Crystal pure and magic melodies they are - these gems of folk creation, chosen by pianist Andrej Polevikov for his project “Ethnic Mood”. In fact, Andrej is Russian, born in Lithuania, and his connection to Lithuanian folk music is in a way more conscious than of “pure-blood” natives. He touched and studied every song, found a key to each of them, and a special voice as well. Four female vocalists involved in the whole project, here you may hear one of them - the beautiful clear sound of Vytautė Pupšytė performing a song about a bird, trying to survive in a field of farmers...
Andrej Polevikov recalls the creative process being a challenge, despite he is quite an experienced arranger. He is active on jazz stage for two decades now and in recent years made loads of vocal arrangements, but it was all about classic jazz repertoire, original music or stylizing non-jazz songs in jazz manner. In this case, having such a delicate and special material, he refused using familiar techniques, quietly went out of his comfort zone and created this miraculous moment.
