Haha same boat. Thankfully, I have some experience because I worked at a school district. I've only done a handful of these so I'm still a bit rusty on them
My only critique is cleaning the boss face. 3M has a gasket remover that I use. (plastic finger wire core) will not remove any material that is not needed to be removed. Looks like you are useing flap disc abrasion. Causes low spots for lube to leak out at prior to full lubrication. I used to do it that way in the early day's but found that the less material removed the better the lube dispersion. Still awesome video. I still look at what is being put out to learn something new or add my 2 cent's. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing. I was able to name lots of parts thanks to the fact that I had to study for my pre trip in order to pass my exam. While studying I made the commitment to understand which part I was touching and the name because I wanted to learn to remember, not just to pass my exam....still lots to learn though.
The only reason I would tear it down that far would be to use the press on the bushings, I pull the front tires and brake drums off and that's it, set a big block of wood next to the axel to set the knuckle on and hammer the bushing in and out with a big hammer, if it all goes good I can do the whole job in just over two hours
I didn’t too until I saw a life long mechanic have serious health issues from ingesting toxic chemicals thru the skin that the body wasn’t able to discard. Double bad if you used/use old school paints. One fellow had to quit as anymore ingestion even fumes was going to put him over the edge and kill him. Stay safe.
Great job and good video. Looks like this was not your first rodeo, LOL I did notice the thread lock ring / clamp at the end of the tie rod was loose, hope you tightened it.
@@cargotoolshop5319 yeah way back when I was an apprentice I did that for a while with sockets or 🔩Bolts, spacers and washers but it wasn't precise like using the correct drift tool for installing
Ok awesome I will have to get one. Thank you for the response. Good vids. I also like the hammer you use on the king pins. Also the two drivers you use to remove and install the king pin bushings. Ty for sharing.
A normal price is thousand dollars plus parts, $300-$500 for pin kit, $30 each wheel seal, $30 each tie rod end, brakes shoes and drums are $325, quart of gear lube, I would do it for a grand with parts in my shop and probably make $350 after buying parts, but that's okay money for one days work, some days I don't make that much driving my truck after putting fuel in it
We have two trucks we bought brand new, 2007 just did the pins and the came out with a pipe on the jack pushing them up, really easy, but I have had truck where I do the same thing but had to heat the axel red hot on the end and then beat it down with a sludge hammer with a solid shaft between the pin and the ground with the weight of the truck pushing up on it, stay strong, remember fingers don't grow back
Oil filled hubs, adjustable wheel bearings, brake shoes, king pin bushes and axle cotters are so yesterday. Obviously you like downtime and spending money. Good luck with that one.
Downtime where you can simply go to any store and buy the parts where as the systems you imply cost triple, are special order and need special tools to do? I'll take my 1 hour downtime over 3 days waiting for parts
Man all the time wasted taking the wheel and hub and breaks and backing plate off. Not to mention risking toe rod damage. Could have had the king pins done.

Great Video easy to follow, no talking, straight to the point, and great visual
That was a really good video, it was easy to see everything you were without having to listen to anything. That was cool.
Never seen a set of kingpins come apart that easy in my life,I've done hundreds of sets
Same.
Hey guys what’s the average price on a set of kingpins and how much on average to replace them??

You really care about your job and keep learning
We always used the pins that required the bushings to be reemed to size. they seemed like they lasted longer then the quick type.
That's how ya DOIT good job buddy 👏 👍
Nice job dude no complaints here
This is a fantastic video, thank you.

I used a vise grip for their spring
What tool did you use to drive the king in bushing? Part #? Thanks!!
What tool did you use to drive the new bushings in? Got a part number? Or homemade?
Those spring pliers look nifty where can a guy find those
What is the tool called, that you are using to remove the bushings?
What is the part number or what is the name of the tool you use to put the kingpin bushings?
Great video just where is the torque wrench?
Great job 👍
Thanks for watching!!
How many type of bushing drivers do you use?
Nice job, ashame speaker on my phone quit... Lol.

Fantastic!
Where is your shop located? I need this and rear spring eye bushing’s done.
Kick butt video !

To prevent thread damage

Never use a sanding wheel only a wire wheel. Sanding wheel creates more slop. Other than that great vid.
Excellent
How long does it take to do this ?
