Share

  • Published on Apr 18, 2026
  • Jimmy Carr sits down with Tom Swarbrick to talk culture, comedy and the state of modern Britain.
Carr gives his view on Labour, calling Keir Starmer a “midwit” and questions Rachel Reeves’ tax approach.
He also talks to Tom about the struggles facing young men, the rising appeal of figures like Andrew Tate.
Carr also reflects on his own experiences with cancel culture, the business of telling jokes and the decline of traditional media.

honesty... the problem in the generation that exited education in 2005-2010 is that better job = higher rent (at least here in Norway).
As our wages grew rent grew just as fast if not faster as the housing market ballooned, 2020-2025 alone had a 40% increase in average house price.
200k was enough to look at the housing market in 2005, 2008 happens and by 2020 600k+ and finally in 2025 the entry capital fell down to 10% (2005) so about 450k.
Every country is different, so idk if this makes sense. But in practical terms, if you did not have your foot in the door by dec 31st 2008, capital demand (%) + average house price ballooning forced almost everyone over the past 15+ years to rent...

The issue in the UK is that Blair devalued the degree by pushing for school leavers to go to university. The trade off was a huge wave of mickey mouse degrees and a complete loss of trades and workers.
I hold no grudge against someone who went to do a batchelors in media studies, but a lot of students came out of university with a degree that was of no real value but at the same time it didn't qualify them for any of the jobsl vacancies the country had - namely plumbers, electricians, engineers, bricklayers, telecomms.
What it did do was create a lot of under employed youth, stagnated the economy, and made a lot of people feel worthless as they then had to go back into education to get qualifications they could make use of.

I really like this version of Jimmy Carr... and he is living proof that growth and development IS possible. I don't think his views have miraculously appeared, but I think that as he has become older, he has started to piece these opinions together into a message he can deliver with confidence. And it makes sense. He can call Starmer a midwit and I know that he is equally repulsed by the Conservatives or Reform. He says it is not a zero sum game when talking about masculinity but I think it also applies to his political views!! We can learn alot from him.

I always find Carr's ideas to be intriguing, and, generally, insightful; even when I may not agree.
I did find it interesting that Carr says that he doesn't believe there is such a thing as "Cancel Culture," and then goes on to opine that," the 'joke that will end my career' is already out there."

He also said 1984 won’t happen but Brave New World is/will. He’s right on BNW but clearly 1984 is also happening under the globalist communists-planned digital ID, CBDCS, face recognition cameras, end of jury trails, arresting of tens of thousands for written words and speech, banning of content online, people being arrested for nothing under terrorist legislation, jailing of people like Tommy Robinson.

    Paragraph person here 🙌
In this interview, comedian Jimmy Carr argues that the UK and wider Western world are entering a peaceful but profound societal “revolution.” He suggests traditional elites and institutions-politics, media, academia, and legacy organisations-are losing public trust and being replaced by decentralised voices such as independent media and online platforms.
Carr says mainstream politics offers little real choice, with major parties converging ideologically, leaving space for disruption and new political movements. He links growing dissatisfaction to economic pressures, housing barriers, and limited prospects for younger generations, proposing bold ideas such as removing income tax for under-30s to improve social mobility and family formation.
He highlights broader social strains: loneliness, declining community ties post-COVID, mental-health challenges among young people, and the corrosive effects of social media and cancellation culture. Immigration pressures and global inequality, he argues, reflect a world where people seek Western living standards; exporting strong institutions may be more sustainable than mass migration.
Carr frames this period as historically cyclical - a restructuring phase where collapsing systems create opportunities for renewal. Despite risks, he remains optimistic that open conversation, comedy, and community connection can help society navigate rapid change.
    Key themes:
Decline of trust in traditional elites and institutions
    Political convergence and potential disruption
Economic barriers and youth opportunity crisis
Loneliness, mental health, and social fragmentation
Immigration, global inequality, and institutional export
Cultural renewal through dialogue, comedy, and community

All these problems, social isolation, overburdened taxes, political correctness, etc. are connected. Have young people feel less isolated, less downtrodden, and be less burdened by the pensions and social security bills for their parents, and they'll go out more, be more productive, have more children, necessary to keep a society running.

Exactly what I have been banging on about, bigging up the UK!!! We are one of the most influential cultures in history. Many modern nations are founded by UK and The English language and strong cultural exports still dominate dominate the world today. It's just that now, with old Imperial Preference system being a thing of the past and with the rise of Asia and our Anglo-sphere cousins across the world have moved on and making serious dosh trading with Asia, we on little, old GB and NI need to find a new place in the World and that should be taking a serious lead in Europe again not putting up barriers like we have been over the last 10 years or so.

Pretty much the idea is to tax between 30-60. Will they create new taxes to make up for that lost income? New asset tax? Do you get taxed on ANYTHING? Loopholes galore here 😆 but I like the idea. Also imagine working for 30 years and being taxed at 50-75% 😆 would be interesting to see what happens. Unless your ok with lower services. Also, isn't your Healthcare part of your taxes? How does that get filled?

14:57 independent and purpose. that's what the current government has taken away from you, either by luring you with benefit or taxing you so heavily that workjng hard is purposeless.

"People think they are individuals, but I think we have a dispersed identity" first thing came to my mind is how different I am around certain people and this rang so true to me. Thanks J Carr

Already happened. The serious people are ridiculed for being serious, and talk TV hosts with unfinished communication degrees walk the halls of parliament.

People are individuals even if those indviduals change around other individuals, statistics and generalization cannot be used to study any specific individual in the same way there is no "average" person, there are median people but the average is a statistical concept that does not represent an individual data point

What people miss when they act surprised that politicians create policies which are so misaligned with the betterment of the country, is that politicians aren't there to serve the needs of the average person. They are there to LOOK as if that's what they're doing...we pay taxes ultimately to keep the private, fiat, central bank enabled financial system afloat. We have outsourced the money creation process to the private sector where we have to pay interest for the luxury of these same institutions creating money out of thin air...This means there can never be enough money in the system to pay outstanding liabilities in full without the continual issuance of more debt. Runaway inflation and debt spiral ensues which is where we are currently.
This system is designed to concentrate wealth into a smaller and smaller pool of institutions and people over time, all the while drawing that wealth from a larger and larger pool of people who must work harder and harder for less and less. THAT IS THE FORMULA. THAT IS WHAT'S HAPPENING. No amount of tax policy can prevent this process if you continue to operate in that same system. Until you leave the system entirely, it's all sweeping leaves on a windy day - you still get the same result.

More conversations like this need to be had there’s no point having James O’Brien whining on about how his views are correct and everyone else is wrong m, we just need to figure a path for everyone going forward. Well done lbc

James is a complete muppet. In his mind, he's right 100% of the time, and any thought outside of his bubble equates to you being some extremist.

That tax idea is a brilliant. The current way we are taxing people IS NOT WORKING. Lets change it

The problem with his thoughts on tax is they are completely contradictory. You arent going to be able to pay for no tax on the over 60s without taxing the 20 somethings, why 60+ year old have huge benefit entitlements that need to be paid for.

More sense spoken in 20 minutes than I’ve heard the vast majority of politicians say in 50 years.
