I know your just as inquisitive, you wont be able to let it go either as to why and how they ended up in the creek. Im so looking forward to the history you uncover on this one. Try putting one in white vinegar or sulphured molasses and water if you find more. It will remove the rust and leave the rest (it does look cool tho). You might get a near whole sign out of it. Dont agitate much and obviously handle/rinse carefully. I like matte finish (sometimes) as it has less glare and allows you to see colors better. Workable artist fixative spray for charcoal drawings is good for preserving delicate surfaces too.

Artists in pastels use something called fixative in a spray can. I've lately worked with a one of a kind about 2x7' foot painted tin sign "Aala Market Ltd." Then there is a hand pointing. This is double sided, and framed in wood 1x4 slat. It was outside, under an awning for many years 1934 to '70s?, and shows it's age. The location of the downtown Kalihi general store is now a park. A present business using the same name, wholesale meats has no interest in it. I called. That auto clear coat sounds like the best solution for that. Dug bottles with discernable labels are sometimes sprayed.

I mentioned this under an older video (just found your channel), but even broke off bottle necks & smaller round med bottles (approximately the size of the old Coraciden bottles) smooth of course, can be another revenue stream. My point being, both items I've mentioned can be turned into guitar slides. They are much coveted by guitarists(me being 1 myself). Check the price of glass/bottle neck/coraciden bottle guitar slides. They aren't cheap. Plus you can add the Deep South moniker (we eat that kind of stuff up😉) to your slides. Of course the bottle necks must be polished as with turning broken bottles into glasses. I know how to do it, but haven't done so since I was kid, plus I don't have the equipment any more. I fix guitars now. But you get my drift. Check out the prices of "authentic bottle neck slides" on the internet. Had a brown glass med bottle, from a trip to the base dispensary while I was in the Navy, loved it, it was perfect, but I left it in San Diego when I got out 1977. I recently bought a brass "bottle neck" slide, it was $13+, it was the cheapest I could find, but glass is the most preferred. I looked for your email address but it wasn't listed. Any way, I just thought about it this afternoon, watching 1 of your videos, while attempting find 1 of my slides. Hope I'm not being too forward, in suggesting this. The bottles similar to the blue poison & other med bottles are the type. You're a fairly big guy so if you can put your pinky, ring finger or middle finger in the bottle, that's perfect. They should be just about 2" long (a little longer won't hurt), & about the same for a bottle neck. Some guys prefer bottle necks as they're curved & fit the radius of a guitar neck. Let me know what you think after checking the prices they're asking. Of course those won't be "antique, Deep South bottle/bottle neck" slides. Btw I'm an older guy, used to live in Meridian Mississippi back in 1980. Been playing guitar for 50+ yrs. Hope it sounds like a good idea. I'm sure you could get just as much for a bottle neck slide, as you do for your least expensive glasses. Any way, I've droned on long enough. Blessings.

Hi there. On your snails: They are molluscs, yes. They are on the bottom during the winter so they can rasp whatever algae or other debris they can find off of the rocks. During the warm months, they do the same to the grass... as the grass is on top getting all the sun access, so that is where the algae grows. This is indeed freshwater biology, if it were marine bio, that would mean salt water. Fun fact, Alabama is one of the most diverse habitats in the US for freshwater life. We have more fish, turtles, crayfish, snakes, molluscs etc by species than any other state. Lots of the snails you see are either considered threatened or more because Alabama is the only place you find them. We used to find muskrat middens of freshwater muscles all the time on the sipsey (freshwater muscles: Also molluscs, but in the class: Bivalvia (two valves, or shells generally speaking) that were -federally- endangered. Just picking them up would be a felony, lol.
