I’m trying to remember if I saw saw the blues busters at the flamingo ( wardour street London) , I saw them I’m sure but we saw so many brilliant performers then. Great music great clubs everywhere, and we looked good to add icing to the cake.now I’m 75 and ska still makes me want to dance 😎
Seeing Jimmy Cliff sing "King of Kings" is like watching a force of nature. He is raw, wild, brash, razor-sharp.....a virtuoso on stage and he knows it. The four videos uploaded in this series alone could be the basis for a college course on the evolution of music in Jamaica. To jw31209: THANK YOU!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! They are dancing HARRRRD and having a Blast! But... way back in my day I was a cool, chilled dancer. I didn't want to get hot & sweaty! This is a workout.
Thanks for exposing this joyous documentation of the heart of this great Ska music. Well paced upward but I wouldn't have guessed The Blues Busters to have been one of the headlining acts but it was apt that they were. Great!
jw31209, you are a peach & a prince among men... and women. TY! 0:04 I Don't Know The Blues Busters 3:18 Sammy Dead-O Byron Lee & The Dragonaires 5:44 King of Kings Jimmy Cliff
Last part of This Is Ska (1964) The Blues Busters are a very famous duo in Jamaica, and much loved by all because of their wonderful singing. Sometimes referred to as the Jamaican Sam and Dave (their voices are quite similar) they cut almost 70 singles, mostly in the ska era. The Blues Busters are Lloyd Campbell and Phillip James. Can't find a listing for I Don't Know so can't be sure it ever was a single. Next up the house band, Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, take a stab at Sammy Dead-O which we saw "Monty" Morris previously sing. And finally Jimmy Cliff returns for King Of Kings, a single he cut for Beverley's label in 1963. Hope you enjoyed the film. This is the REAL DEAL, first generation ska in Jamaica. This music went on to have much greater commercial success when a new generation of kids in England embraced the beat with a youthful exuberance and the 2 Tone groups emerged. Many bands the world over still play boss ska today.
Hi! jw31209. How are you? I like this video lot. I like Jamaica SKA lot, I was listen SKA since I was teenager in 80s - 90s, I came Mod listen to SKA. I am still Mod.
I would sure love to know where all these dancers are now. They are even older than I am. I was only 17 years old when this program was produced. But already dead dread for da ska (and later the reggae).
