. Then we'd issue a ban or call whatever law enforcement we had on property that day. A lot of stores in bigger malls have their own private security on top of mall security, Nordstrom 100% has their own contracted 3rd party security. All luxury department stores in malls hire a security service. It's not even that guys job to enforce their rules.

@@itsyourenotyour9101 He'd need to witness it or it be on CCTV. He specifically cited something happened with a customer in Nordstrom. Mall security doesn't have access to individual cctv in the stores, just common areas. The company I worked for took over the contract for the company this guy works for (Allied Universal), it's all set up the same. It's largely regional at that point, but most malls operate near identically in regards to security now. If anything, Nordstroms security would call mall security as back up. It's really weird for him to have tracked him down and confront him about something he himself didn't witness. Yes, everything he's doing is definitely a disturbance, and if witnessed would definitely get him thrown out. I'm just saying in this specific situation, the security officer doesn't really hold any legal authority.
There's been times where a purse was stolen out of a JC Penny or Dillards and I was instructed to let them leave property because neither of those stores ever really pressed charges. We've also had times where a rolex was stolen and we've had a dozen cops chasing them through the mall. We ourselves, don't have any legal authority unless we witness a crime. If someone were to steal something, but I didn't witness the crime or the store didn't tell me they intended to press charges, I'm expected to just watch them leave.
Mall security is a legal deterrent, not so much legal enforcement.
