A really small one but it will help you - those Japanese saws are made to cut on the pull rather than the push. They are awesome and you will love yours. They are really nice for cutting things precisely. Love the project!
Wildling, the Samurai Saw is a pull saw, that means it cuts when you pull the blade twards your body rather than pushin away or fiddeling around. Try it you will see!!! Greetings, Michel
Rub a dub, dub. Three men in a Wharram! Looking good Mark! We get by with a little help from our friends! You'll need a decent sized "dog house" on the temporary deck. Might even give you some ideas for a permanent structure with broad cockpit down the road. Such a cool adventure!
Wow! From the drone images, I managed to deduce where "The Boat" is. 😁 And yes, you need to get that thing somewhere with a workshop-y space nearby! That place may not cost you anything - but there are several reasons why ... I'll definitely check out Thomas' channel! That flu-y thing seems to go around quite a bit at the moment. Not only in the netherlands ... hope you are in full strength again soon! And that snow is covering all of Northern Europe, it seems! i understand that mark and nadiana divorced still i think minky was a better boat even though he wants to erase the past by not living on minky, but the past will remain in his mind but things turned quite nasty between them so mark needs to be careful if he as another relations ,to live on small boat with some one is not easy and can be dangerous ,unless they really love each other,as many fight and argue living in a house.
The way some people have wrote on line that you dont need money to buy a boat and go sailing ha ha ha ha well they dont know what there saying repairs etc etc etc its not a poor mans hobby.
For all the neglect that the boat has gone through for a long time, it appears to be fairly solid under all the layers of dirt and mold. I am very interested in seeing what this boat will look like by the end of the year. Great work guys.
Your trips to Gamma, the views from the anchorage are all so familiar to me......I bought a yacht in Monnickendam a few years ago and ended up staying for a couple of years. The Dutch people treated me so very kindly.....which was why I stayed so long. In fact, I had a good look at your Wharram......I rowed over in my dinghy out of curiosity. So glad to see that you are making progress.
Old Yellow is looking really good after her power washing by Old Yellow (as we now see) is looking fine after her power washing by Thomas and you, plus all of the elbow grease applied inside by a chilled to the bone Max. I have one of those Japanese pull saws and love it - living in a very warm and humid area I protect my tools with WD-40 - a lite coating after each use will keep the rust at bay.
Reminds me of when I first brought my project boat 2 years ago. First thing is to give the thing a dam good clean, even though your probs gonna make it dusty n dirty again it gives you a great chance to check all the nooks and crannies and find those areas that need attention and start to put a list of jobs together.
It's truly amazing to see how WE ALL can now see your vision for your boat. A little power washing clears the away the dirt and grime !! All the. best Richard
Sometimes we have to “do the job right now, not do the job right”. Lol. When I watched the first video of you looking at this boat, I thought you you were mad, but I think having passion for the project is vital to success and this makes you passionate, so I wish you success. Either way I will enjoy watching your struggles as I struggle with my own sailboat projects.
The washing of your boat takes me back to washing the steel flat-bottom sailboat I got donated by someone. It had been sitting on the hard in a yard for a couple of years and they wanted to get rid of it and so I accepted the gift. It was in a reasonable shape, but the tarp covering the seating area had torn and there was a massive surprise when I opened it. There was about 4 feet of water in the boat. It did prove to be very water tight though. I was lucky that it was sitting in a yard, so I did have electricity and water right next to the boat. The harbormaster did have a pump, but that had broken. So I fixed the pump first, then emptied the boat and spent all day hosing everything down and washing it with soap. The good thing about the fact that there had been 4 feet of water in the boat, is that I had no trouble hosing the inside out as well, then pumping out the water again. 😉 As a Dutchie, I am always happy help or to make connections for you if you need them. 👍
Genuinely the best RUclips series at the moment. I wish I had the money to help you. Your enthusiasm for this build is contagious as fu@!. Great video fantastic music.
What a difference a power wash makes! It puts a totally different positive aspect to repairing her! Wonderful guys who are helping you, Mark! Hats off to all 3 of you!😇🥰
Mark. When you get it in a yard youll have to take the beams off individually from the hulls to inspect, clean, paint before installing a permanent deck. There will probably be some rot at the attaching points? Also, I think those 2 stroke engines have been outlawed in Holland so its pointless to recondition them unless youre going to sell them? Try to find a pair of good running used 4 strokes when youre back in the UK.
Sooooo satisfying seeing that power washer clean up so well. There must be some way to use it inside. And none of this would have happened without the reach of RUclips and the appeal of Mark and this channel. Just amazing.
A good (or at least the best you can) clean is a good start. As you say, there's a limit to what you can do at the moment with the boat where it is and all that dirt would need to be dealt with sometime. The pressure washer was great and I'll be checking out Thomas' channel right after this. Your mission is clear: Clean Fix Rig Sail Happy days.
Mark i think building a big doghouse between the two hulls would totally transform life on board. Something you could cook in sleep in when on passage ,and to keep you dry when the waves are crashing over the deck. And a great place to just lounge on those lazy days. Two doors forward and aft, and a nice curved roof. Time to get designing, great channel all the best…
Marine ply is very expensive. WBP is often just as good, especially if you're going to glass it. Amazing how much better the boat looks with a clean. Best wishes.
@Sailing Albin Ballad Try to find sheets of ply with the minimum voids; obviously you might spend a lot of time trying to do this. Some batches of ply, or some manufacturers, will be better than others. You can try to inject epoxy into voids in the core layers. You can inject wood preservative into voids in the cores. I am in awe of the transformation of the interior of the hulls! You’ve put in an admirable effort into what looks to be a thoroughly unpleasant chore. Keep up the good work. I will keep watching.
Nothing better than cleaning up your baby and seein exactly what she’s got to offer. Beautiful boat man, I know your super stoked on her. Congrats man, can’t wait to see the build.

Hi Mark. Amazing what a difference a good clean does to make her look so much less of a major project. Great that there seems to be so little rot. Keep going young man. Keep well.

Good progress Mark !! The cleaning helps to see exactly what you have and what you need to do, plus it raises the spirits having most of the dirt out. I like your plan of attack. Keep up the positive attitude and just take one step at a time.
Insane. So satisfying to see the pressure wash before and after on each square inch of the boat :) Great weather for pressure washing and spraying around with water all over : )
You should add 1/4 cup Chlorine bleach to a 1/4 cup dish wash liquid in a large container and fill with water . Soap does not kill mold and mildew , chlorinr bleach does . Rinse well . This will also fade colors in clothing :-)
Great to see you got some help. So good you got that bro. Really good to see you guys working together. And such a big cleanup necessary before you get started. Great to see that, I been looking forward to you next post all week. It's cleaning again but good to see what is appearing from under all that muck.
That was satisfying to watch. Mark, RE the 2 stroke engines.. I would be tempted to swap them for 4 stroke engines if you can. Maintenance is a real PITA. Besides, It's a heavy lump for the 2 strokes to be pushing around IMHO. And if you have to resort to pre-mixing your fuel and 2 stroke oil, you're asking for trouble. You could end up seizing the engines very easily. I imagine it will be an unpleasant experience motoring with two 2 strokes screaming and smoking away at you.
Awesome boat man. Got a LOT of work ahead of you. I wouldn’t put a hard deadline on it such that you skimp on the details. You’ll appreciate having done it right in the long run over having just got it done as fast as you can.
Nice. As has been said- 90% of life is showing up. Can overcome the most daunting obstacles doing that. Can see order slowly emerging from chaos. Watching the dirt, grime and neglect rinsed from her is deeply satisfying... scratches ones OCD itch.
Hi Mark I'm really enjoying the Friday fix. Big respect to this week with 2 helpers. Boats looking better by the day but please no Minke shortcuts to get a sail do it properly and set sail then. You look frozen so look after yourself.
Hello Mark, the boat is a wonderfully built Wharram catamaran she is in need of some work and attention, but what a great boat to start off with. I'm looking forward to the engine work episodes with your father. I can imagine a great deck deck space with a bit of shelter for the ocean crossings. Take your time on the permanent repairs she deserves an owner who appreciates the design, and she found a great one. Stay safe. Thanks for the update.
Found this channel a couple vids ago when you procured the Wharram. The cleaning made a huge difference. I find that if you take a big job and break it down into smaller, more easily done, jobs that it really helps from being overwhelmed. Can’t wait to see it get completed
