@@fekdaleo Cupertino High School in California. I remember one time in Algebra class, Al didn't care for what the teacher was writing on the chalkboard. He stood up and walked to the front of the class and erased the entire board and went and sat back down. Good shit! haha

Al has one of the most intriguing right hand techniques I've ever seen on bass. It hypnotic to watch his hand bounce up and down of the the bass and somehow is fingers still manage to hit the strings right. If I tried that I'd break my wrist!
Being someone who has spent the time figuring out how to play like al does, it’s really not as hard as it looks, he’s not hitting the strings any harder than geezer would, the shape of the 4003 helps a lot to get this fluid motion going
Its all about the position of the bass and the arm really, if you have them set so its actually relaxing to rest your hand on top of the bass you can do a version of it that you see on a flight if the eagle performance, from there you can raise your arms with more and more muscle memory. I find smacking a string as hard as you possibly can creates the same effect as plucking in slap bass. Particularly with a fuzz as huge as his its an ethereal effect in person. You dont have to bash the bass, but its so much more fun when you do
it's steve albini neglecting multiple tracks I reckon, I noticed all albinis stuff with OM bass only has one track, everything before that has a bass track left right and centre
Society is sick as fuck. Why are these guys not selling over a million records in the world? As much as I love them I hate society.....sad.....but that is how it is.
This is really great. I have been looking to hear some stuff from Om for a while. Kim Thayil was mentioning them in a few interviews over the last year. Really like it. Never realised that it was the same guy from Sleep/Shrinebuilder. Gonna have to get my hands on a physical release.
Sleep is having a reunion in May, in Britain. Apparently they'll be playing Holy Mountain and parts of Dopesmoker. I think it's only for one or two shows though.
Been discovering these guys over the last year or so. I'm 22. Al Matt and Chris have quickly become some of my favorites, I'm jealous I wasn't around to witness their prime
the only bad thing that I dislike about Om live: their slow recordings are always played faster live, and their faster songs, such as rays of the sun/tts, are played slower live.
sleep reunion....sleep reunion....sleep reunion....who's with me? Could you imagine hearing even the opening to Dopesmoker live in concert by these guys reunited now? Not to mention Holy Mountain.
Really wish someone could tell me how he set his amps up back when he used the green amps and which pedals, Ik it’s the dod and the ds1 but like with electric amps? I doubt it
i think the dod and ds1 went into the electric amp, cuz in the live at amoeba video you can see Al messing with the knobs of the electric amp during the heavy section of At Giza
So friends don't ever tell eachother to shut the fuck up. Al was pissed off because that was the night Chris told him he was quiting. I am Al friend. I've known him since 7th grade. He's stayed at my house. We used to hang out all the time. Actually was I said was, " Al... Al Get to Class!!" This is what our highschool security guard used to always yell at us when we were fucking off instead of going to class. So there you have it. Yes I was drunk and yes Al was in a pissed mood.
mmm I like these guys but it's not that surprising that they're not on MTV or whatever. I guess Sabbath is (or was at one point. Ozzy is, anyway) so maybe you do have a point
@fafafooey187 lol nooo the fact is that your wrong. Al and Chris put their entire lives into their music to make it sound beautiful for themeselves. if you ever watch a interview where they talk about how they got into music they will both reply since 4th grade all i did was say fuck you let me listen to and play music. and when you do that you get the beautiful sound of this shit
Good to see Al and Hakius again. Went to high school with these two dudes. They always had us laughing our butt's off in class!!
Wow! Thats amazing! Their music means a lot to me. Do you have any stories of them from back then you remember?
which high school was it? oh man and please tell us some more stories

@@evans5150 LOL! Yeah I can imagine that. I see you have some videos from the highschool on your channel. Do Al, Chris or Matt Pike appear in them?
And the beginnings of the beard. Glorious

Absolutely sick footage
Who said you need a guitar to rock out, these two leave most "rock" bands in the dust.
GREATNESS! MADE MY NIGHT!!!
YES!!!This is my fav Om song.....as heavy as it can be and still amazing to hear!!
I found their new album too soft.....something is missing!
it's steve albini neglecting multiple tracks I reckon, I noticed all albinis stuff with OM bass only has one track, everything before that has a bass track left right and centre

Hehehehehehehehehehehe
buy them all! its great!
You said it man. None of that guitar nonsense covering up that sweet sweet bass.
Still though I miss Sleep. Someone tell me I'm not the only one.
Been discovering these guys over the last year or so. I'm 22. Al Matt and Chris have quickly become some of my favorites, I'm jealous I wasn't around to witness their prime
it makes perfect sense, you know the om guys were munching out after the show!
the only bad thing that I dislike about Om live: their slow recordings are always played faster live, and their faster songs, such as rays of the sun/tts, are played slower live.
thats exactly what I love about them

This aged well
@@jakeg8859damn lmfao
im a guitar player but these guys will make me buy a bass and groove the hell out of it :P omg jaw opening performance
He has inspired me to do the same!
Your not the only one, i wish they were still around, next best thing to Sabbath on my opinion
Please...a DVD...can the gods at least grant that much!
its off of the om and current 93 split: inerrent rays of infallable sun yesssssss
I love how both highest rated comments have a stoned mistake in the sentence, haha. Love you brothers!
Go I wish Chris was still in the band. This is OM at their peak. Lousy video and all this is fucking incredible.
Talk of Fritos and Doritos on an OM video? Only youtube I tells ya.
see, self, deploy, enhance, bend the representation.
yep you're right.
sometimes (especially in the dragonaut video) I wonder, if he's playing with three fingers.
haha i love how when Al isn't playing a note he keeps time by headbanging
It’s a stoner metal thing, he’s prob high and needs to
I'd bet my life savings that he's high 😂
Really wish someone could tell me how he set his amps up back when he used the green amps and which pedals, Ik it’s the dod and the ds1 but like with electric amps? I doubt it

Ah, my favorite Om song. Anyone know where I can get the lyrics?
Really? I need take that DVD =")
I wish I could do that with a bass.
try the metal archives
fucking bow, son!
@battleroyale84 amen bro!!!
Does he use the old Acoustic 4x15 cabs? Those things are fucking monsters, the least fun I've ever had moving a bass cab.

Was it just me or did Al seem to be in a foul mood that night?
I like this much better than Pink Floyd.
Of course, I don't like Pink Floyd very much due to the radio's extreme overplaying of their stuff.
@fafafooey187 lol nooo the fact is that your wrong. well sorry to let you know, but the fact is that youre wrong
Stoner caravan
the fact is that it doesnt and pink floyd is better in every way
pink floyd is one of the most overrated bands of all time.
Tim Kennedy how so
