    Interesting fact about Operation Babylift: some of the babies weren't orphaned at all. Their parents put them on the planes so they wouldn't be caught in the war and traumatized or killed, but intended on leaving Vietnam themselves and reuniting with their children in America (some of these said kids were already in the orphanages because their parents couldn't feed them properly, but they still went back and visited them regularly). The kids flown from there were adopted out to awaiting families, but without their birth parents permission or knowledge. One judge even threw out the class action lawsuit, and declared them all to be separate cases, and told the attorneys working in the cases that they couldn't contact the birth families and tell them where their children were. And out of all of those kids, only 12 were eventually reunited with their biological families, and that's after years of custody battles with the adoptive parents. And the birth parents had to find their kids on their own if they wanted to reunite with them, and there was barely any (if any at all) paperwork to help them. So some never found their kids, and most of the kids never found their biological families when they started looking later in life. It's sad if you really think about it.

    I find it extraordinary that this video is explaining to viewers that Winnie the Pooh actually had a life before Walt Disney.
    Right across the rest of the World, even in places where children are not taught English, the four "Christopher Robin books" are among the best-loved and most renowned works of children's literature. If you have never read these books, or had them read to you; if you are one of those people who only know "Winnie the Pooh" from the Walt Disney versions, then you have missed out on a very important part of life, something that unites people across the globe.
    Yes there was a boy called Christopher Robin, a teddy bear called Pooh, a little toy called Piglet and a toy donkey called Eeyore. Christopher's father, the playwright and novelist A.A. Milne wrote a series of stories for his son, back in the 1920s.
    When you find these books and look at the charming illustrations, do not assume that the little character with bobbed hair and a checked smock over his trousers is a girl. His clothes are typical of boy's wear in the 1920s.

    The Winnie the Pooh one has more of a story behind it:
    While it was WW1, a Canadian soldier went to Britain and got to take his pet bear with him, 'Winniepeg', and Winniepeg soon became a great attraction and everyone loved him. Then, a little boy called Christopher Robin saw the bear and named his own little teddy bear after him. Christopher Robin's father then wrote stories about Winnie the Pooh. :)

    The KKK didn't want harm to come to blacks indiscriminately, they wanted segregation back, a policy which worked in the past and worked well in South Africa which prospered when the races were segregated. Since the end of apartheid South Africa has become a dystopian nightmare and the US is rapidly heading that way too.

    Winnie was actually a real bear at a zoo in Winnipeg that the author's son Christopher Robin visited and loved, and that's what brought about the winnie the pooh series as opposed to some stuffed animals.

    OMG Pooh was the name the soldier's son named the bear that had been a mascot to a British company after he was placed in a zoo. The soldier was the author from Winnipeg, thus Winnie the Pooh. He 1st wrote the stories for his son Christopher. You seem so professional.

    To be honest, none of these videos "left me speechless": some are interesting, yes, but none is particularly astounding - especially because many of them refer to events of which I was already generally aware, although I may not have seen them illustrated in photos, which was, as I say, interesting.
    What *DID* amaze me, though, is the notion that we have become a society *SO* frighteningly ignorant that (well, according to this video's narrator, anyway?) most people are unaware of the (I thought?) *VERY* well-known facts that (a) Disney's "Winnie-the-Pooh" was heavily based upon a series of books, and also (b) that the various "Winnie-the-Pooh" books (they have different names, of course - I'm using it as a catch-all term) were inspired by A.A. Milne's real-life son, Christopher, and his real-life toys - and, indeed, were largely written for Christopher Robin. What next: are people nowadays unaware, for example, that Disney's equally popular and famous "Jungle Book" film was based upon the (actually far more famous) Jungle Books written by Rudyard Kipling? Does nobody *READ* classic literature any more?
    Now *THAT* level of ignorance really *IS* shocking... :(

    • @standingwave73
      @standingwave73 8 лет назад

      +Nell Smith What I find shockingly ignorant is people who don't know why there are 60 seconds in a minute or 60 minutes in an hour or how the days of the week and the months of the years got their names. I mean, we use these things nearly everyday and most have no clue or interest in why or how they happened. These are just some examples of things that happened in the distant past but affect us every day.
      BTW, I'll bet there are quite a few who think The Wizard of Oz was just a movie and don't know it started out as a series of books. To your credit I'll assume you do.

    people think that back in the 80's and 90's women were weak. I know its not true because in my country during a war Woman picked up guns and fought back. We didn't want to be seen as weak. I am proud to be part of my country because of this.
