Your perseverance paid in spades . Making a check valve tool from a flat head screwdriver takes awhile , but doable . The hot vinegar is interesting . Making steel swell while hot and shrinking while cooling + the acetic acid is a way cool idea . Priming trough - Most folks use "spirits" / alcohol to warm up . I use my own fire paste which is easy to ignite and it turns to fine ashes after a stove or lantern lights . Made from nothing but Styrofoam and gasoline (in a small Glass only jar) and easy to take a small amount for warming fuel . Have a great week and all the best .
Thanks Lefty , honestly I was totally freestyleing, I later use lighter fluid and it worked great I have a ton on Zippo fluid, it seemed to do real well
So the head of that valve down there was brass and like a bolt head with only 2 sides , I was afraid to try making something, I will try yo find the tool to keep with this lantern.
A great video with some innovative method to clean the check valve. Glad it worked. I have the same model lantern that I’m going to try and get going. Would the nickel plated tank originally have been polished to a similar shine as the chrome chimney?
Im not sure is your tank dull ? Mine had a shiny finish already ,it look very little effort to clean up. Thanks for noticing this method it really works in a pinch , will you post your light up ??? That would be awesome 👌
Wow! You are so lucky. Been watching for one of these for a few years now. I have four Optimus stoves in my collection but have never even seen the lantern in person yet. Great job on the valve. I couldn't help but chuckle when you fired it up without enough preheat. Been there and done that. The kerosene takes much more preheat to vaporize the kerosene. I usually preheat with denatured alcohol. Great video my friend. God bless. Be sure to check out my wood carving video I just uploaded.
Fantastic video, i just got the excact same lantern in very good condition. I live in Greece Europe, could you possibly know somewhere to order the glass and a gasket kit for this? Thank you in advance.
Thank you very much , that was allot of work , unfortunately I don't know where to buy parts for this lantern , that valve tool would have sure been nice , thank you for comming by , please come back !
@@doinsngoins Thank you for your reply. I dont know yet. I just dismantled it and put everything back clean. I will try to find a glass that fits and i will tell you the results!!!!
