Just purchased one of these gems And ended up with a cartridge I could not chamber because the extractor would engage and not allow the cartridge to go completely into the chamber Thank goodness I ran across your video thank you so much for posting it
Good advice is timeless, and although 10 years old, this video helped me get my new Martini Henry MkII in to full working order. From difficult load, and no extract at all, it all now works perfectly. Your tip on the bolt protruding too far into the mechanism was spot on. £4.40 for a long screwdriver and all was well. It also gave me perfect excuse to spend a day cleaning it. Thank you.
Great video! Love the cut out receiver. It's obvious now what the stock screw length could cause. The workmanship and fit when comparing the Gahendra and the British manufactured MK II is quite remarkable. My thanks to the British people of old for all they created!
GREAT VIDEO. THANKS FOR POSTING. I am also very envious of your clarity of speech an the ability to stay on the subject without hesitation. That is talent you either have or you don/t. Inspiring me to get my Martini Francotte action open (frozen screw).
Nice instructional video..thankyou! I have recently bought a Westley Richards 310 cadet, with a mismatched breech block. The block is a sloppy fit in the action. It shoots, but I'm not happy shooting it like that. The breech block should fit neat, not happy!
I have a question. I have a mark 4 MH, the breech will close on a snap cap, but I have some old kynoch ammo and it will not close on a live round. It appears to foul right in the primer area, so I am very careful not to use much force. I want to ID the extractor and the breech block to make sure I have mark 4 parts in a mark 4 gun, but beyond that, any assistance would be great. great vids and good job here.
Hmm, that extraction doesn't look all that powerful, there seems to be no leverage advantage and it's the third in a chain of links. It looks like the old Snider would be less prone to extraction problems.
I have the situation where when the breechblock falls, it is not far enough down to load a cartridge, on pushing the lever down further, against obvious spring tension, the block travels far enough down to load a cartridge, what can cause that to happen ?
I know you posted this 2 years ago, but I have the exact same issue with my MK IV. I sadly still haven't figured out a solution. Could be something with the striker but I thought it was compatible with all models
I do as well with my Mk IV as well. It seems the bottom 1/8" of breech block travel is spring loaded, and bounces back up to partially obscure the chamber. It feels like something is putting the slightest amount of upward force on the block....
I think the martini henry rifle is fascinating and cool. I would certainly love to buy a modern clone reproduction, that’s just as much the same as the originals.

I want to make an imitation of the rifle .. but I did not know what the internal mechanism was like, this video helped me a lot, thank you very much
huh so that's how the action works that's actually pretty cool
Very good and beautifully explained and demonstrated... a complete demonstration in it's simplest form. Thank you!
